@@erkjan yeah, I think so. Beefing up the instrumental track with horns like that was a really good choice, along with turning the bass up in the mix. And on the the song, the singer is more suited to the song. Not a trace of accent.

The original version, by B.J. Thomas, came out in the '70's, when I was in high school. It was the first song I ever got up the nerve to sing in karaoke. Well, sort of. When I got up to sing, there was a mix up and the Blue Swede version started playing! I'm sure you can imagine my surprise and embarrassment! It's a wonder I ever sang again!

This song was originally released by B.J. Thomas in 1968. It was then covered by Blue Suede in 1974, I think, who added the "Unga chaka", for some reason I think that "unga chaka" was sampled from another song, but I can't recall which one. Besides Guardians of the Galaxy, this song was also used in Allie McBeal, when she was being chased around by a digital dancing baby who kept dancing to the "Unga Chaka" reprise. Eventually, one of her friends said basically that it's her "inner clock" telling her to get on with life, but until then, stop running away and just dance with the baby! Which she did and it kind of brought this song back into prominence.
