Fun fact: Jeff played his guitar on his lap because he started playing very young and could not wrap his hand around the neck.

If no one else has already said it: 1. Jeff is about 22 when this is made. 2. The bass player is a young Marcus Miller. 3. Dr. John was a renowned pianist. 4. Omar Hakim is on drums. He is awesome. This is as good as it gets for a band.

Jeff Healey was blind at the age of one(from cancer), started guitar by the age of 3, had his first band at 13, playing the club/bar scene in hometown *Toronto* (he even learned to play clarinet and trumpet) Funny you should mention *Stevie Ray Vaughan.* Stevie considered Jeff a friend, and one of his favorite guitarists, after discovering Jeff in 1985.(remaining close friends till Stevies death in 1990). You should check out the video of them playing together. After multiple fights with cancer, Jeff finally lost the battle in 2008. And has been missed ever since.

Mid/late '80s, Victoria BC, a Thursday night: Me and some of the boys headed out to a local meat market / pick up bar that usually had a DJ. (🤭 Hey, I was young, well, late 20s, and horny! 😂). When we arrived, we were perplexed to discover there was a lineup, with posters advertising a live performer that week, with praises by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King. So, what the hell, we waited in line. Once we got in we sat at a table right by the dance floor, about 15 feet from a two foot raised stage. After ordering our beer, the band came out, obviously guiding a blind guy. My buddies and I kind of looked at each other quizzically. They sat him down in a chair onstage, he put the guitar on his lap, and when he started to play my world changed. It was Jeff Healey, before his first album came out: I had never heard of him, but he had my attention now. He played the cleanest, most amazing, unbelievable guitar licks I'd ever heard. He played blues, he played rock, he played Hendrix better than Hendrix, he played with his teeth, he played while literally jumping around blind like a mad man. He seemed to be having a religious experience. Despite it being a dance club, nobody danced that night. Everybody stood around, hypnotized, with their mouths agape, staring, hardly believing what we were seeing and hearing. I went back Friday and Saturday, and again every night the following week as he was doing a two week gig there. His first album came out shortly thereafter, and I sadly never got to see him again. But I still feel blessed.

Enjoyed your reaction. I remember when he was getting really big in the mid 80smy friend who was in a Montreal band was at my place and I said have you heard of this guy Jeff Healey and my friend told me he knew him and sometimes did gigs with him. Then he told he was coming to town soon and if I wanted to go meet him. Of course I said yes and not only did my date and I meet him but we were seated at his table with the band but also with a few other members of other bands. One of which was a member of Supertramp. He was a really nice guy to get to know a bit that night

I can't believe I forgot about Jeff Healey! I haven't heard him in years. He and his band were magic. I was already married when this band hit the airways. Even bought his records. Ii don't know if anyone has said this yet, but Jeff Healey was blind since childhood due to an eye cancer, which is why he played the guitar on his lap. This band was extremely popular. Then, all of a sudden, he was gone, as in passed away. Thanks for the beautiful reminder of a kick-ass band and wonderful singer.

Not sure why but he never got the props he deserved while he was living. Most people never heard of him before the movie "Road House" my favorite exchange in that movie was actually.... "Play pretty good for a blind white boy"..."yeah and I thought you'd be bigger" lol but he had a pretty big hit with "Angel Eyes". If you look him up on KZbin there are TV spots, where he played with STV. Yet I know I knew nothing about him till the movie. Loved that part were he paid tribute to Jimmy H. at the end as well as the standard blues run. This was a new on for me by him glad your patron sent that in and really thankful it didn't get blocked. Lol

Witnessing him live is an experience not to be forgotten - I still get goosebumps now and then .I asked him about his technique and he just told me to work the chords out on my lap and practice hard - and I did (Im no where near as good as he was ). Jeff Healey played his guitar with the instrument flat on his lap, resulting in what 'Guitar Player Magazine' called "astounding fluid blends and vibrato"' He blended jazz, rock and the blues. He'd strum and pick with his right hand and use his left hand flat to make the cords, like he was playing a piano, Mr. Healey had his own band for fifteen years. He also played with "Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band." Jeff Healey was a multi-talented gentleman. His legacy lives on......God Bless.

Modern Renaissance Man, this is from a TV show called Night Music or Sunday Night Music. David Sanborn (sax) was the host, and Marcus Miller (bass) was the musical director for the first season. It ran 2 seasons, 1988 to 1990. Jools Holland also hosted and has a similar show on BBC that has run since 1992. The show was eclectic in nature (similar to your reaction videos) and featured Miles Davis, Bootsy Collins and Stevie Ray Vaughan himself as guests to name a few. You play bass. You should DEFINITELY look up and study the incomparable Marcus Miller, the bassist in the video. You would enjoy! God Bless.

There’s something that I think is often overlooked about Jeff Healey playing standing up,… There’s something MISSING that makes him playing like that even more incredible,… There’s something that every other guitar player is using that he doesn’t even have on stage--and it blame Ed my mind!!! What is it you ask???,…. It’s a simple “guitar strap”!!! To consider that there’s NOTHING holding his guitar up other than him--AND he’s playing it all while holding it without the aid of a strap exponentially ups the degree of difficulty!!! SIMPLY AMAZING!!!
