It depends on the thickness. Thin PVC pipe will break. If it's thick it'll last pretty long. And besides this is an improvised weapon you only need to hit an attacker a few times.

When I made nun chucks the one time, I threaded a shoelace through the middle of the steel bars, tying a knot at the outside end, then taped it down to keep it from sliding out. In your case, you could have taped the rope down the edge of the spine before rolling them up. Just make sure the distance between the ends is as small as possible too. Too much rope/chain/shoelace makes it much harder to control

The Modern Rogue to get the rings to stay I'd rap the rings in tape over like alot of layers of tape do the whole ring and or rings to strengthen the rings with the hard hits or sauter them together or bend the clasp in to hook shapes to lock them in to one another I'd use some pliers to shape the rings.

I remember you guys doing some stuff you called prison weapons. In keeping with the theme, you could wrap the magazines around underwear elastic for each handle, tie them off on one end so they don't pull through, and tie them together at the other (unless they're long enough that you wouldn't need to) Added bonus: saves on drill bits.

instead of binder rings, you can use carabiniers. It doesn't move as freely, but it is still pretty good and won't fly off.
