I cannot comprehend how so many people who are fans of Modest Mouse hated this music video so much. It is abstract art. The beauty and genius of the music they create lay in the very same element of obscure, abstract, and metaphorical representations of the emotions and experiences of life. Sometimes these are tangible ideas that are easy to realize. Other times they are ambiguous matters that we can only know by feeling them. The video uses the same freedom of subjective interpretation that their very unique sound and endearing lyrics use. Open your mind, people, and step outside of the box of conventional aesthetic value. One of the greatest bands of all time.

@dereksutherland75817 жыл бұрын
Since I have been getting notifications about my post lately, allow me to say a few things. First of all, faceplant51, I'm not sure if you were asking me a question, making a statement, or trying to be a douche with the whole "what they tell you to believe." Your lack of punctuation and details left your message a bit hazy. Secondly, the concept of abstract expression is a very clearly defined thing, and has been for a very long time. You can use Google to research it, if you must. With that being said, the meaning of the video is up to you. That's the beauty of abstract art: the meaning of the piece is open to any and all interpretations. It is meant to inspire your imagination, and is the most subjective form of art there is. If a person can't watch something like this video and create their own meaning it could mean that they just didn't like it. On the other hand, it could indicate a very narrow mind and dull wit. I don't know which category a person may fall into, but I think I made my original post because of the amount of unimaginative hyenas putting down the video merely because it didn't spoon feed them a linear plot. You've got to stop thinking in lines and boxes - the universe is a hologram.

This Modest Mouse video is based off/a tribute to the first scene of the 1990 Japanese film called 'Dreams' (full title: Akira Kurosawa's Dreams). It is based heavily from the first dream/scene of the film; 'Sunshine Through the Rain'. I definitely would encourage a viewing of the film, if nothing else you could at least wikipedia the film and read the cursory summary of the first dream/scene. - Cheers

I feel like the whole point of this song is to show that people will say things that they don't mean. "Satellite skin" refers to artificial skin that is orbiting the person, just like a satellite is an artificial thing orbiting the planet. The "artificial skin" is the thoughts and ideas a person has stated that they don't actually agree with themselves, they just are saying things to be seen a certain way. Never really showing their true selves, so there is "nothing to even show they existed"
@modest19894 жыл бұрын
I don't think that is at all what they would interprete the meaning to be but it's nice to hear other people's thoughts about it

Mouse. Is much darker than that. It’s based on his own observations & feelings. You have a phenomenal sense behind your screen to interpret the song that way, my guess or my interpretation would be it’s about being uncomfortable in your own skin. All the vile ticks an twitches. The muscle spasms from anxiety. Etc.

Spooky Moths Considering how many great ideas were at least in part fueled by drugs I can't wholly agree with your statement. Of course, it depends on the drug. I've heard lots of horrible rambling theories fueled by cocaine. On the other hand, I've also experienced epiphanies through psychedelics. Cannabis can go both ways.

As much as I miss the The Lonesome Crowded West, Interstate 8, and The Moon and Antarctica and such, I am so happy Isaac got sober and they developed their sound in a way that kept themselves interested in creating music. While I don't think this even light the shadow of their older content, I'm glad they're still creating content.

One of the meanings?: He's saying we're not praying, were kneeling; we're not respecting, we're begging. This is probably referring to religion, as people who have a religion look to a higher god to make their decisions, and show them a path. I think Issac is saying be free to choose your own path, to fight for what you can do, and not just what they tell you to "Just like bein' my own solar system, doin' good things but they totally eclipse them". Like the houses controlling the people's lives

i don't see what people find so strange about this video. the birdhouses are critics and critical fans. the birds are works of art. in the end the boy graciously offers one to the birdhouse, who devours it. such is the nature of predators, such is the nature of critics.
