What often worries me is the attitude of Indians towards the west vis-à-vis Russia ! .... We often seem to praise Putin's Russia in the popular media almost like a fanboy and often are critical of the west especially the US which in my view is completely wrong ! .... The west especially the US are a friend of India while Russia is not as reliable of a partner that the former Soviet Union once was .... So in short India needs to recognise and indicate to the west more often that we stand with the democracies on these issues and that we uphold the democratic values and principles .... Nowadays India seems to look more in the Russia-China " camp " which often miffs the US and the west .... Also if God forbids tomorrow if there is war between China and India it is not Russia but the US which will come to our rescue if needed .... So India needs to play this carefully as increasingly we are being looked at as " anti west " which is certainly not a good image to have .... 🙏 .... 🇮🇳 ....

5 million Indians live in the US. 15'000 Indians live in Russia. The US has done far more for Indians (even if fully in its self-interest) than Russia will ever be able to remotely match. The New Delhi foreign policy establishment loves to boast the long standing defence ties since Soviet times. Half of the 872 MiGs India had purchased from Russia had been lost in accidents, at a cost of over 200 Indian lives. Check the defence minister's parliament submission from a few years ago. So please, stop hugging warlords and failed states in the name of strategic autonomy.
