Amazing tutorial series. Thank you. Followed from episode 1 to this one. just bought the MONA skin for Diva so was good to use that to follow along with. During the 22 videos, I learnt a lot about Diva and to compare how it differs with MONA skin.

Thank you Jon for this course, it was incredible! I watched your first episode, then I went to another tutorial series to understand Synths as a whole, then came back to learn Diva properly. I still have some questions about a certain knob here and there, but I think I'd like to make a different request. Could you do a sort of 'tips and tricks' video where we go through real world scenarios, trying to replicate some synth sounds? Since this whole course has been very in depth, but also very academic, I was feeling it would be nice to have your reference as to how you'd replicate some synth sounds from known producers or famous electronic songs, something like that. I've tried to stay away from getting preset packs, because I wanted to understand how to get there myself, and this course has definitely helped a lot. If you have a patreon or something would be nice to buy you a cup of coffee. Edit: I just saw you have an entire playlist of sound design tutorials haha. I guess I know what I'll be doing this holiday season.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate what you wrote! On my channel I generally split it up into two lanes, one is the academic side, going over all the parameters, sliders and what exactly they all do etc.. Then the other side is sound design where we put those techniques into practice with various different ways and such. If you come across any questions or anything is unclear to you, always feel free to reach out. You can hop onto my discord server as I'm always on there, there's also super smart guys there too who are always glad to help. I do have a Patreon, at the moment it is just set up as general support. In the future I'll be adding content to it

Hey Jon, many many thanks for this series!! I've become a proud owner of the Diva recently (black friday victim) and learned all the basics from you. Very indepth, very likeable presentation (and for us non native-speakers: very good pronounciation also!). Thanks again so much! This for Phaseplant would be awesome also btw.! 🙂 Have a nice day!

Another amazing course! Thank you for this Jon. 2 questions: 1. Are you planning on covering Omnisphere? 2. Do you own or are you interested in any hardware synths? If so, would love to hear your take on them
@jonaudio
@jonaudio 4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much!! So to answer your questions, I've definitely considered covering omnisphere, I'll probably eventually put something together but right now I don't have any concrete plans for it. As far as hardware synths go, as much fun as they are to play I'm definitely a software synth guy. I do like the system 8, I had a lot of fun programming patches for a friend on that one. But there's really only 1 hardware synth I would really like to have and that's the original polivoks. The sound that comes out of that thing is like nothing else. When the polivoks mini was released, I bought it right away. Its a really cool analog synth but it's much more limited than the original. Being able to open my laptop, plug in a midi controller and load up the sea of soft synths I've collected over the years is amazing. I can make patches on the couch, in an airplane, or in my car parked on the side of the road, and it's a fraction of the cost too. I really wanted to get an obx and when I went on their website and saw the price, I just laughed and closed my browser and never considered it again lol

Thanks you again, what tipe of soudesign you do with the quantize modulation ? (im french sorry for my english)
@jonaudio

The quantization is great for pitch related stuff. Modulate the pitch with quantization and select fifths or octaves or chords. Its a lot of fun!

could you do a tutorial on how to use the detune? In serum you can easily create a thick sound, but in Diva it just sounds out of tune even if i offset the voices by a little bit and I'm not getting a thick sound
@jonaudio
@jonaudio Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can do something like that, in the meantime give something like this a try and see how it works for you. (keep in mind that Diva by default tuned down one octave) 1. Triple VCO Panel 2. OSC 1 range = 4' Volume 100 | OSC 2 range 8' detune 0.12, Volume 74.00, OSC3 range 8' detune -0.22, volume 97.00 (All saw waves) 3. Noise set to pink, volume 23.50 4. Set stack to 2 5. In the Amplifier Pan section, select stack index and turn the pan mod knob to the right 6. run it through the UHBIE filter 7. Effect 1, use plate1 and bring the wet down to around 33 8. for the amp envelope, use the analogue and give it some release that should be a decent starting point. with diva you won't need to stack too many voices for a big sound, usually less is more in most cases. let me know how that works out for you dude!!!

@@jonaudio Thanks for the help, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'm trying to figure out how to create these thick, lush analog/retro synths. Example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJXSaIelerukhrs 2:59 Wouldn't I need a lot of detunes/voices to get that beefy sound?
@jonaudio
@jonaudio Жыл бұрын
Ooh gotcha, yeah so really for anything retro or analog, you will need some detune voices for sure, but there's a few other things to try to incorporate. Anything analog will always be unpredictability and instability, so maybe using the varience panel would help in that sort of sound, also running it different filters to see what best fits the sound you're going for. Then using the analog Amp envelope would be nice on that too. Abd a big part of that type of sound is running it though Chorus. Lots of older synths depended moreso on chorus than they did with unison, I'd suggest to run it through the chorus and trying out the different modes. Also subtle filter motion with some resonance will really tie that in together
