Modified 996 Turbo Ownership: A Tuners' Dream?

Introducing my extensively modified Porsche 996 Turbo (essentially a 600whp+ GT2 clone).
After 3 years of ownership, this car has continued to impress and live up to expectations. Here I share some ownership insights, go for a drive, and kick off an oil change in my garage.

Unpopular opinion: the only exhaust tips I like for these cars are the triangular stock ones😅😅😅 Your car sounds great! I need to get one of those pucks for my jack. I keep forgetting to get one.

haha - I think you might be onto something! I like the X50 style tips best but always liked an angled 4" style like mine... I was in a rush and didn't get them centered properly in the bumper cutout. Hope I like them more once that's fixed!

I like the wheels. I used to have a 986 turbo and now a 997 turbo. The guy I sold me 996 too jumped it to 1000 Hp and put 81K mikes on it and never had an issue or problem. Cheers

@ not sure about the rods. But I know he did a racing clutch, headers, intake, exhaust. Absolutely amazing cars. Best all round sports cars ever made imo.

Beautiful car. I have a white one as well but without the GT2 goodies. For what it's worth, Blackstone recommends taking the oil sample from the middle of the drop so you're getting neither what's on the top of the reservoir nor the bottom. Messier for sure but that's what they say. Thanks for the video. Great to see the 996 turbo finding their moment!

Candidly, it was an afterthought during this oil change so I just barely caught the last of it! I try to send them a sample every year.

@@joeychuo one of the big selling points for this car was where it came from. All mods / maintenance was handled by BBi for the last 10 years prior to my ownership! They are great people over there

Are those the Augment 19" Turbo style wheels? I have a Biarritz White/Nephrite Green 996 Turbo that I recently purchased. About to do Fabspeed X Pipe exhaust, recently chipped and intake. Those wheels look Excellent, exactly what I want.

@@hatemsgarage Eh, everybody has something to say about one parts brand or another. I've absolutely loved the exhaust and intake from them on my 991.1 Carrera S. I've also got a garage full of fun cars so none of them get more than 1000-1500 miles put on them yearly. How do you like those Augment wheels? I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of them in gunmetal. It's definitely a manual!

@@MrGOrander I am a big fan! Only complaint is that I didn't do a more aggressive offset on the front. They listed them as flush fitment... rears are perfect but the fronts leave more room than I would like. Beautiful wheels though!

I have been on your journey, and have the same, is that a cinnamon brown interior? I have probably the only one in the UK with one fitted. Now on hybrid turbos, do88 intercoolers bilstein suspension and a very empty wallet ,but about 580 bhp at the flywheel. Lapis blue

Hey man I’m also from MA. Question for you since you also have the 99 cobra. So I have an 04 mystichrome making 700whp with Custom cams, Whipple, etc…but have seriously considered letting it go for a 996 turbo. Was wondering how the two felt in terms of driving experience and which one you enjoy more.

Hey man - nice to meet a local cobra owner! Those cars are awesome and a very different type of fun. The 996TT is faster all-around (though maybe not in a straight line vs. your car); it is still very analog but refined when compared to the cobra. If you find one with the right interior options, they really are quite nice and a major upgrade from the mustang. More comfortable, far better seating position. Mods may be a more expensive, but you can still work on the car yourself. I think it is the best bang for your buck in Porsche land. If you like to roast tires and make a ton of noise, the cobra is great. If you like a spirited drive in a car you can point & shoot anywhere, the 996tt is hard to beat for the price. I love them both. Is your Mystichrome a coupe or vert?

It’s a coupe. To be honest I bought it 8 years ago basically stock and slowly built it so it would be very hard to let go of for me, but my original plan was to keep it until I could afford a gt3 because at the time you could a 996 gt3 for around 70-80k but those days are long gone. I would much rather have the NA motor but The 996 turbo is the next closest thing. I’ve also considered something older like a 964/993 Carrera. I want something raw/ analog that I can actually use on the street. I love the cobra but you can’t even dip into the throttle without risking your license lol

@@christophermacone7250 yeah I almost snagged a 996 GT3 for mid 60’s in 2018… but wasn’t ready! Regret. The N/A cars are a blast for sure but I love the turbo. It picks up license-losing speed in a blink too though. I have an ‘81 Targa that’s almost more fun sometimes because you can go full throttle everywhere!

GT2, GT3 and Turbo's all have the same Mezger Engine and same body shape give or take one hundred pound or so weight,, why pay more for any of them
