I think that crossovers and suvs have replaced minivans as the “uncool end” to a car guys journey. Minivans now are almost cool (If you get the right one) just like wagons have become cool.
@hotpinkfryingpan4 жыл бұрын
this. I hate crossovers because they've replaced a lot of cars that we enthusiasts loved, while minivans were at least their own separate entity. There was no Odyssey before this one, but there was an eclipse, a lancer, a mustang, etc.

Jake Boyden a lot of people with crossovers really should get a minivan but they don’t so they can pretend like they are still cool. The denial makes them way more uncool than a minivan used to be, especially since they are less practical, and now that there’s something to compare it to I respect minivans and their owners for their honesty.

Its important that you mentioned the whole "giving up the sports car and starting a family" thing, because I think that's a bit part of it. The "uncool" follows whatever is the poster child for giving up on being interesting (or in the case of nowadays, not caring at all to begin with). For the longest time, that mantle was taken up by the van and in some instances the SUV, but now I think that's been taken by the crossover. Its more about whatever demographic adopts them I think rather than the type of car itself.
@ItzzzBeamo4 жыл бұрын
The first car I had unlimited access to as a High School student was a 2000 Mazda MPV. Hands down best first minivan ever. It's small for a Minivan, but the space inside is infinitely useable. I had a sunroof so I was ballin 24/7. It had an extremely tight turning radius so it was the easiest car to parallel park, especially considering the rear window *was* the back of the car, so the dimensions were extremely easy to learn as a driver. Wouldn't have driven any other van.

Sienna's aren't slow for their size, since they have that 263 HP Toyota GR-series 3.4L V6 that's also found in the V6 Camry. You wouldn't think it, but they can be quicker in a straight line than many average sedans out there. Also keep in mind that in some cases the minivan took over the role of the light work truck, since a lot of companies gave up on making those. (Big truck or nothing, and the prices on those are steep now.) And the utility and room of a minivan with the rear seats removed is a bit hard to beat if it doesn't need to see any off-road use.

I honestly don't hate minivans but I hate bad minivans good ones what I love are... 2012 Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.8L V6, 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L V6, 2003 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.8L V6.

I'd take any minivan over a crossover any day. Dodge Caravan > Nissan Rogue

I'm happy everyone agrees that crossovers are the ultimate uncool car and not minivans haha

Okay but has anyone else seen bisimotos 1600HP Honda mini van? Same 1000 horse motor but with a 600 hp electric motor for the rear. Sooo like 60/40 split power wise but still wtf power

As a former modified 1st gen odyssey owner I can say it has its perks. I can also say fully loaded with kids, camping gear and the a/c on over the mountains it sucks. After that trip I sold mine. If you swap them they are pretty sweet but 140hp sucks with a lot of children.

Who prefers minivans over crossovers (SUVs), hit the like button!

I love minivans compared to SUVs or crossovers. The average minivan is often more practical than the average 3 row suv or crossover due to equal or better cabin and cargo capacity. I hate how everyone buys SUVs/crossovers and the never take it off road and justify it by saying they need the cargo space as if hatchbacks and wagons don't provide the same amount. I get it if you need something with awd or live in an area where you need a few more inches of ground clearance, but the average mom/mall crawler does not need an SUV/crossover

Got a 2015 Honda Odyssey and a 98 Vette! Best of both worlds! Got every base covered. Wouldn’t trade the mini for any SUV out there of comparable price when you’ve got kids.

Just got done watching season 3 of Ozark, and there the family drives an Odyssey that follows this featured generation. And I found gears in my head turning the other day... I could make a van like that work :)

Minivans and vans are the perfect vehicles for the pandemic. Plenty of space to social distance in vans.

I am 51 with three girls and a proud owner of the best year Odyssey, the Vtec equipped 1998! Has 230K and I swear, seems to run better than when I got it at 130K. Not modded by any means, but my girls LOVE this thing. Easy to work on, and just plain fun to drive. They do look sharp lowered and with wheels...

Just picked up white 1997 clean one owner. Added New double den w/ apple carplay tv’s, 10 inch sub JL audio, rockford amp, rss lowering springs, 17x8 xxr, tint, LED outside and inside. Just ordered a front lip and may repaint it. It’s a great van. Averaging 20 in the city and 28 hwy. Parts are getting hard to find. Would love to swap in a j series but don’t want to lose A/c. Maybe if I can save a good amount of money I can make it happen. Can’t wait to take some road trips in it. Definitely get a lot of compliments for being a van. Love it

One of the only acceptable crossovers is the crosstrek, it has its own identity and it’s unique since it’s got rallying in its blood. You can also get it in bright orange which is great. However a lot of other crossovers are a smaller version of the companies other car with nothing special.
