I love, love, LOVE to see strange builds! Particularly builds like this CR-V! If you can find a B20 CR-V with a standard trans for a decent price, cop it! There's just something so insanely cool about see what is an everyman's sh*tbox turned into something that mirrors the owners's personality, and to me, the CR-V is one of the perfect examples of a car that can fit any lifestyle, be made into something super fun, all while remaining very utilitarian.

note to those who want to buy one for the track, or just to remove some of the sway he mentions at 4:44 - upgrade rear trailing arm bushing to polyurethane - swap rack and pinion to the 97 integra. (this will shorten the amount you have to turn the wheel to steer, thus giving it a more sporty feel.) also, when lowering an rd1, the front sway bar end links will hit the lower control arms. creating a knocking sound which is extremely annoying. so i highly recommend swapping the front sway bar end links to adjustable ones, i also heated the control arm and dented in the area that the end link was hitting to get just a bit more clearance. one more thing. ebay coils are not worth your time, my springs stretched a year into owning them. i pushed those coils to the max throughout the year i owned them though.

The 1st gen RD1 CR-V's are not to be steeped on. Ive had a B17 swapped CRX for a while. But after moving to a northern state, I realized I needed a AWD to get thru winters. It took a few moths of looking, eventually found a clean 98 5speed. I know everyone is into K-series and I could have gotten a 2nd gen for what I payed for mine. But I still love the old B motors, I am thankful to Honda that we got a oem awd B series platform to source parts for awd GSR civics and awd H2B builds, 85MM pistons, 2.0 low comp blocks for boosting, B20-Vtec's swaps, ect.. Even a base crv is a fun car, GREAT in the Snow and Ice too!!!

I'm sure I wasn't the first to do it, but back in '91 I wrecked my 83 Civic with 1.5L CVCC engine (maybe 1.6... long time ago) and put that engine in an 81 Civic (previous generation and a couple hundred pounds lighter) that had an even smaller engine. That was a hell of a sleeper. When I blew the head gasket on that engine I found a 1.8 from an Accord and that thing was insane until the transmission broke 3rd gear while I was racing a Camaro. I ended up buying the transmission from an Accord and it wasn't as quick, but it was still a monster. The hardest part was figuring out all the vacuum lines, but everything was very similar.

I feel like you can abuse these crvs. When i first bought my used 2003 crv, i hit on the petal pretty good, to feel it out and my engine sounded pretty smooth. A week of driving later, i did the tune up. The oil was pitch black and my spark plugs looked like they hadn't been changed for about 20-30k miles. I was amazed at how responsive the damn thing still was and how good the engine still sounded. When i did my tune up, the difference in power was instantly noticable but as far as the sound of the engine and the performance, it felt almost the same. CRVs are freaking awesome.

I have a 2003 crv. It's only 2WD, though. :( She's only got 117k miles, bought it off a used lot for $6300. Most people tell me that was way overpriced, and I agree. Since buying it, I've had to fix numerous oil leaks, headgasket, VTC gasket, V-Tech Solenoid gasket. I had to replace the Alternator, Starter, and battery. I have a very slight high pitched, but low volume squeal when I'm moving but not while still that I can't for the life of me figure out. I replaced the oil a few times so far and since I didn't know the full history of the car, I did a transmission fluid flush and that really helped my RPM count. I need to replace all brakes and all rotors because they're all worn pretty bad. And all of this had all started to happen all at once at around 110K miles. I bought it when it had 108K miles. No idea how I got lucky enough to find that low of a mileage on an 03 crv, but I can dig it. I suppose since it hit over 100K miles, it's about that time that everything start breaking down here and there, so I've been doing my best to keep up with it because I love it. The k24 has a TEEEEERIBLE acceleration, but I'm not a racer. I just love honda. :)

Actually no it's not a simple as buy the parts and slap them on. They originally come with drums in the back on any 1st gen model you have to either make or buy a bracket for around $80 then you gotta source parts and have custom brake lines made.

This almost motivates me to fix the 97 that's been sitting in the driveway for 3 years

There's a brake set up I'm going to do that uses nsx calipers, prelude rotors, and itr pads

These come OEM with TypeR calipers & pads to match. Your contact patch would be the same, with slightly better clamping power. Check out the Acura RL Calipers & Pads. That will upgrade you to a 12.8" Rotor. Packages can be found at Fat Four Customs

The wife and I handed down our 2012 CRV to our daughter and it recently had its first mechanical problem at approximately 150,000 miles.

Interesting build, definitely unique. Those vents are from a boat for sure.

I love the CRV's especially the offroad builds! It's really cool to see something end up where it shouldn't I'm going to lift my tdi Jetta for that reason too haha
