Shaiyan Hossain my 4th gen on BC coilovers rides/ handles very well and is comfortable , I wish it was tuneable engine wise like the 5th gen. The slow 5 speed transmission was ruined because Honda detuned it on purpose. Its K24 atleast and can probably do some tuning but unsure how and the price.

I love, love, LOVE to see strange builds! Particularly builds like this CR-V! If you can find a B20 CR-V with a standard trans for a decent price, cop it! There's just something so insanely cool about see what is an everyman's sh*tbox turned into something that mirrors the owners's personality, and to me, the CR-V is one of the perfect examples of a car that can fit any lifestyle, be made into something super fun, all while remaining very utilitarian.

note to those who want to buy one for the track, or just to remove some of the sway he mentions at 4:44 - upgrade rear trailing arm bushing to polyurethane - swap rack and pinion to the 97 integra. (this will shorten the amount you have to turn the wheel to steer, thus giving it a more sporty feel.) also, when lowering an rd1, the front sway bar end links will hit the lower control arms. creating a knocking sound which is extremely annoying. so i highly recommend swapping the front sway bar end links to adjustable ones, i also heated the control arm and dented in the area that the end link was hitting to get just a bit more clearance. one more thing. ebay coils are not worth your time, my springs stretched a year into owning them. i pushed those coils to the max throughout the year i owned them though.

I have a 2001 CRV and its by far the Best car ive ever owned! (ive had some classics and more modern stuff) i tend to swap my cars every few month because i get bored and love cars lol. i bought a CRV just because it was cheap and i liked the look. The potential they have is huge! they feel well built and are reliable. currently turning mine into a camper and plan on doing some long road trips through Scotland and Europe.

The 1st gen RD1 CR-V's are not to be steeped on. Ive had a B17 swapped CRX for a while. But after moving to a northern state, I realized I needed a AWD to get thru winters. It took a few moths of looking, eventually found a clean 98 5speed. I know everyone is into K-series and I could have gotten a 2nd gen for what I payed for mine. But I still love the old B motors, I am thankful to Honda that we got a oem awd B series platform to source parts for awd GSR civics and awd H2B builds, 85MM pistons, 2.0 low comp blocks for boosting, B20-Vtec's swaps, ect.. Even a base crv is a fun car, GREAT in the Snow and Ice too!!!

I'm sure I wasn't the first to do it, but back in '91 I wrecked my 83 Civic with 1.5L CVCC engine (maybe 1.6... long time ago) and put that engine in an 81 Civic (previous generation and a couple hundred pounds lighter) that had an even smaller engine. That was a hell of a sleeper. When I blew the head gasket on that engine I found a 1.8 from an Accord and that thing was insane until the transmission broke 3rd gear while I was racing a Camaro. I ended up buying the transmission from an Accord and it wasn't as quick, but it was still a monster. The hardest part was figuring out all the vacuum lines, but everything was very similar.

Just let it out slowly you’ll get better traction on a launch and less shock on the trans

I feel like you can abuse these crvs. When i first bought my used 2003 crv, i hit on the petal pretty good, to feel it out and my engine sounded pretty smooth. A week of driving later, i did the tune up. The oil was pitch black and my spark plugs looked like they hadn't been changed for about 20-30k miles. I was amazed at how responsive the damn thing still was and how good the engine still sounded. When i did my tune up, the difference in power was instantly noticable but as far as the sound of the engine and the performance, it felt almost the same. CRVs are freaking awesome.

I have a 2003 crv. It's only 2WD, though. :( She's only got 117k miles, bought it off a used lot for $6300. Most people tell me that was way overpriced, and I agree. Since buying it, I've had to fix numerous oil leaks, headgasket, VTC gasket, V-Tech Solenoid gasket. I had to replace the Alternator, Starter, and battery. I have a very slight high pitched, but low volume squeal when I'm moving but not while still that I can't for the life of me figure out. I replaced the oil a few times so far and since I didn't know the full history of the car, I did a transmission fluid flush and that really helped my RPM count. I need to replace all brakes and all rotors because they're all worn pretty bad. And all of this had all started to happen all at once at around 110K miles. I bought it when it had 108K miles. No idea how I got lucky enough to find that low of a mileage on an 03 crv, but I can dig it. I suppose since it hit over 100K miles, it's about that time that everything start breaking down here and there, so I've been doing my best to keep up with it because I love it. The k24 has a TEEEEERIBLE acceleration, but I'm not a racer. I just love honda. :)

It's hard to argue with the reliability. I don't even like maintaining them because they are typically annoying as hell to wrench on but my daily and my wife's daily ... Hondas. Mine is creeping up on 250k miles and is in overall great shape and everything works. Bought it for $700. I make good money and I still opt for older beater Hondas for our daily drivers. The money I save on initial purchase price, tune ups, gas and not needing to do any major service ends up paying for the things I enjoy. I'll still never build a track Honda but you better believe my track toys are paid for via money I saved dailying one.

The crv is a reliable practical wagon that goes everywhere I've wanted to take it and it does it happily. picnic table out on the beach with family and dogs in tow 👍 Ohhhh yeaaah 😜 A true JDM gem 👍

10:15 It only seems that way because the CRV runs 26" tires. In reality the transmission on the B20 is one of the shortest 5 speeds honda has ever made, 2nd only to the Civic and Integra Type R 5 speed. In terms of overall reduction, the CRV's 1st gear is 15.97 which is on par with the 6 speed on the 3rd gen Fit.

4wd system is better in the wagons because it’s a viscous system and not a clutch type diff that the CRV has. less effective in the CRV compared to the wagon components

I can vouch for the fortune auto coil overs. I’ve had 2 sets on one of my evos.

Two sets... On one Evo... Does that mean you're secretly vouching for them being terrible? The fact that you had to replace them because they presumably broke somehow?
@StephenBrewer89
@StephenBrewer89 4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Nelson nope. Means I love the first set so much I upgraded to a better set. I’ve had tons of coil overs on multiple cars and those were my favorite. Edit: also, the first set I had was a set of Broadway statics with swift springs, which are built b fortune auto. when I had the Evo slammed on CCWs. Then I went wide body on 285s and went with another set geared more for inspired driving.

Didnt know they made them in manual driven a ton of automatics back when they were newish. Honda manuals are so slick it probably transforms this car. I had driven a few 1st and 2nd gen rav4s

the non vtec b series are properly for vtec conversion due to larger block and more torque. So they vtec conversion to get higher top speed with the torque from the b20b they turn it into a b20v, same with hondas that have a b18b will give it head from the b18c or a b16 type r head

Actually no it's not a simple as buy the parts and slap them on. They originally come with drums in the back on any 1st gen model you have to either make or buy a bracket for around $80 then you gotta source parts and have custom brake lines made.

These come OEM with TypeR calipers & pads to match. Your contact patch would be the same, with slightly better clamping power. Check out the Acura RL Calipers & Pads. That will upgrade you to a 12.8" Rotor. Packages can be found at Fat Four Customs
