Modified Toyan L400 big bearings front and back

Well at last this L400 Toyan engine running perfectly, many modifications to get this far, but will it last 🤔

Dennis made a much thicker copper head gasket that seemed to make a big difference. 30 thou from memory. Thank you SO much for your persistence, and all the hard work you have done. I quit the L400. Am waiting for a petrol V8 that doesn't eat crankshafts !

Well I never give up, the petrol V8 is the way to go, no rusting in the engine from the nitro 👍🏻

Nice job man! A couple notes regarding the cooling system on these mini engines: They are non-pressurized. This is good and bad. Generally, engine temperature is conveniently limited to the boiling point of the coolant. (Your pot of water on the stove cannot exceed boiling temp until the water is gone.. go ahead and take some measurements and you'll see.) This will of course mean that you will have water boiling off as the engine runs (while its hot). I see this in my NR-200 as well, the temperature of the engine stays rock solid (one cylinder does run 25-30F warmer due to poor water jacket design, but still okay) and I just slowly lose water to evaporation. The truth is you don't even NEED a radiator, if you have a large enough water tank you can run radiator-less and just top off the water every few tanks of fuel. EDIT: And yes you will have a constant stream of bubbles in the cooling system hoses, it's normal. This is all of course assuming you don't have a head gasket issue. EDIT AGAIN: I should also add... if you don't have a vent to atmosphere somewhere for the cooling system, you are running it pressurized and lose the thermal ceiling effect. You also run the risk of something blowing apart.

I have an assortment of gasket sheet fel pro sealing material parts number 3060 contains 2 difrent cork ruber sheet 1 rubber cellulose sheet and 1 ruber fiber sheet I think one of the two ruber fiber sheets could be used but I don't really know You could use tree bond crank case selant and i sugest try this one for head gasket Hardex 650F Red RTV Silicone Gasket Maker 224011 apply to both head and engine surfaces put a gasket between the two assemble loosely tighten everything after a few minutes you can also use permatex motoseal greay gasket maker but you will have difficulty disassembling afterwards but seal very well becomes very hard with very high temperatures capable of withstanding more temperatures than indicated on the tube

Hey try the os g5 gaz and glow glow plug this may work bether also this plug also burn the gasoline if wanted

Do you plan on adding that centre support for the crankshaft after all? I want to use this engine in a scale outboard rc boat engine. Having this engine in that application would basically have the engine running higher rpm most of the time.

I haven’t done the centre bearing mod yet, it may break again I dont know most of the cranks seem to break on tickover or starting 🤔

@@Blacklamass yeah thats what i was hearing too. I dont think it would be hard to make the centre bearing. The hardest part i would think is polishing the centre journal on the crankshaft so its circular all around.

@@bryantimms1469 I was going to give it a skim in the lathe, then in line bore the block, with the centre bearing block screwed in so all in line, but now I see they have learnt by there mistakes and brought a 5 bearing L400 out and I guess we been forgotten about
