Modified Volvo S60 T5 - One Take

This Volvo S60 is not an "R" model, though it appears to be one in many ways. It has a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine driving the front wheels, and lots of go-fast bits, stop quick bits, and go round corner bits. It's an oddball in every sense of the word, it goes fast, and makes all the right sounds. We love it.

And if you check out engine animations, when an inline-5 is cranking the cylinders go up and down in a perfect wave motion. In a V10 its dual offset wave patterns. Very cool. Very smooth looking.

+Drift Review The Audi Quattro was a 5 cylinder. Volvo borrowed Audi's idea, set it up as a transverse FWD configuration and made the Volvo 850 around it. This S60 has the same engine, but of course modernized. 5-cyls have the same firing order as a V10, so you get a similar sound, but it's much cheaper to produce. Hence the nickname "the poor man's V10".

Matt your GF has a V60 R-Design with Polestar tune. That is different than the actual V60 Polestar, which had more go fast bits. It also only comes in Rebel Blue, White, Silver, and Black.

+babbaslol I've never seen a V60 R-Design without the Polestar tune. All of this is besides the point. Calling that car a Polestar is wrong. Someone wouldn't want to call a WRX an STI would they. They are different cars. The real Polestar car has more power (via a different turbo and active exhaust), has a much better suspension with Ohlins, has a retuned transmission, bigger brakes, different appearance package, different interior with Alcantara, etc.

I would be interested to see your take on an S60R Matt, though as you said you have driven one before. Then again I imagine everyone else wants to see their car in a video as much as I do, and it's a bit much to expect you to do videos of two such similar cars when there's so much variety out there to chose from. What are your thoughts on the S60R compared to something like an S4? I drove a B8 S4 and liked it more than my S60R in a lot of respects, but the steering didn't seem as sharp and the engine note was much quieter and less interesting.

I love my S40 T5 AWD, these are really nice underrated cars (don't tune for big power though, just boost response and torque, the thin cylinder walls on these blocks aren't ideal for big power). My S40 is maybe putting out 320 at the crank max but it looks bone stock and is a real sleeper.

+Sepehr Naserkhaki Here in Sweden people run these engines at 700+ all the time. You insert milled steel rods inbetween the cylinder wall and the block wall. They can take upwards of 1000 engine HP but it's not really streetable at all and quite unreliable at that level.
