On this episode of KC ATV, I install Hot Cam and also port the cylinder head
on the Grizzly. I take the Grizz for a test ride and see how it performs?
As always folks thanks for watching!!

@kcatv9556

Hi Tom Yes I would buy another grizzly for sure! The reliability has been great. One Thing I would recommend is getting one with the 686 engine. Not that the 708 engine isn’t reliable or anything but there’s very little aftermarket parts available for it. The first mods I would recommend is a programmer and a pipe. Those two items will pick it up pretty good make it more responsive. Hope that helps you out and good luck when you get your Grizz! Thanks for checking out the video!

Hi, Great educational mod videos on your site for the grizzly and Kodiak. I am in the market for a new atv and I have narrowed my choice to the Grizzly or kodiak. Which one do you prefer and why? I know they have the same engine but there are some clutch, suspension differences. Thanks in advance. Also, whats your opinion of the outlander 650/ 850 and the kingquad 750? These are other atvs I am considering. I dont have the option to test drive them where I live, unfortunately.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Duane I prefer the grizzly it’s a little more sporty to ride due to the clutching has a lower ratio and the suspension has just a little bit more travel as well. But that doesn’t take anything away from the Kodiak I do like it as well it’s just not as sporty riding, that’s just my opinion. To give you advice on what to buy man that’s a tough one!.. It really depends on the type of riding you want to do? My advice is to check out dirt ObseXXion channel he has a few videos that might help you determine which quad would be the best for you. Leave a comment on one of their videos tell them I sent you if you don’t mind. LOL Hope that helps you out thanks for checking out the video very much appreciated!!!

The suspension mods I’ve done is the Elka stage 3 sharks on both of our machines. As far as the sway bar, I think folks remove it to try and make their quad ride better? @@kcatv9556 Thanks for the information, i was concerned about the stability on flat roads if it was removed. My wife gets concerned when she only has three tires on the ground and lots of folks say to remove the sway bar to allow more travel. More flexible shocks might be the safer bet.
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 3 жыл бұрын
@@mcroadscapes7107 Yes stability on flat and off camber roads and trails would suffer if the sway bar is removed. The quad would have more tilt, myself I wouldn’t like that. The only situation I would say for removing the sway bar would be for rock crawling then it might be a benefit. Now if we’re talking about Can-am, there newer machines have a front sway bar. I would say yes remove it.. Let the front wheels move independently of each other.

Hi Rich, the shocks themselves are much softer than the factory shocks. When you order them from Elka you tell them what type of riding you will be doing and they will build them to suit you. Nice Job. I am jealous. No one makes cams for the 708cc Grizzlys/Kodiaks that I know of. If I am not mistaken stock they run like 6500 Rpm. You are up to 8000 now. Awesome video buddy! Loved it! I have lots of questions as usual (always wanting to learn): As I don't know a ton about mechanics, I'm assuming the new cam has bigger lobes to allow more intake and exhaust on compression, which translates to more HP right? So, why wouldn't Yamaha (or Honda, etc) design and install a cam like that to start with? Is there a downside to this mod? . . . Did you get that cough fixed? . . . Is there a significant improvement in low end torque with this mod? If so, can we line up a date for me to bring my Honda down to KC so you can do this for me? LOL . . . 74 MPH top end? WOW! That's awesome buddy! (I can't even get 74 KPH out of my Honda) . . . Excellent stuff my friend! Thanx for sharin'! . . . PS (take your serious cap off here): Those tires were not designed for high speeds! You're lucky they didn't fly apart on you! I don't ever want to see you going that fast again or you'll be in big trouble YOUNG MAN! Do you hear me!? Are you listening to me!? Now go to your room and think about what you've done! HAHAHAHA!!!! YEEEEHAW!
@kcatv9556
@kcatv9556 3 жыл бұрын
Heyyyy Buddy! Yes the new camshaft has slightly bigger lobes to open the valves up father also the lobes will hold the valves open longer to allow more air in and out of the engine. The downside can be depending on the amount of duration the valves are open and lift you can either lose some low end torque or lose high rpm power. The downside to more cam lift, is parts were out quicker/valve springs. So the factory puts something in there that gives you the best of power and low-end torque and longevity. Did I gain low-end torque?..no if it was on a Dyno you would see the power coming in around 5000 RPM and up, anything below that there’s no improvement. The only thing to improve low end torque is the clutching.. I did work on the fuel map a little bit for the hesitation. But I haven’t ridden much since the test run though. Yeah for sure those tires are not made for highway speeds no doubt! You probably won’t see me doing that again? Oops nope maybe in the next video. LOL. Thanks for checking out the video buddy greatly appreciate it!!!!

The Coop mod 2&3 Will give you more low end and top end.. As far as cam and head work I don’t know if I’d recommend doing that unless you’re a mechanic and comfortable pulling engines apart. Hope that helps you out thanks for checking out the video!
