Interested in trying this out. My previous car was a 1998 Honda Accord. My current car is a 2008 Honda Fit. The steering on the Fit is SO much lighter, that I'm kind of afraid I might swerve harder than I'd want to, if ever something happens while I'm on the road. I wish it had selectable strength levels, like the 2nd gen Kia Soul does. I'll go through the service manual, and see if I can find out which wires I would need to add the potentiometers to, and maybe try this out some time this summer. If a test works, I'll try and find the resistances needed for normal, medium, and heavy. Then install a 3-way rocker switch with those resistors in the blank plug next to the side mirror adjuster.

Can you create a switch for electric steering to sometimes feel lighter for performance, but sometimes feel heavier like 90s cars for comfort rides?

Okay, this is incredibly handy! I have a modern 2000’s car that I want to change the steering feel/improve steering feedback. I’m gonna need to for this book, and do some more research to see of this can make my car more engaging to drive

Hi Julian. Great video thanks. Do you have a video or guide on how to lighten electric power steer? as a mobility aid? thanks Craig

I'm here hoping for an answer too...

Same here! An accessibility company wants $9k for a re engineered power steering rack- this may be fair for the work, but I'd love to try upping the assist first!

@@pm6425 Requiring TWO steering systems and a re-engineered rack when a tweak to some software would suffice is not really "fair" ;)
@pm64253 жыл бұрын
@@davey52876 I think you are armchair engineering here. this easy "tweak" you speak of has never been documented on the internet! Whoever knows how to do this can charge as much as they want. Do you have the answer, or a guide? I would love to hear it.

@@pm6425 Dude. I'm agreeing with you. Take the win. These EPS systems *are* tweakable. I know that there are two different steering profiles for my Toyota XLE version and the Touring version. It's just a configuration issue. Many cars today have selectable configurations in their user settings. It's not armchair engineering to point out that NMEDA requires an unnecessary backup system for each RE steering modification in all situations and seems like a money grab IMO. And BTW, I am an engineer. Just because I don't have the answers for a power steering system doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Jeez.

Hi in your video the pots you don't say the Resistance of the pots. ?
@kashonder2 ай бұрын
Try first with 10KOhms if doesn,t work good next try with 100KOhms. But you must be sure that use the correct pins on the diagram.

I have a 2019 Kia Sorento K3 . The steering is harder to turn than my Tucson i had before. has anyone can help me with a 😇 diagram on how to do the modification to make the steering lighter

Can you use two equal resistors instead of the first pot. If so what would the resistance have to be equal to?

How would you make an electric power assist that is made for a car to be used in a 3wheel motorcycle like the can am spyder?
@Dani-it5sy3 жыл бұрын
Interesting video 👍 thanks ☺️ But I was actually thinking how to make my power steering more powerful. But maybe I am thinking wrong and this is actually the solution. You know my problem is.. on a Hyundai i40. Just cruising on motorway.. if I want to do a minor correction I have to put quite some force on the steering wheel before it actually starts moving. And than if it moves it easily over corrects a bit. Very irritating. Now I can see how this solution could help prevent the over correcting. But what I want is that I don't have to give so much input in the first place. Therefore my thought was to find a way to boost the power steering. Am I thinking wrong here ?

The manufacturers are working on your favor. The people who have the like for road feel are the ones screwd.

I have a Corolla Altis E170 which has heavy power steering especially at parking speeds. Spoke to Toyota India and our dealership they bluntly resfused any mods. Spoke to some car modifiers even they refused. 😞 can i expect some help?

This guy keeps saying "It's easy" but I don't have a clue what he's taking about. I just don't want my power steering assist to be so heavy. I want maximum power steering when I'm driving slower than 110 MPH.
