Great Mods !I picked one of these a few years ago as my first haversack and I was not disappointed ! I did change up the shoulder strap and ran a strap from one inside flap to the other with a snap. Stay safe !

I just got mine in the mail last week and my fiancé liked it so much that I purchased her one as well. Love the mods.

I have sewn some gear, and find it much easier to use a small pair of needle nose pliers to push the needle. Also doesn't hurt to wax it a little bit. Great channel btw.

Nice job! I applaud you, doing it yourself. I have a sister that helps me with that sort of thing. Sometimes a little modification makes the difference.

Love the mods. May do the same when I get my bag. It looks like you didn't melt the ends of the strap material you use, melting the ends helps to keep it from fraying. I like the leather strap idea; looks like it stays in place unlike some tube style ones that keep sliding around when you don't want it to.

I ordered this bag based on your video. WOW what a deal I went back to the site and picked up a US. Medic bag, same price, different material but also a deal.

A good way to neaten up nylon webbing or cord is to measure the length you want beforehand, then fuse the edges before sewing. Harbor Freight sells a woodburning/soldering kit for around $9 USD that includes a fusing blade. It's very handy when working with paracord.

On a side note sewing for sailors was an important skill back in the days of sails. The ditty bag and sea bag being two items often made by sailors and apprentice sailmakers to demonstrate or practice sewing skills. Using a sailmakers sewing palm and waxing the thread as well as the stitches they used may help with sewing heavier material. Many leathercrafters use sewing palms also.

I do simple leather craft and use the sewing palm it does help. A slightly smaller and curved needle works better yet. Try a small curved upholstery needle, just a suggestion.

A+ on the sewing. I Flunked that class in High School.

The only drawback to some modifications is that you soon have a bag that can hold a lot of stuff and becomes uncomfortable as a shoulder bag. IMO a shoulder bag is only good for 5-6 lbs max if you are going to carry it all day.

Yet another great vid! Any idea where he found the kevlar thread? I Like the mods, they will make the surplus bag even more bushcraft friendly and add value to the econonomics of the bag. Thanks
@carlb4016 жыл бұрын
A bit late, but here in the uk you can get kevlar thread on ebay. I got 3 reels from a seller that sells fishing gear, so a local fishing shop might sell it.
