Love the discussion. I felt like some of this talk about module engines could have overlapped with blueprints and crafting your ships.

Cutlass was supposed to be modular as well, not separate hulls. But something modularity could possibly open up as well is actual escape pods and rescue gameplay.

General rule for modularity: the bigger the ship, the more likely it is modular.

My biggest hope for modularity is that this is the thing that lets us finally get working escape pods. I know, not the most exciting possibility for the tech, but it affects so many ships and I've wanted it ever since we got soft death.

Phoenix was also meant to be modular, with alternative options to luxury. Recalling it was over 50% more expensive than the base connie, its better power plant, improved armor, point defense turret, and modularity really should turn up at some point, although many people from back then CCU'd it into something else, like a Carrack or Hull D. As for CIG making bank of modules rather than selling a new hull, they already started doing that a few years back with the Idris K kit. You want an Idris M? No no, we sold those for $1k, here you can pay %50 more for the Idris P, and oh you still want an M? Here, have a big gun for $250! So yeah, the K kit is technically modularity as well, and really should be in prior to the Idris going live with Sq 42.

01:28:05 Got to admit, HCVertigo's take here isn't a "Hot Take", it's a _Garbage Take._ Jared and other CIG people telling you how it is _now_ and what they're doing _now_ and what they're planning _now_ does not mean they're lying when it changes, and Jared saying "the only constant is change" is not an admission of guilt.

Relative to modules I didn't really hear you guys talk about the idea: 1. Modules are likely interior changes to a shared hull 2. Therefore consider something simple, a cutlass module for a bomb bay, it could be done but wouldn't be as good as a custom hull for bombing. A bomber would have different armor, different shields. So variants would still be a thing. But modules would be the cheap way of upgrading. It's a more generic, low cost, but not as specialized and therefore not as capable as a purpose built ship. This gives options for all players. Adding a mining laser to a cutlass and converting the cargo to the material hold might be an option vs a dedicated miner, but since the material bags aren't external will require slower unloading, less capacity. Therefore lower profits, etc. You guys might have eluded to the idea but didn't really call it out, at least not that I heard. But great cast, I always enjoy the content.

I am slightly concerned there will be colliding ways of thinking when it comes to modularity and variance in how ships will designed moving forward, especially when considering how variance in same-hull capability has been handled traditionally. Look at the Avenger series as an example. You have 4 separate ships: Stalker (prison cells), Titan (cargo space), Titan Renegade ("improved combat package"), and Warlock (EMP). At its core, these ships are all the same fundamental hull, but have varying "modules" to suit different purposes. If you wanted to have access to all 4 variants, you essentially own 4 separate ships. Compare that with the plans for modular design as we know it today, you have one ship featuring swappable sections of the layout, but a majority of the hull and outfitting remains unchanged and intact. You don't need to own a separate hull for each module of the Galaxy, for example. Perhaps as a later phase of modularity rolling into the game, these more-legacy offerings like the Aegis Avenger can be consolidated into the system. For those who already own all the variants, you are granted a hull for each variant owned and should be able to purchase (either in game or if the MTX gods must be appeased, online) additional sets of modules if the need arises. This also allows those who own a single Avenger as a starter package to enjoy a broader range of flexibility in gameplay, especially if the modules are earnable in game. Its a lot of work to do, so I can understand if its in the Underdark of priorities.

just need the cargo modules for other ships then have all items be able to attack to the cargo areas to make makeshift rooms. then any ship in the game can section off portions of their cargo space for certain types of gameplay.

I just hope modularity doesn't become so universal and omnipresent It invalidates the specialized ships.

There being SOME degree of modularity in every ship was like the last stretch goal of the Kickstarter. But I think that's like swapping "furniture" and certain equipment and such tho, not rooms.

I'm glad Paul brought up real life sports - people forget that. People act like you can just play a sport and have fun, but you cant. You can throw a ball around easy. But if you want to play an actual game of sportsball (basketball, baseball, football), there are a bunch of rules. When you learn that football is a ratio of 1:10 playing vs setting up, you will realize real fast that football kinda sucks.

Modularity, the mega huge most awsome thing to happen to ships that has not actually happened and isnt. Wow. Lots of hype for what isn't. But wow greatest thing to happen to ships. Or is it just consept ships that have it? As consept ships are not accessable kind of like modularity. But WOW! Modularity? Maybe in another ten years.

Endeaver...will most likely not see its full release until a year, two years, after release of game. See now if you want to upset the people this is what you say! The reason why the Endeavor will not be released soon to play is the game mechanics, all of it is un to nondeveloped gameplay. Crew Quarters, Bio-dome (please be for animals too!), FUEL, Research, Data, Over Clocking, Telescope. The only items current are the landing bay, and hospital and even that is partial. Release yes, but its uses. Now for the why after release, Telescope, Research and Data can be expansive. Huh...almost make it sound like the Endeavor is a spy ship. It's easy to sell modularity when it is for things that aren't in game yet. More module combat based ships would devastate the bottom line. So we will probably get less of that. Unless its a one shot superwep maybe... God I want my endeavor to get a particle gun, the supercollider..black holes...near-stellar corona shields! Mark 2 - The Bottom Line: I see them doing this for smaller ships. Its one thing to change a Large/Capital, that is investment. But smaller ships, changes every so often makes sense. Increase ship size by a little makes sense (unless parts get smaller). The fact that the Avenger got modules is a mishap, one that people need to yell to keep! That said, I hope they put in a system, in game, where we can pay to upgrade older ships to new type, otherwise we need a way to sell ships to other people too then. Future Modules: Ground vehicles. And modules with independent systems. Something I think CIG missed, no reason we can't have modules with back up systems or can be engineered to be backups.

KZbinrs keep skipping over the 600i in the modularity discussion, and given its popularity otherwise - especially with the rework - I assume it's that the Explorer has so much more appeal than the Touring that the modularity itself has less appeal.

I would appreciate it if you stopped spreading miss-information. At the time CIG sold the Endeavor, there was no disclaimer or information on the sale page about it being "after launch". CIG could have added that; they did not. If a thousand dollar ship from the better part of a decade ago is not in-game, and nor is its gameplay, then SC will not be at "1.0 launch" - it will still be in alpha, as the gameplay needs to be invented, tested, and implemented. Quite simply, the game will not have its basic feature set without medical working as intended, indeed the Crucible and its repair gameplay, Sen and its research gameplay, and the Genesis and its passenger gameplay are all notable ships in exactly the same state. We saw long ago an Aquila scanning a planet - and many were indeed sold - yet science is not in implementation zero yet. I don't expect fully complete and perfectly rounded out professions, but they do need to work as pitched in the ships sales, even if at some extremely basic level, for this game to be at version "1.0". They are all missing critical elements, and CIG needs to pick up the pace on gameplay for those professions.
@TheAstroPubLive
@TheAstroPubLive 2 ай бұрын
You ate right at the time of selling they didn't say it was after launch but they did say that shortly afterwards. It has been the line they have used for years as well as saying the initial launch would be limited to a few systems and not everything would be in. I think CIG calling their intial release SC 1.0 is dumb because it will clearly be a soft launch beta. Still doesn't change the fact that it has been said multiple times that their MVP is not going to be everything sold and/or promised but they also weren't going to stop developing the game. If you have an issue with that I suggest you take it up with them and not myself for simply saying what they have said for almost a decade now on the initial release of the game.
Just try to use a cool gadget 😍
