"flan-jer is correct. It comes from "flange" because originally, the effect was created by someone slowing down a real-to-real tape by putting pressure on the flange, or outer rim, of the tape real.

Remember Johnny Winter ? As great of a musician he was, he plugged straight in and used the effects of his amp and got a fantastic sound. I am guilty of chasing tone and having a lot of pedals that I do not use only to find myself glued to KZbin demos of the next best greatest pedal that a musician has to have in their arsenal.

Ayla this lesson is a classic .. just the basic facts & a nice clear demo' of the sounds ... I love that strat & your playing is so cool . Not showing off too much but inspiring for guitar players everywhere & of all ages . And yet your tone & the ease with which you play is fabulous . So classy . Often on my screen u tube will display other bits of content based on my previous likes & today we have once again " Since I've been Loving you " it says 5 years ago . It has been a real pleasure to follow your career . Big love to you & all your followers Stay safe & be kind to yourself over the Holidays Season . I hope you get what you wish for . “Flanger” with a “dzh” sound :) Historically, the very oldest way that effect was gotten was by pressing down on the flange of a running reel-to-reel tape playing back .

I really like tremolo but I don't over use. It's a pretty special treat. Definitely used chorus for Come as you are. You make a good point about the predelay on chorus being a factor. Many people missed that part of the parameters. Lol. I used analog delay at a very short delay time for close to 5 years to get the doubling effect and thicker sound. I personally don't enjoy the other pitch altering pedals for what I play. The univibe I was very close to buying but I find that combining reverb and tremolo ends up pretty close to where I end up when I start adjusting the univibe. Could be I alter it unknowingly to familiar ground.

Very nice and helpful intro, thank you! yes, it seams, that ground base of all pedals are tone-volume modulation and superposition with some delay and suppression. But it is not so easy, if we try to choose some particular pedal... In most cases of cheap pedals with the same names there would be problem to get such a nice tone, as here )))

Ayla, you do awesome presentations! This video on modulation is a perfect example. I bought a helix fx a couple years ago because I wanted to have a lot of options without breaking the bank on individual effects pedals. I started using 4 cable method recently and can hear the benefits of using this set up. I would love to hear you explain it to your internet audience, and also explain why certain effects sound better thru the front of the amp, effects location in the chain signal, etc. Keep the faith!

i`ve always played by myself, and never went into the intricacies of the pedals. overall i`ve always stayed at a very beginner's level. only now, a bit older, i'm actually diving into it, and it felt intimidating as hell, but this channel, and the way you teach specifically helps a lot. specially because i've always seen male guitarists, so it's nice to have a reference from another girl. thanks a lot!
