There is far too much rubbish on the internet for people to sift through when learning to ride, this is a life skill where corners should not be cut to save money. Cheap training very often is lacking and when you consider there are over 60 life changing accidents per day on todays busy and congested roads, the Module 2 pass is only the start of life on two wheels.

Before you make any comments - read this:
The video shows a motorcycle instructor riding a test route, followed by another instructor. There are no lifesavers carried out by the person behind with the video camera filming the test route, as it would take the camera off the lead rider and you would miss some valuable information. The two riders were in constant radio communication and made sure it was safe to complete the video to help learner riders pass their motorcycle test in the UK.

Rothy Frags ah right, yeh it’s pretty extortionate tbf. Yeh I wasn’t a fan of Mod 1 and failed it first time on the U turn. It just feels artificial doing manoeuvres in a car park like that. Best advice for it is honestly just to try and relax and not get too bothered if you fail, happens to the best of us and honestly I failed both Mod1 and Mod 2 once and that’s after 5 years of riding on a CBT lol (went over the speed limit in mod2). It’s a pain but it’s not the end of the world having to re-take them and the majority of people will fail one, good luck for you though when you get around to it

19:40 car overtaking as you're both doing 30 in a 30, while going past a junction on the right, a parked car to the left forcing the novice to move to the right, and having a vehicle opposing approaching. And it probably says "Instructor" or "Examiner" on your Hi-Viz. Some people. That car driver could do with a retest, or some other punishment.

Really refreshing to see from the instructors perspective. While the learner is doing it by the book, the instructor doesn’t do a single lifesaver or observe the two second rule because he knows all too well how unnecessary they are. You know when you need to check, there shouldn’t be a quota for how many times you should be looking behind you every ten seconds.
@callummclaine9160
@callummclaine9160 3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s not helmet cam, maybe Lifesavers are unnecessary. But a 2 second rule is great for newer riders, as it enables them to have enough time to react to stuff they never would of reacted to before.
@akrim777

When you're a learner there is a certain way you need to do things so that you're up to the 'standard'. With experience, you can adjust your riding style. Just because something is good or ok for someone advanced/experienced doesn't mean a newbie can do it safely.

7:28 we can see the instructor's head take a slight dip to the left then right then back up and then it closes the distance to the student. I think the instructor has just checked his mirrors. Also other road users will see 2 motorcycles in high visibility waistcoats. Other road users are likely to be more careful towards these two motorcycles. "Examiner" or "Instructor" in big letters. Do you think the examiner/instructor is focusing on the learner so they cannot do their own lifesaver in case they miss something by the student?

I failed my Mod 2 today at this exact route in Redditch, at minute 33:03 on the left turn. A white van was parked near the turn making it extremely difficult to see any pedestrians on the road, so when I went in, I should have stopped as there were two pedestrians prepared to cross (which didn't cross, but still I should have stopped). Extremely unlucky, that has been an instant fail, and right before getting back to the test center. Until then, 0 faults. I'll try again in two weeks but for anyone: BEWARE to pedestrians, always keep your eyes on!

Great video for a beginner. One thing I'd change is at 5:50 you tell viewers to maintain the centre of the lane using counter steering. It feels highly redundant as counter steering is the only way to steer a motorcycle (well, except for turning the bike using feet while standing and riding off-road). Counter steering applies at all speeds and to both motorcycles and bicycles. I really hope that this "only counter steer at speed" myth will go to rest soon.

Sometimes it strikes me that the lifesaver left when indicating left at a roundabout is a bit superfluous. You are not changing lane and the attention should probably be the space to the right. I suppose it depends on the roundabout as well, but my CBT instructor said always do the lifesaver where the space is. Edit: When I did my truck licence the mirror check was always left to check for things such as bicycles or motorcyles. If you are on a motorcycle, you are going to see anything joining as you go past the previous entrance so it just strikes me the lifesaver left is taking a full half second attention away from where the danger is.

@@Near2Future Funny thing about lifesavers. In advanced riding some training authorities are really keen on them and want them at all time even before you go to the toilet but some others aren't bothered as much. My older brother rode a powerful scooter for more than 20 years and commuted to work and did 18.000 mile per annum. that 360.000 miles and as he says he never ever gave a lifesaver and never suffered an accident. [ they were never ever required in the test in the 1960's ] Was he just lucky or not. Forgetting or failing to do lifesavers is one of the first things a motorcyclist fails to do once they have passed their test and many don't suffer by it.

the instructor clearly breaks the 2 second rule consistently and doesn't take lifesavers or even appear to mirror check frequently! notice how the helmet cam doesn't seem to move, and definitely doesn't take "a rearward glance" before pulling out onto new roads etc?

Lucky guy, hardly any traffic, my MOD 2 was peak lunchtime through a city, industrial estate and then onto a choka dual carriageway with a million trucks, cars, tractors, forklifts across road and vans etc. Way more easier when the traffic is calm!

Passed my Direct access in 2014 aged 40. I had somewhat of a misspent youth where motorcycles are concerned and hadn't ridden since age 19. Did all of direct access on a Fazer 600 including my CBT. After one slalom through the cones on a 125 my instructor was happy that I wasn't a novice and bunged me on a 600 where I stayed until passing Mod 2. I had a total of 4 hours of training, 1 minor on mod 1 which was for being 1kmph under the threshold on the hazard avoidance even though my speedo actually said a whisker over 30, I'd been doing it faster during training but wasn't taking chances on the actual test. Mod 2 was a clean sheet. Since passing I've only had a couple of bikes. First a rather predictable ER6f 650 twin which was probably a good choice, I ran that for 3 years then bought a brand new MT09. I kept that through a short marriage, a shorter divorce and an unreasonably long knee jerk to a virus which amounted to about 6 years total and last year I chopped that in against and took delivery of a brand new MT10. Great video. Takes me back. "Left leg down, right leg up." 😇

I took mine in 1976 and it was pretty much the same, but as it was raining he spent most of the test inside the building as I rode around the block a few times. As for the emergency stop, he stuck his hand in the air when I was at least 100 yards away.

I got my mod 2 on Friday. I really hate that I can’t speak to the examiner. What if I don’t hear his instructions clearly. On a car or hgv test you can always explain the logic behind your actions for example; I’m just going to hold back a bit as this lorry that is indicating right at the roundabout is going to take a wide swing or I have chosen the wrong lane but the road is clear behind me so I will make a lane change. On a motorcycle you just have to hope your examiner understands why you are doing what you are doing.

I agree with u. I was on my way to do my mod1 and the instructor was telling me to turn right but the driver of the vehicle at the giveaway lines on my right has pulled upto the junction looking to his right the whole time so he hasn't seen us and the instructor starts shouting for me to go but I didn't and the driver pulled out looked at us shocked not realising we are waiting and hit his breaks in a panic. If I had gone ge would have ran me over.

I'm glad I found this video, I've been arguing with people online regarding how to brake... I was taught that you should release the front brake when slowing and use the rear only, to stop front end dive and potential of tipping the bike. Others have said they just stop with the front and have never heard of such a thing. Good to know I'm not going insane...

@@FarukAskar Jesus, so by their standards people are pretty much eligible to drive on the road huh lol. No wonder there are so many fuckfests and accidents with motorcyclists in usa. On the other hand, less chance to screw up, unlike here where you also have to ride on the road for half an hour. so im kinda jealous that is half as easy lol.
@FarukAskar
@FarukAskar 5 жыл бұрын
Exalted Me yeah, I’m pretty sure people need to get their driver’s license before they are eligible for a motorcycle endorsement. Not sure what the reasoning is for not having an actual road test, MSF is the organization that regulates these things so if you want to learn more you can look into that.

I am going to try for the test but following my sons diagnosis of learning difficulties some years ago, I am utterly petrified! I now realise, at sixty, that I have just the same issues going on. I always assumed I was just a bit gormless but now I know that I have to work out left and right each time and I have difficulty retaining instructions. Sadly I don’t display any obvious overt symptoms so I sound like I am making excuses having never been formally diagnosed!😂. I could sense the instructors frustration when I did my CBT. I think I only got a pass because I agreed I probably didn’t deserve one! Wish I had done the test the first time around when it was a solo drive that if you survived then you passed!😂
