The OSM PSL routine Whenever you approach a hazard such as a junction or roundabout or traffic lights, you will cope with it by going through a routine. Most people call it the OSM PSL routine but some call it “the system”. OSM stands for O - Observation - Check the position of following traffic using your mirrors or by looking over your shoulder when it’s safe to do so. S - Signal - If necessary, signal your intention to change course or speed. Signal clearly and in good time. M - Manoeuvre - Carry out the manoeuvre - i.e. the change in speed and/or direction - if it’s safe to do so. The manoeuvre has three parts P - Position - Get into the correct position in good time. This helps other road users to see what you intend to do. S - Speed - Slow down as you approach a hazard. Never leave it too late. L - Look - Keep looking to assess all possible dangers. You need to know the traffic situation behind as well as in front.

I think it has been around 25 years or so since I took a little cbt test, I see already in this video things had improved and I hope even more so by now. I am not lying when I say my test consisted of us riding around in a car park for 10 minutes, eating and drinking cola simply chatting for 20 minutes and then a 5 minute ride around what was once a military base and so the roads were just not used little tiny ones and that was it. I just remember the risks and danger I put myself in once out on my 100cc scooter afterward and see now how important being shown and told about these dangers in a cbt is and would have helped me. Really enjoyed the video even though had no intention of watching anything to do with a cbt test today lol Good upload

2:20 : Roundabout. Painted (faded) markings on road show L1 for left turn L2 for right turn. The metal road sign shows routing for left ( 9 o'clock) and right ( 3 o'clock) only. The 12 o'clock not showing a red dead end but a short stump often indicative no option to take ahead exit unless for private access. If unfamiliar with area this would have confused me in absence of instructor explaining the bad markings & signage. The markings and signage need reporting to the council as it could be a future causation factor in a collision

Good video this. I did my CBT a fair while ago and absolutely loved it. And the stories you hear that "you are guaranteed to pass it in 1 day" are complete and utter nonsense. I am doing my mod 1 and 2 just after xmas, cannot wait. Mod1 seems like a glorified CBT in all honesty. Friend of mine attempted his mod1 about 2 weeks after doing his CBT in 2012 i think and failed it. Was told to get 6-18months worth of riding under his belt first, then re-attempt. Smashed it on 2nd go. You will never stop learning

Hi don’t know wether this account is still active but if it his how was it? Was it easy?
@swoogles40937 жыл бұрын
I'm not the original account, but I did my CBT a few months ago and have been riding since, so I think I can provide some help. I'd say the key is finding a good training centre to take it. I know it's something which is hard to do because the only way you'll find out how good it is is by turning up on the day, but trust me, you don't want to spend the whole 7-8 hours in a place you do not enjoy. Look around for reviews or see if your friends can point you somewhere. Some places offer taster sessions which gives you an hour or two on a bike to see if you like it, you can also find out what the place is like by doing this. I have not been to RJH Training as I am too far away, but I like to watch their content as I really like the way Graham teaches. I personally had a pretty bad experience when I took mine. The day started off well, and I thought my instructor personality wise was a great guy. However, I found how he taught completely incompatible with how I learn. Shouting, swearing, and spending too little time on each manoeuvre. At one point, he put me on the spot, and told me to do a u turn then and there, and if I went too wide, he would "send me home". To make the whole day even better, I had a bike which had extreme difficulty changing from first to second gear, which made the ride out a horrible event. Sorry to go off on one, but I thought I'd share my experiences. It's crucial to finding a good school/learning centre! And to finish the story, I did pass, and have since been taking it slowly, building up confidence, and am beginning to feel pretty confident and consistent in how I ride. Good luck!

@worthlessdollar16 жыл бұрын
Well spotted.
@edoardoruggeri16 жыл бұрын
Tbf I think those roadmarkings were outdated. The left-hand lane was left only, but the right-hand lane was right-only. There was nothing for straight ahead. That housing past the roundabout looks quite recent, so it's possible that that is a new road (so there was no 'straight ahead' road earlier on) and they didn't bother changing the road markings.

Just make sure you know the rules about indicating and lanes, like if you're going straight on, no indicator needed until you're past the last exit you're not taking before yours

I think they used the indicators at roundabouts is a bad habit caused by other road users…As a driver, I’ve stopped at a roundabout junction expecting the oncoming car from the right to come straight, but they turn left (no signal used)….this happens so much (people not using signals) I’ve seen more and more drivers just pull out and not take that extra second to wait and check whether the other car is coming straight or turning….so to avoid this, I’m guessing they used the ‘right’ signal to let the other driver know, please don’t pull out on me. I’ve done this myself as a car driver. Then when I reach the point where the other car is waiting I put to the left signal to show I’m exiting the roundabout. It’s definitely not what’s written (advised?) in the Highway Code, but as a driver, since I’ve started doing this, I have less other drivers try and pull out on me when I am going straight on…..the other side of the coin are people who don’t use signals …..ever! (Irrespective of what car they own/drive). I’m looking to start riding (so CBT first) and watching these videos is a stark reminder of bad habits picked up along the way as a driver!! Everyday is a school day as the saying goes.

@@RJHMotorbikeTraining I'm down in London...I popped into a local dealer near me who gave me some tips and advice about how to learn to ride and what to do as ideally I want to end up owning a Suzuki Hayabusa....quite a few friends who ride have advised against getting it as a first bike, so instead I thought I'd start with something like a Honda Grom (so 125cc I think?) do my CBT and then get used to riding and build up experience from there....I was watching these videos as I have 0 clue about whats involved in a CBT. So it really does help watching this for a non rider like me 😊
