A Canadian club pro told me he saw Norman hitting balls on the range, and Moe kept saying after each swing, 'Catching the raindrops. Catching the raindrops." What did he mean? The palms facing up, perhaps?

The way Moe’s hands were locked down into ulnar deviation through impact causes them to turn over immediately after impact. That points the toe of the club up much sooner than a conventional swing where the arms hands don’t get pulled straight and turn the toe over until well inside the target line and creates a the very steep swing plane in the finish because the toe acts like a boat rudder to steer the mass in the direction it points. Count Yogi (Harry Frankenberg) had the same steep release plane for the same reason as Moe. The way he gripped and oriented this hand at impact acted to lock the face square with hands through impact with unlar deviation but like Moe that caused the hands and toe to turn over. Hogan had similar action in his swing to keep the face square throughout impact but prevented hands and toe from turning over so fast by the way he maxed out flexion/supination in lead wrist which kept extension in the trail wrist “holding off” the turning over of the hands which would cause him to snap hook when his timing was off. After learning all three swing styles (I worked at Broad Run Golf where the pro’s taught the Graves / Norman method) I conclude that Moe and Frankenberg were golf savants who just developed their unconventional swings with observation of cause and effect when trying every possible way to swing a club. From using Five Lessons and reading books about Hogan I concluded was more of a “ducks in a row” sensing type when it came to learning I who copied a lot of his techniques from others like his caddie buddy Byron Nelson’s new dual plane swing in the 1930 and what Abe Mitchell wrote in his 1933 book “Down To Scratch” about ‘swinging into resistance. I suspect Hogan’s waggle may have been the result of seeing Count Yogi and copying parts of his swing.

No question he was a great ball striker but If you watch Moe’s swing in slomo the lean forward doesn’t occur until after impact. He is describing what he felt in his swing. Many fail to understand that.

No not even close. Wedge was 52, 9 48 8 44, 7iron was 40...late 60s..Every beginner at that time was told he should hit his 7 150..Moe Norman couldn't hit a ball 280 yds if he hit one off of a mountain on to an airport runway!! Short hitter....Everything he says happens ens in his swing is bs...It is just what he thought he did...stop this video right before impact. You will see he doesn't have the PALM UP or that he always has his left on top of his right hand!! All crap..Never happens!!!..Use your head people,if you start with the face Square to your target at address and THEN turn your palm up like he says and shows with his hand at his right leg,The clubface is pointing Straight to the freaking Sky!!! Hahaha,if you continue to swing from there you would hit the ball with the sole plate on the bottom if your driver!!! Todd Graves is a guy who knows this is bs and pedals this garbage...SAD..If you want to hit it short and be laughed at with that ridiculous fake extension arm after u swing, I suggest you also hit old wood drivers too!! 😂😂🎉😅 If you are going to look like an idiot to everyone you play with, you might as well prove you are a idiot.....😂🎉😅Run away from this lunacy and watch Martin Hall,Butch Harman,Jim Flick,or Jim McLean, who will teach you real instruction. What he is talking about has nothing to do with that elbow or that Palm it's actually a much more core move! His move that we're not seeing and understanding is his right side bend. His right shoulder gets closer to his right hip in the downswing which is what is giving him the shallowing move that we can't see. In effect that's also causing his elbow to tuck in that's also causing his palm to go up and it's also creating a tremendous amount of power. Side Bend is what most people don't do in their swing. Side Bend is the reason most people are over the top because they don't bend at all. If you bend more you're going to get more under it.
