Thank you for the perfect repair video! My 13 year-old Aberdeen was leaking at the base; we have dark granite so at first I did not notice the water, but the under cabinet told a different story. Great closeups of how the pieces are supposed to fit together, plus great commentary at each step. The handle had pretty much fused itself to the metal piece you used your punch on, had to hammer that out. Perfect to a T (aside from my having to reverse the cartridge 180 degrees so hot is hot and cold is cold :) No more leak, and I saved several hundred dollars on a plumber. Moen should use your video to replace their lousy kiddie drawings.

@@joeshomeshop Thank you you for a MOST instructional video on this Moen faucet, I'm a retired old chef and afraid I spent so much time at work I failed to learn basic home maintenance and projects. This video is so easy to understand I think I'll take a shot at it. I don't have the plastic wrench tool, live pretty far away from town, so I need to try and replace cartridge using what I have. Oh by the way, Moen is a fantastic company with the best customer service I've ever experienced. Asked how long I've had the Moen Aberdeen faucet (20 yrs), they then told me they would send anything I needed at no cost! I have Moen in every possible faucet, shower head etc. Lovde Moen. Thanks for the great video!

I got it all done with your video right on the counter where I could watch it again & again, I think I did everything correct but the handle still is loose and turns itself off. I tried to tiehgten the set screw as well as the allen screw, but just could not make them tight. I was careful applying the faucet grease not putting too much on. In one video it said 2 of the washers could be used (?) Thanks

@@glennsecola5781 I can’t picture using two of the washers, but maybe try that. If it doesn’t work, I would clean all the lubricant out and wipe down everythink with alcohol, then apply half of what you applied the first time. Lemme know how it goes…

Thanks for doing this, as I found your video quite helpful. I've had my Aberdeen faucet for nearly 19 years, and I've called Moen several times over the years under their lifetime warranty. They've sent new parts each time, completely free of charge. They've sent a new wand, a new hose & weight, a new cartridge & handle kit, and even a new handle and handle cap. Most recently was yesterday, but unfortunately they no longer have all of the parts that I need for a complete repair. To make up for it, they expressed a new 1225 cartridge and a handle hardware kit, to at least repair the leaking faucet. Since the repair kit for the spout is no longer available (it leaks at the base), at the end of this month they are going to express an entirely new faucet to replace the ol' Aberdeen. The friendly rep sent a couple emails showing various models to allow me to pick a suitable replacement. I chose the Cadia model, which is currently out-of-stock. It's not as nice as the Aberdeen, but it's hard to complain when it's free. After I switch out the faucets, I'll donate the Aberdeen to our local Habitat For Humanity. Hopefully someone benefits from the mostly repaired faucet, even if it's only for parts. EDIT (Oct 10, 2022): When I replaced the 1225 cartridge and related handle hardware, it also resolved the leak at the base of the spout. I don't understand the correlation, but the faucet is once again working like new.

Great video! Thanks! Hey, that black base on mine is not “snug” on my granite countertop and when I turn it to tighten it so that it is it just continues to turn. Also, the casing you dont think they make anymore, it too will continue to spin. Threads all look fine, not stripped. How do I get the entire unit to be snug / tight on my countertop?

Okay, I rewatched it and know what you’re talking about now. I’ll have to see if I can find mine to see how it’s supposed to be attached. I’m pretty sure it shouldn’t spin or be loose…give me a few days

@@joeshomeshop I think I got it. Went in underneath the sink and tightened a nut holding the hose to the sprayer in place. It held it all together and loosened over 18 yrs. But now my cold and hot are reversed! Have no idea how that happened or what to do about it, but at least we have a working faucet.

Can you take apart the the spout hub also? mine is leaking at the bottom where it attaches to the sink. Can't figure out how to open it up,,,,don't want to damage finish

Thanks for the video, it was great! My Moen cartridge, which I bought from Lowes Home Improvement, was already pre-lubricated. I feel like it's too lubricated as the handle does slide down sometimes. I took it all back apart and tried to remove some of the lubricant but it seems like it's inside the cartridge that's the problem. Is this normal, and after use will some of that "wear off"? Is there anything to do about it?

I wish I knew, as mine seemed to hold in the open position just fine. I’m not sure how durable the lubricant is, but it didn’t seem water soluble to me. You can try cleaning all the lubricant and just adding a tiny amount. If anyone else has ideas I’d love to hear them. Glad you found the video useful!
