Thanks for the video...your video was the only one that provided enough details to give me the clue what was going wrong with my installation. I had the "white plastic" nut/spacer upside down. This prevented me from turning the water on and off. Thanks for the video and guidance!

Hi David, Thanks, it worked really well for me. The cartridge was extremely hard to remove from the bottom sucket and your trick of spinning the cartridge before removing(since it has been there for a long while worked really well). Thanks

Oh my gosh! I am so thankful you posted this video. I was losing my religion trying to get the cartridge out. I ended up almost busting the plastic pieces on the top of the cartridge just trying to get it to budge. I kept working it, eventually using my channel locks and brute strength to get it out. Those Moen instructions are useless. Glad I videoed myself taking it apart, too! Thanks for posting.

Thanks David, super helpful and easy to follow. Made for a quick task for me. The only thing was that, weirdly, I needed to use a 7/64ths hex key to take my handle off. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I have a similar faucet and had no idea how to get that cartridge out. Luckily my Home Depot had the Moen 1225 and it came with that plastic piece that helped to turn the cartridge. Thanks again...very helpful!

I just used this video to help change the cartridge of my single handle moen faucet. Excellent video is all I need to say. Thank you. My next step is to buy the replacement parts kit as some of the parts are worn/cracked.

thank you! I wasn't even aware I could get the replacement parts from Moen for free until I watched your video. they sent good instructions with the parts, but your video was ultimately what made the process so easy.

Thanks, really helped me replace the 1225 cartridge on my 2000 purchased model 87130 Men faucet. I’ll tell you though the cartridge was a b----h to get out. But I did it with some leverage of my foot in the sink. Project DONE !!!

Another Excellent presentation! Great video work...nice and steady camera. Clear picture all the way with good lighting. Not sure I agree with loctite comment even though I like to use that product for other applications. Loctite and any water corrosion on the Allen screw will make it almost impossible to remove....been there. Other than that Great video !!

Mine - also a Monticello faucet that looks exactly like this one - is 7/64, not 3/32. Not knowing this, I couldn't get the screw out and ended up drilling it out. The replacement screw I ordered from Moen was also 7/64. So it seems there are different sizes out there.... Anyway, great video, thanks!

worth noting that if you get the hot and cold swapped, it is not necessary to turn the whole cartridge around. It is the stem, that will turn 180 degrees with the handle removed. When assembling, the flat side of the rod should be facing you, assuming that the feeder pipes are cold, right and hot, left.
@kennelson94097 жыл бұрын
Great point on not needing to remove the cartridge to switch hot and cold, just turn stem 180 degrees. To avoid messing it up in the first place, the stem has a small notch on one of the flat sides, and that notched side should face you. That will make sure the hot and cold are correct. I just replaced a 1225 cartridge last night and this is right in the instructions.

Forgot to add something - inside the piece that goes into the handle is a plastic part that, on mine and evidently many others', broke. No store carried the part but, Amazon comes to the rescue. The package you need is the Moen 100429 Single Handle Faucet Adapter Kit. My faucet is still rock solid and with new guts, will give me another 15 years - that darn plastic piece is the weak link!

David, nice video and very informative. It appears the waste water angle flows downhill towards the trap from the wall. Perhaps it only looked that way but should be looked at...

I often find that the hardest part of the job is replacing that *%(#^&@%^^* clip!!! I wish I would have come across this an hour or so before. Ours is "tight", and I did not know that it was possible to take the cartridge apart for lubing. Thanks, and say a prayer that I can get the clip in at the back (as it's already in at the front).

I have an old Moen M7300 that leaks from the back of the handle, not at the base of the faucet. When I go to the Moen site to try to find a replacement cartridge, they say there is no model number M7300. Do you know if the correct cartridge for that particular model is the 1225? I would want the brass one, not the plastic that is shown in your video.
@geppert478 жыл бұрын
for my Moen, the Moen model number should be on the left when putting the cartridge in so that the hot water is on the left.

I took the hex screw out with a 7/64 wrench. Now the top handle will simply not come off. Twisting it counter clockwise and pulling it straight up and it will not budge. I have a Moen Extensa 7560W. It's been my luck that literally everything in this house I bought (at the height of the bubble.. not germane but just saying) is proprietary or oddball. What is wrong, why is this handle being stuck?
@camkeni6 жыл бұрын
Overall, helpful. Two main concerns: loosening the cartridge with needle nose pliers was problematic and it appears Moen includes a white plastic gizmo to drop over the cartridge so it can be loosened AND your hands hide the replacement of the clip. But thanks for what you've got.

So, I replaced my cartridge and it's leaking from around the faucet. My faucet is just like the one in this video. What did I do wrong? My old cartridge was very hard to get out and I'm concerned that I damaged the faucet housing in some way, but not sure. It leaks when the water on not off.
@DavidTrebacz9 жыл бұрын
Donald Newton Sounds like the cartridge got damaged if it leaks all the time. Other option is that the faucet housing got knicked if you used something sharp to get the old cartridge out... Hope that helps?

I'm having trouble to get the phillips screw out that holds the handle transition/adapter piece on. It looks like the screw somehow got stuck with the cartridge, as I turn the screw to loosen it, it is just turning the cartridge and not coming out. Any idea of how to get the screw out? Thanks
@DavidTrebacz10 жыл бұрын
It should come out with mild pressure. It shouldn't spin right out like it did in the video. Sorry I can't help beyond that.

My set screw is extremely tight. I have a very similar if not exact Moen kitchen facuet handle. Very frustrating! Any advice?
@DavidTrebacz7 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about that. Mine wasn't corroded, but I have used either liquid wrench (amzn.to/2rXiUyw) or WD40 (amzn.to/2rXl8O6) on a corroded screw. No need to get them at Amazon links, just provided for reference. Let it sit for a few hours...then try it again. I'd also recommend loctite blue (amzn.to/2rXlvIu) when you put it back together to keep it from loosening up. It the type of loctite that is removable, but with a little force.
@r2d2arm7 жыл бұрын

Coury Walker Those cartridges should have a lifetime warranty and are used on many many models of moen faucets. You can just go to homedepot and they will give you a replacement for free. Not sure what is wrong with the pressure.
@DavidTrebacz9 жыл бұрын
Coury Walker The cartridge replaces pretty much everything on the faucet. You cant definitely get free replacements direct from Moen by calling their 800 number. That's what I did.... I give the details in the blog post. blog.trebacz.com/2014/02/moen-1225-kitchen-faucet-cartridge.html

I was able to replace the cartridge. Everything works fine (get hot and cold water) until I put on the handle. The weight of the handle causes the faucet to shut off automatically. The handle won't stay in the ON position. Did I damage a part? Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.
