I am currently a student in a cosmetology course. With so many different instructors and ways they learned to do things it's easy to become confused and possibly injury yourself. Thank you for explaining how to hold shears in a way that made sense and would reduce injury to my wrists and hands. I will be telling all of the students I know to watch this video.

Mr. Mogi your tutorials are awesome thank you for taking the time out to show the small techniques that create better skills to being a well rounded hairstylist. I really want to become a specialist in cutting and have been looking to understand my shear movements and control it seems that no one in my school takes the time to answer these questions about shears nor do the students ask so thank you so much this has been so helpful. Will you at anytime be doing a tutorial on explaining elevation it may sound trivial but no one really explains it they just show us and tell us what to do but I really just want to understand it.... Yes, anything try to study or skill everyone starts 0 to professional or hobby. If your country needs the license, you have to go school or take a test, any skill if you do fundamental or basics you do close to perfect all the times = to advance skill that many hairstylists miss understanding. Yes, or NO, your country need license, you have to do school to become a hairstylist you can study any times, I did teaching student who goes to school and takes my class when time finished school he knows the how to cut hair better than any student and better than normal hairstylist who has been ten years experience choice is yours,

Christine san congratulation you find your lifetime job. Anything you start lots of thing to do, you go to school and new semester same way, We do so many tools to use, and each one of difference way to practice to use it, If you understand, we use the finger and hand, handcraft baseness or work, If you practice hand, finger exercise you understand, If your friend play any sports, music, or make something asked how to hold tool they explain to you and show you practice, you are good times to know this now, remember any expert have lots of practice with couch, and right way, do not afraid miss take, keep going and going!

Great training method but quick advice when you pro hairdressing shears .never cut anything but hair as the blade will be affected .

Thank you your thought! Yes, most hair stylist hold scissors wrong way. In addition, move the blade wrong way, If you do both blade move same times damage the blade, if you have thin material between the blade, like news paper, if you do it right way to move the edge you don't get damage, but if you cut hair and hair has micro small dart which is store yes, you do damage the blade, your cutting the stone

I always prefer offset handle, easy to fit my finger, and open close faster, if you do haircut scissor over combs best way to have one, some haircut use the Parallel Handle, slice cut, inside the middle of hair shaft cut, long hair, I have both but primarily off set handle

Sir, Is it a disadvantage in this hair profession that my hands are short?Idk my friends say that i can't cut hair to precision and fast bcoz your fingers and thumb are short....So you can't take big section of hair and you can't wide open scissors bcoz of short thumb?.....is that true?longer hands are more suited to this profession?

+Paulius Šerelis Thank you comment. Any tool if you use to make a damage, even you just cutting the hair, never drop the scissors, see the tiny nick. Cut Newspaper. Paper is thin if you do not hold the scissors, you will damage the scissors right way, Any tool knows how to use it, especially both bride has sharp as scissors. As you know, majority hair stylist uses scissors as regular scissors. Haircut scissors: Hold the scissors, use only thumbs, Other fingers support the scissors. Both brides sharp, try to cut off the hair. Regular scissors: Grabe the scissors, Use thumbs, and another finger to open close, Both brides not keen, try to crash, break off the material when you cut paper, if you use scissors right way, you never damage the scissors bride
