Mogis, God of Slaughter is one of my all time favorite Rakdos commanders! He is built around a prison strategy, where, instead of locking your opponents out of the game and bringing it to a halt, he actually progresses the game forward, in the form of death!

Mogis is known as “group slug” where it punishes everyone. The “prison” decks you were talking about are commonly referred to as “stacks” (named after smokestack I think). Group slug is much more acceptable than Stacks because it’s like someone gluing thumb tacks to your gym’s treadmills whereas Stacks is breaking your legs, pushing you down the stairs, giving you the middle finger, and then stumbling away on their crutches to finish the game because they also broke their own legs. Plus it’s a lot more easy to break parity with things that double damage to opponents, rather than wait 6 turns to find the 2nd part of your 3 card combo.

The big thing with group slug is that everyone else can still play their decks, and they can all choose to go after you (though the smart ones will figure out if the other players are disproportionately hurt by the group slug and consequently sit back a bit).

Glad you enjoyed it! Trying to do my typical style that I do for Pauper for Commander would take hours, and I doubt anyone would want a rudimentary explanation of 100 individual cards lol. Thank you so much for that 💛🙏 I need to flatten the green screen better next time to avoid the flicker of shadows, but overall I'm proud with the outcome!

I have only really had 1 commander deck until recently (so around 7 years with only 1 deck) and it was Mogis. Over time he has evolved, and watching this video both makes me feel validated for how I built Mogis and called out for being a horrible human being by only playing Mogis for 7 years. I now own a second deck, being the Imperium Warhammer pre-con lmao.

I had a Rakdos, the Showstopper deck that followed this exact concept. I punished everyone, myself included, for performing most game actions. and by playing my Commander it was a randomized board wipe so nobody could plan around him

Very similar to a Mogis deck I play. I use Pyrohemia, in addition to Pestilence. For damage multipliers I use Wound Reflection, Fiendish Duo, and Solphim, Mayhem Dominus. I play Pox, Heartless Hidetsugu, and Fraying Omnipotence. I also like Valakut Exploration for card advantage/additional pinging. Mey initial idea was a creaturless deck, but I've ended up running a few more than I thought I would (10 creatures).

I ended up not liking the red plan with my mogis, especially the damage doublers. I found myself slowly adding other stuff like The Abyss, Nether Void, Death Cloud, and a few tutors. Kaervek the Merciless and Angrath, the Flame-Chained are still there though the chandra would probably be a tad bit better for me. Interesting take!

Great video! It's funny how people will just stall games instead of progress them. I like that it's not in the typical colors or style of a prison deck and also the has good flavor. If i were to build a similar deck, I would probably use a few tutors and one infinite combo. My reason is that it give me the ability to end a stalled game that has lasted 4 hours and counting.
@vincent-antoinesoucy1872
@vincent-antoinesoucy1872 9 ай бұрын
You probably don't need tutor and combo's to end games with a deck with that much group slugs cards. 4h games are a result of playgroups having unfocussed and unbalanced (boardwhipe instead of wincons) decks, not you needing tutors and combos.
@TheSpacersChoiceShill
@TheSpacersChoiceShill 9 ай бұрын
@@vincent-antoinesoucy1872 There seems to be a misunderstanding. I don't view a lack of tutors or infinte combos as the cause. I build these in to potentially end that situation. I invite you to look at it like this for a moment; I treat it like an Assassin's Trophy for a dangerous creature. I was being hyperbolic when I said 4h, but in my experience this still works at 2h or 3h. This may not be necessary in this deck, but due to the variety in commander I will build it in and let play testing determine if it stays.
@paperpauperplayer
@paperpauperplayer 9 ай бұрын
It's never a bad idea to have an end game button when things are dragging on too long. I personally don't play tutors because in the early game, what is stopping you from grabbing that win game combo piece? It feels unnatural to me to play the game as if I'm not able to just end it, and fetching a card that doesn't win me the game, when I can just grab the card the does win me the game lol. But I get your point! To each their own! 😊
@vincent-antoinesoucy1872
@vincent-antoinesoucy1872 9 ай бұрын
I get your point, I have a friend who play with people that have a regular playgroupe with no wincon, alot of board whipe and removal with game that drag for hours, and he kinda has to play combo and tutor to end the game sometimes. When he comes play with us, the tutoring and combo feels out of place. It's a format to build for fun and fun is subjective, so of course you're not necessarly wrong, but if you think games are long and slugish you can talk about in your playgroup as well. I'm pretty sure that my decks that try to win on turn 6-7-8 with games that last 45 min to 1h15 long usually might be ''too fast'' for someone elses fun too :P@@TheSpacersChoiceShill

This is all true. Thankfully my specific play group, everyone genuinely just loves magic so no matter what nonsense anyone is playing, fast or slow, at the end of the game were usually all just laughing about it. I've really lucked out with my pod of friends honestly

@@paperpauperplayer I misspoke. I HAD this deck. I ended up changing the deck to Gruul with Klothys! Enchantress subtheme. Jund might be viable too. Gives more ramp and consistency to go with the prison and burn. Klothys is blind, so a lot of the effects are global. Including myself.
