Cool to see the hawk. Dropping some missiles too ; ) I hear you about going in and out of the phases. All around great views on that road and fun to see the different plants that I don't get to see here.

How neat that you saw the hawk. I truly admire your love of nature and your enthusiasm. And your gratuitude. "That was a gift," you said. Also, liked that you remembered being out there with your Dad. Thanks for sharing, Patriot.

Hey Patriot, Glad you are back to doing hiking vids, I like those the best. Hopefully you will also do more afternoon evening hikes spotting raptors,etc. Those are my favorite. Keep them coming!
@Patriot36

Thanks Ghostwolf! Most of the evening hikes will be in the woods until winter comes again. I would like to document some Osprey behavior but my time for that is around Oct-Nov. It's sort of seasonal. Thanks for watching man!

Thanks Swibo! It's a little different that most of my outdooring vids but so far it's had a pretty good response. It's actually the kind of video that I would follow you through because it sorta makes you feel like you're along for the tour. Thanks for stopping by man. Hope so see something from you when you get the chance. I know family and work are busy though. :)

I was actually going to go camping up there last weekend but decided not to because of the no burn law in effect. I have a hard time enjoying camping if I can't have a camp fire. Really enjoyed your videos on this trip!

That area between where you are and Blue Ridge is some of my favorite for camping.

For sure! It's all gorgeous in there. I had a nap about 1/2 way between the rim and 87, toward Blue Ridge, the same day I filmed this.

Hi there again! Nice work! I used to go there in the summers to escape the valley heat! A bit sad to see that the fires have eaten up some of the beautiful woods I used to go to, but that is nature.

Hey there Owl, yeah that was an old burn from 1994 when the Dude Fire reached parts of the plateau. The massive twin fire of 2002 was on the eastern end and touched the top but it was mostly limited to the south, lower side of the escarpment. Thanks for coming along man!

I appreciate Patriot36! I loved living in Arizona, I lived in northern and the valley regions of AZ (Phoenix area, and up by Prescott), what an amazing state, with changing terrain, climates, gun, and out door friendly, great balance of conservation, and use of natural resources... Just better jobs in Texas for me! Thanks for taking us along too!

Pure gold! Those views just keep going and going. Love it! How'd that ecoboost treat ya? : ) Bonus to see the hawk at the end and hear your thoughts on filming. Gooooooood stuff brother, on my way to part 2
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brother! The ecoboost had reasonable power but it was a bit peeky. No smooth transition from no torque to wheel spinning torque, especially noticeable on the dirt with the traction control off. Ford put all of those nanny systems on it, like the one that mutes the radio unless your seat belt is on. The rental car agency gave me the wrong "MY KEY" key for the car and it only went 77mph. I wanted to put a .45ACP through the dash when I discovered that little treat. The worse thing is that it would give a speed warning at 72mph and it would continue with the warning gong nonstop. Yeah, it was the wrong key but the fact that Ford even bothers with such douchery points to their college freshman level management. The windshield or cowl area has a whispy type of wind noise with a touch of fluttering and I had to Gorilla tape various trim pieces on the interior to keep from going insane from rattles. The Ford sync garbage only recognized my Iphone and podcasts about 25% of the time. The other 75% it wouldn't recognize the aux input as streaming data. Sometimes turning off the car and restarting would reboot something which I found out accidentally. Still it didn't always work. Since @ 77mph I could barely drive to stay out of peoples' way, the podcasts would have been a nice distraction, but no-go. I actually called Ford to share my displeasure with their product. Lastly, the wheels and tires were so out of balance that my cheeks on my face were vibrating but that's the rental agencies fault for not maintaining the vehicle. The steering wheel controls, placement & ergonomics were atrocious. I would bump them at times during normal driving and reset things unintentionally, change stations and dump my iphone link. The systems and menus were very unintuitive and nothing could be accomplished at a glace. I normally had to pull over to figure something out, like resetting the odo. It only averaged 22.5mpg over 450 miles of driving. 155miles were dirt. Granted I'm a lead foot but keep in mind that it was limited to 77mph! By far the worst vehicle I've driven in quite some time. I suppose the super-nanny electronics make most people feel warm and cozy but I wanted to push it off a cliff, then repel down and set it on fire until it burned out, then melt it down in that molten pool that John Conner lowered the T101 into. Oh, the high speed handing and balance on the dirt was good to very good. That was it's only redeeming quality. You just had to go and ask didn't you!! :)

Patriot36 Your last paragraph (yes I said paragraph) was hilarious : ) That's a bummer your rental was no bueno. I would say they seem to have things dialed in a bit more in their F series line. I've been driving that new ecoboost F-150 for 4 months now and it's been great. Pulled an 30 foot airstream camper with it on 2 big trips and it tows great. The tow/haul setting on the trans worked perfectly. Sync hooks up to my iphone or ipad every time. Only one did I have an issue with it finding my phone, but it was because I had bluetooth off on the devise : )

Those variations in altitude really lend to an appreciation to the landscape. We've definitely been blessed with topographical diversity out here.

Very nice! What is all the reason for the downed trees especially in the early portion - forest fire damage, lightning? Do you carry a satphone?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob! The direct cause is the crazy winds that blow over that rim. The weakening agent was past fires. It's a very normal & natural landscape for that type of environment and I've seen the same attributes at other similar areas like the Grand Canyon.

Yeah, it's tough because I have a core group of die-hards that love the outdooring stuff but these videos get 1/5 -1/10 (on average) the views of my flashlight, knife and shooting videos. I have to retain a certain balance otherwise I abandon the bulk of my viewers. If my outdooring crowd clicked on adds/likes/shares I can see where that revenue is coming from and tweak expenditures to the videos that support the channel more. I might add this topic to a channel update next time I'm doing an outdooring video as well. Thanks for the support Petr!

Oh I see. I can imagine commercial products are attracting more audience. It's a shame though. Not that I don't like the reviews, they are really useful. There is just more to get for me from the outdooring videos. They're more rewarding. Thanks for your effort to keep the channel going! And I'd be happy to visit this place some time next year. I love it.

Great vid Patriot! I've been thinking about taking a drive up there soon. What are the open camping rules, can you pull over anywhere and set up camp?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yeah, for 95% of the area that's the case. The camping is more restricted or at least outlined around the lakes. It's nicer away from the lakes though if you want to be away from people.
