Great video as always! I really enjoyed seeing the diversity of the desert. BTW I'm super jealous watching this as I hover over my heater! This southern boy is eagerly awaiting the return of 90 degree heat with 90 percent humidity!

Thanks SA! Hang in there with the winter buddy! Hopefully you'll get a break soon. This of course is our nice time but come February, I'll already be "sweating" the idea of summer coming.

It's funny because I still know so little when compared to the people who lived here before modern conveniences. Small groups of people who could live off the desert year round amaze me. Thanks Grubkat!

You can NEVER go wrong with a CheeZ-It! The reduced fat ones are my favorite because they're more crispy :) I usually keep a box of hiking food on the ready, but it's getting low. I'll add in some fajita mix. Been wanting to try that one since you ate some in another video. The packet gourmet that Shug is fond of is great grub as well. Limited shelf life so don't over order :) I love this style of video. Really feels like I'm out there with you. Funny to see plant life that is not native to the area. Kudzu is like that out here. Look it up, that's stuff will take over. Silver carp also come to mind. You the man and keep 'em coming!

I didn't know there was a difference in snap between them. I guess I have to go against my better instincts and buy some reduced fat ones. I suppose I can always smear them with butter later...lol. Limited shelf life and weight of the PG food in my mind just makes it a full, fancy meal minus some prep and clean up. What better as an indulgence on a multi-day fun hike though! Dude, I looked it up... that Kudzu is nuts! You caused me 20 minutes of blackhole time on the internet with that one but I learned something new.

Very cool. Really interesting learning about a few of the different plants in your area. I'm up in the high desert in southeastern Oregon. We have those similar temperature swings here. A 50 degree difference between daytime and night time temp isn't unheard of here. Can make preparing a bit of a challenge at times.

Coyote Works Thanks CW. I'm a little ashamed that I actual don't know nearly enough when it comes to plants and medicinals. Sometimes I'll go out with a field book with the intention of increasing my plant knowledge and often the identification can be frustrating. I've taken samples to local nurseries along with pictures which is helpful after the fact but I'd love to have a plant expert right there at the time...lol. High desert can be severe because of those extremes, right! It make kit selection challenging just in the clothing department alone.

I"m with you. I've really been trying to learn more in that area as well. But it is frustrating. I've tried a couple different books. But I get in the field and the pictures don't look enough like the plants I'm seeing for me to be 100% confident I'm identifying them correctly. I really think the best way for me to learn would be to find someone that was knowledgeable and just get to spend some time in field with them. I think we're probably in similar places with our knowledge of the plants in our area. I know some, but I realize there is also so much more to learn about!

You can't beat Mountain House meals, super tasty with no additives or preservatives. Great hike and always good to see what others carry in their backpack. I like the look of those hand warmers - how do they work - is it a chemical reaction? How long do they last?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 9 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I always enjoy a good Mountain house! You got it! Yeah, it's a chemical process of iron and oxygen. The more oxygen they get the more heat they produce and the shorter they last. The less oxygen they get the less heat they produce and the longer they last. In the open they last 6-8 hours. In a pocket 12-24 hours. More than enough for an overnight.

Excellent video, these keep getting better and better. We had hiking footage, a nature lesson, a gear check, and lunch all in the same video!! I find that the Hot Hands brand warmers that you have here work better than other brands, plus they are made in the USA. Also, I collect tinder on hikes myself, but I use a small stuff sack (I think it came with a camp pillow or something). It keeps my pockets clean (ever wash a pair of pants with a cargo pocket full of cattail down?) and also prevents the tinder from absorbing moisture from my sweat which it can do with pocket linings. Great job again. BTW, did you get my message?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks VP! I had been wanting to show more plant life and I know that I always enjoy it when people have food in their videos so I thought I'd try to include it. Also, with it being winter time in most of the country, I figured I made them a little longer than usual. Gives people an escape. I didn't know that they were made in the US but I have used some Coleman branded heatpacks that didn't seem to work as well. Can't beat the price of the Hot Hands either, right! Great idea of keeping a stuff sack in your pocket. That would probably work better that the little sandwich bag that I usually use. Message? no. I assume you're referring to a PM? I'll go check...

Just checked my messages.... after watching a video on how to do it.... again! Remember it was next to a down arrow on the upload button? As if that wasn't stupid enough, now Google put it under the avatar and under "Creator Studio." In any case, I didn't find any messages from you but feel free to resend and I'll recheck. Thanks buddy!

I want to give my feedback on the meal "Chicken Fajita": I bought this meal online for $16 because Patriot made it look awesome but now after I tried it I want to say it tastes like shit and the only scenario that I will have this meal again if I'm in one of those " I shouldn't be alive" situations. What happened Patriot? I really liked your bird rescue operation a couple of years ago.
@Patriot36

Hey AJ, what can I say man? Tastes are pretty subjective I guess. I still really like that meal and almost had one for dinner while hiking last night. I mean, sure it's freeze dried but honestly, I really like most of the Mountain House meals. Have you really not liked any videos since the quail rescue? lol You're killing me brother... It seems like I see you all the time in the comments, man.

Patriot36 No Quail rescue was my favorite, I also liked the longboarding video and I watch your videos all the time, the home improvements are pretty informing, the gun reviews are pretty violence! But the funniest one when you did the sparks count test.
