Mauritian author and Guantanamo Bay detainee
Event took place, Tuesday 8th March, 6.00 p.m.
............................................................................................................................
Mohamedou was born in Rosso, Mauritania. In 2001, he was detained and renditioned to a black site in Jordan where he was tortured, then transported to Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan and finally to Guantanamo Bay. While there, he wrote a diary. The manuscript, which he penciled in his isolation cell, was finally released with substantial redactions in 2013. It was first published in the United States and United Kingdom in January 2015 and has since been published in twenty-five languages. This year, the film “The Mauritanian”, featuring his imprisonment and eventual release, directed by Kevin Macdonald, and starring Jodie Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tahar Rahim, was released to exceptional acclaim.

This man is from my country, and he was wronged a lot in his life, and his mother and brother died while he is still in prison, and this, by God, is a difficult and sad matter, but my brother Muhammadu kept his constant smile which he was known for since he was young . Bro I'm proud of you

When a man holds on tight to the teachings of "all" the prophets through out time, and when he knows that turning to the dark side is destructive, then there are no limits to his willingness to forgive when he has the upper hand. That smile he displays shines brighter than the largest star in the universe because he is "sincere". He learned from the Prophet Muhammad, Peace and Blessings be on him, and as taught in Al-Qur'an that, "Good action and bad action are not equal. Push back with something that is better than what has been done to you, that you may find a person who had animosity to you is like a dear friend. And this "state" or "rank" will be reached by those who are patient and they are the lucky ones" This is a general translation of meaning for the "verses" 34 and 35 in Surah (Chapter) named Fuṣṣilat (# 41). What Mohamedou has done is basically accepted and surrendered to Allah's decision for him to go through the experience. And, as we can see here, the society gained more by seeing such a positive and forgiving man and how his reactions built bridges between people. I don't know how "I" would react if I went through his experience.

Two special man. And its good we see this side of being a Muslim, of Islam as we often are confronted with radical religious people who we see as a danger for our free society. But I believe there are many peacefull good willing people also in Islam. They only shouldn't get mentally highjacked by fanatics having a own agenda.

Americans took this man to hell, and Americans rescued him. What is "exceptional," about America is the Republic, its structure of law and justice, and these breaches of those ideals highlight, why law requires people of integrity to have any justice at all. BUT without the system, the structure, we are doomed. But it is no guarantee we will live up to the ideal, and certain we will fail to live the ideal we have established.

I will take it one step further. This is the reason we need to bring to justice the people responsible for this. Not the torturer, not the jailer, but the people responsible for this horror. This is an extraordinary man who has more grace than anyone, how many other innocents were completely destroyed by this?
