Mohamedou Ould Slahi is the subject of the film The Mauritanian and has been called "the most tortured man in Guantanamo Bay".
Mohamedou lived for 14 years in Guantanamo Bay, was subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques, otherwise known as torture, was sexually assaulted by prison officers, was force-fed food, water boarded, subjected to a mock-execution, and spent nearly 20 years away from his home country. Without being charged once.

His story is essential for humanity right now. Can’t wait to watch. Watched the movie last week after learning about him via MP's podcast.

This man is absolutely the epitome of the endurance of humanity.... hope, forgiveness and an un-waivering abiding LOVE. I heard of him and his story from the Michaela Peterson podcast, and I hope (I'm writing this at the beginning of this video) that this one doesn't have me in tears like the other one did. Without a doubt, we humans are TERRIBLE to one another.

Our beloved Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: “Whoever suffers an injury and forgives (the person responsible), Allah will raise his status to a higher degree and remove his sins.” If we expect forgiveness from Almighty Allah then we also have the ability to forgive others. respect for Mohamedou ❤️❤️✨

Thank you so much for this episode! I did a lot of internal reflection of my own problems that I am going through, and how they're absolutely pale in comparison to what Mohamedou has been through. I am very thankful that Mohamedou is able to relay his story in such a positive manor and educating people about being a better, less troubled soul. He has taught me to be grateful of the things and privillages that I have, instead of the things I don't. Much love!

Looking and listening to this man, and reflecting on his story, that hell he has gone through leaves every decent, humble man without a single word.. One of the saddest stories I have ever heard that had happened to an individual. His story is a proof that even "the greatest democracy" of this planet can become a fascist swamp in a split second . Hats off to the US self-criticism that has been happening through books, movies and plays only unfortunately , but the core, the main essence is still there: that country whose only population was living in tents and riding horses while my country had universities, parliament, libraries, scientific institutions etc. has been, still is and will stay a fortress of fear and paranoia. Until the large part of the US population (as we could see the last year, at least 50% of them) don't go through a massive the cathartic moment of enlightenment, we will keep watching and listening stories like this one.

You've asked about PTSD among the executors and torturers, so here is a story about that. After the end of WW2 in Austria, there were many 10s of thousands of people fleeing in front of communist partisan forces. The British army rejected to accept them and protect them, they tricked them into believing that they will be sent to Italy, but they've sent them into the hands of communist partisans instead. What happened next was a series of mass executions that lasted through the summer of 1945. There are around 2000 mass graves along the way where the refugees and all kinds of real and potential political enemies were moved and executed. After a few years a new kind of sickness surfaced. Communist partisan veterans, usually when standing in a queue or waiting in a waiting room, would suddenly fall on the ground in pain and would start wild screaming and kicking around. They've called it "Partisan sickness", PTSD wasn't a thing back then. As it was absolutely forbidden to talk about communist crimes until 1990, it took more than 45 years to analyze what was happening and to realize that it was the PTSD on side of the participants in communist war crimes and pogroms. A few of the British soldiers also suffered from PTSD because they've knowingly sent thousands of people into the hands of communists. Some of the testimonies can be found on YT.

Such a powerful story. So painful to hear. And our own politicians are complicit in this too right now with Julian Assange and were with many Guantanamo bay stories too. And right now with the covid story and the concealment of information for corporate profits - makes me so so sad. And the guard PTSD is hardly surprising. Only about 1% of the population are truly psychopathic so you can't fill all job posts with psychopaths (they've usually got better things to do like climbing the corporate ladder) Saddens me to think that even the film can't do it justice. Especially when people will watch it, be deeply moved and then go to lunch somewhere with friends. Too much cognitive dissonance.

That this innocent man endured all that was placed upon him outside the limits of surviving such horrendous atrocities and still forgive his aggressors, tortures and captives, right up to Obama who kept him in jail for 7 yrs after he was to be released by the court is a very humble and amazing man. Shame on you Canada 🇨🇦 for handing him over with no evidence. You are absolutely responsible for your part in what happened to this man. 34:49
