There's this guy on KZbin who does an online art class, his students post work they want him to critique on their discord, don't know if it's specifically just for people in the art program though. He actually explains what the problems are, demonstrating how light works and how to pick colours .

The way bullying is so normalized in Tiktok is what makes it harder on the platform. Especially that xiaohongshu trend going on around artists, some people seemed to claim the art styles were "repetitive" and every time someone's art improves through xiaohongshu an angel apparently lost its wings which is ridiculous, for me. When I was in middle school, one of my classmates made fun of my art and said the people looked like creepy aliens. I was so hurt that I gave up drawing for probably twenty years. I was convinced I could not draw for DECADES because of what one person said to me. My family convinced me to get tiktok. Im not longer on the app because it was just so TOXIC. I was only there for like a year and everyone was to rude. Not only that but the app itself is so messy. I know the tiktok art community makes it very easy to call out these behaviors, but I feel the need to point out that this issue has been around in online art community spaces longer than Tiktok has even been around. I remember another artist telling me around a decade ago that their 6 year old nephew was a better artist than me and that I should just give up art before I waste my life on a hobby I'll never be good at. When I tried to stand up for myself and report this harassment to one of the moderators of the forums, they threatened to kick ME out for being "unwilling to accept critique after posting in the critique channel"! We as an entire community, not just the tiktok community, need to crack down on bullying. It has been an issue for a long time and needs to stop.

The Miku art looks weird BUT absolutely in the best way possible. Her facial proportions look so unusual to the point that they become genuinely super unique and cool, and they're definitely a very memorable part of the piece. The colors are fantastic, the shading is dope, that lineart is very nice and it for SURE stands out from the rest of the generic "super faithful to the original style" renditions of Miku. I just really hope she makes more of this stuff, go girl!

I think understanding how to process art and the intention behind it is very important because it avoids all the drama that clearly starts from someone misinterpreting why exactly that art was made, namely the situation you mentioned about Jens. Imma be real when I first saw this picture I was like eeee but like this is one of those styles that the more you look at it the more it grows on you. It's not like initially the most appealing thing to look at but I'm one of those dorks that blows the image up and looks at all the little details and I must say this image has become a very appealing sight to me. I love the line art immensely. That's the kind of line art I aspire to be able to do some day it's so varying and the way they blacked out the thumb for shadow plus the colored parts of the lineart. Like this persons art style isn't everyone's cup of tea it wasn't mine at first but tbh it grew on me the more I looked at it up close and could appreciate the little details that went into it. Even if this art isn't appealing to some this person is a GOOD artist regardless of how you may feel about their work. They know what they're doing and I'm here for it.

This is likely due to how bullying has been normalized these days and how covid has allowed non artists to get into art community which in turn cause a lot of problems. I grew up with those types of unique art styles and I look up to those types of artists and still do to this day, this made me realize how much animation meme community has exposed me to many art styles while the ones on tiktok are only consuming conventionally attracive drawings (nothing wrong with them) and thinks that's what makes art pretty (especially non artists) when that is not the case.
