In theory a good approach, but the research isn't as good as it might seem (-> the passage in the Mahabharata DOES exist, it is translated differently and condensed in Däniken's book!). The conclusions are also sometimes based on prejudice ("don't trust ancient poems").

@@CuriousBeingbyTinaThe city had over 700 wells.. if the civilisation had extensive knowledge of drainage, irrigation and water systems. If the river changed course it could surely not have been so dramatic as to not be rediverted to irrigate crops or even to be dammed? I appreciate your great video, and thank you for your research on our behalf. I had read that some of the brick walls had indeed been vitrified by an intense heat source, but only those on a particular side, in waves from an epicentre. Is this just fanciful misinformation?

I've heared about Mohenjo-Daro before, the subject is really fascinating. There are some theories that possibly Hindu religion gods and how they look are somehow influenced by increased radiation and siamese twins like anomalies deriving from post-nuclear environment (like multiple heads on Agni, more than one pair of arms on multiple gods, for example Kali). I'm aware how fantastic claims like that are, but I still must admit, if you add it up together with an ancient nuclear war, flying vamana vehicles it simply strokes your fantasy the right way and makes you ponder. While there are no factual backing for any of that, I believe it would be a fascinating setting for some sci-fi novel series. A shame there aren't really many books or shows combining ancient era civilizations with technology, Stargate was pretty cool at that but it seems that's it. Thanks for a video! Grounded and resonable like always!

The amount of sci-fi written and read by small fanbases and promptly forgotten is mind-boggling. The volume I have read is staggering to me in retrospect. Along with almost every ancient culture on the planet having creation stories involving beings from the sky who changed and enlightened humanity? Arrogance like yours is part of mainstream science's problem, since the Victorian era.
@dziku2222

@@righteousindignation3548 what's up with the hostility here man? people are trying to be resonable here. While some scientists indeed can be arrogant, just like any man regardless of proffesion, the problem of modern science is reliability of relaying info. There is a lot of interesting research on almost any topic, but most people (which is understable) don't want to spend hours on reading boring, stiff research results, so they read short internet articles without checking out sources. Those articles, often warp research results / misunderstand those or simply relay the info badly or in biased way. While similiarity between myths of multiple cultures are an interesting topic, it would be quite silly to treat that as a sole reason of UFOs flying around the planet and spontaneously enlightening different nations. Is it intresting? Yeah, that's very cool. Can it be disproved? Not really, it's much easier to find facts supporting something, instead of any evidence that something did NOT happen. Is it probable? No, because there are much simpler ockham razor explanation. Cross-culture similiarities appear very often in many aspects, all cultures are human after all, and humans think in similar way. There are tons of myths about a great flood covering the whole Earth, which in this case has been simply disproven by geologists checking out many different layers of of the ground.

Good things come to those who wait! Boy oh boy! What a good one! Your so thorough and logical in your evaluation. What I may add to your concise evaluation is the perception of similar events from similar times. Atwater said that perception is reality. So observe three sites from antiquity. Pompeii, Mohenjo-daro, Tunguska; P, MD and T to preserve the sanity of my over active spell check. P was half the age of MD, but was discovered almost 200 years earlier than MD. Tunguska was quite recent, being in the early 1900’s. About the time MD was discovered and well into early excavation, P was also into about the same stages of excavation. And T was receiving its first serious investigation. This was the late 1920’s. Enter a world wide depression and world war to distract folks from these sites. Then in the 1950’s interest and efforts were renewed. And what was fresh on everybody’s mind? Images of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And thus every mystery became a potential nuclear mystery in the minds of even the most serious. The Manhattan project that created the bomb was a secret for years. And thus nuclear theory and more importantly detection systems did not become proficient until the 1960’s or 70’s. Now here P diverges and stands out. The discovered of P were Englishmen, as were those of MD. Steeped in Greco-Roman culture and history. But not the culture or history of the MD peoples. And so when ash encased bodies began to appear in P in the 1920’s “everybody knew” P had been destroyed by a volcano. Both P and MD hit notoriety about the same time in the 1920’s and both had been largely revealed by the late 1960’s…..and splashed across the pages of the National Geographic. And people, non-technical people saw the similarities. Regular streets. Bodies or skeletons frozen where they fell. Detailed photos of the excavations. But culturally P was explained. MD was not. Enter T. At this same point T was being seriously investigated. And clearly it was a “blast site”. And it too was reported as such. As much as anything was reported out of the Soviet Union during the Cold War to the west. And the early speculation on T was that it too was a bomb. Out of time and place. Nature abhors a vacuum….and a mystery. P was explained but MD and T were not. So active imaginations provided possible explanations based upon the perception of that Cold War era…. Nuclear holocaust. Tina, clever young soul that you are, came along after this unfortunate period. We now have a simple explanation for T. An air burst from some comet, thanks to astrophysics. P was explained by classic history and confirmed by geophysics. But not MD. It remained a mystery. And Tina has hit upon the most likely explanation. Europe was ravaged repeatedly in the Middle Ages by “the plague” recent developments in cellular biology have allowed us, only in the last 15 years or so, to actually track Y pestis back to it’s apparent source. Western Asia in the general vicinity of the Indus Valley….and MD. Various sites in Europe known to be mass graves from the “Black Death” have been excavated. They closely resemble the random nature of burial at MD. When everybody you know just died your doing your best just to toss them into a hole and cover them up. And the apparent time line of the skeletons at MD loosely fits the first evidence of Y pestis, so says forensic epidemiology. Atwood said perception is reality. People see what they want to see. In this case nuclear devastation without proof. Einstein also spoke to perception. He said it was myopic and often led to false truths. In the case of MD we see that Einstein prolly had the right of it. Great job Tina. As always….. Fox out

@@CuriousBeingbyTina Di nada, señorita. It’s mutual. Now there are other examples of vitrification of stone structures. Better documented and even more enigmatic. The Bronze Age hill forts of Scotland. You should look into those. You may find a video there. The Egyptian temple with the apparently melted stairs. I recall you may have mentioned that in passing. Or the “desert glass” of the eastern Sahara. Bits of that turn up in king tuts grave goods. Fused stones at the top of that Cambodian temple in the jungle. The list goes on. Some well documented and clearly the work of high heat. Others not well documented and hard to substantiate, like MD. But from those that do bear scrutiny a tantalising pattern emerges. Follow the trail of crumbs. No telling what you’ll find? Fox out

Very much enjoyed the video. Its only a few years I have had interest in ancient history. I'm kind of ashamed that I never hunted down the fact there was no scientific evidence of radioactive skeletons or melted granite walls at Mohanjno Daro. I never bought into any of the mythology of nuclear wars. In fact most of what I read was damage so small in scale it diminished the idea of nuclear war. Which still left an unexplained ancient nuclear site. I really enjoy your videos. If you have not seen it yet Uncharted X has some expert commentary on scans of ancient Egyptian vases.

Excellent job as always. Seems like a good explanation of the evidence, or lack there of. However, Praveen Mohan in one of his videos is reading from ancient palm frond books where there are descriptions of a war w flying machines, atomic explosions and beam weapons. He can read Sanskrit, so one less level of distortion. I don't know if it was the Mahabarota or something else ; I'll see if I can find it then link. Praveen often gives sensational dubious conclusions appealing to his Ancient Astronauts fan base , but here he's just reading. If its not an eye witness description of a future war taking place in ancient times, Science Fiction was first written thousands of years ago.

Dating these civilizations is extremely difficult. Humans during the early parts of our time would find older structures and reuse the materials. During the Ice Ages, they were so few that finding signs of any passing is impossible. But what about the cities? They were already built.some of the small human tribes would grow in numbers during times of good weather. They would take over some of the older structures and remodel. Until the next freezing period would crush their numbers or force them to migrate.

Great work, Tina. The brick architecture of the Indus Valley Civilization is in technology and workmanship at least on par with the Old Kingdom of Egypt. The well planned layout of their cities even rivals Roman standards that are more than 2000 years younger. Probably they and their neighbors were mostly, but not 100% peaceful. You don't build a city retaining wall of that size for no reason. It's expensive and it creates even more expensive problems when the city grows. You don't need a wall of that size just to keep elephants and tigers out. I think the most important purpose of these thick walls is protection from natural disaster. A massive wall can prevent wildfires from entering the city and it can at least slow down floods entering the city. Many of the buildings inside the city have walls that look a lot thicker than they need to be just to get them structurely sound for 2 or 3 story buildings. Most of them are designed way thicker on the base than on the top. That creates a lot of strength. Most probably they can withstand powerful earthquakes without much damage. And these massive walls prevent house fires from spreading to larger areas.

Logically, the Indo-European / Aryan invasion would date closer to 2500 BC, as it did elsewhere. The Sanskrit tales are those of the Indo-Europeans (Sanskrit is an IE language), as noted in the video, and apparently not the language used by the residents of Mohenjo-daro. As for them being a peaceful people, archaeologists feel they have room for doubt. Archaeologists once thought that the Mayan and Minoan peoples were entirely peaceful, until the texts were deciphered and additional evidence of war and violence were found. So with Mohenjo-daro, it's probably just a lack of evidence of war, and not actual evidence of peace. The sister city of Harappa, up the river a bit, has more evidence, and one of the highest rates of injury in South Asian prehistory. Harappa also shows signs of steady decline from 2000-1400 BC, and it may be related to illness, changing climate, and growing low level strife, like if a central govt fell, and there were bandits and feuds. There's no signs of conquest. It's worth noting that this same time period was one of increasing desertification in the regions of Mesopotamia and Egypt to the west, with what were once enormous pastures drying up into dust and no longer supporting the great herds. So, despite living on one of the Earth's greatest river networks, it seems possible that these cities fell due to a drying climate, and over time the people just moved elsewhere, possibly becoming the servant class in regions less affected by the changing climate.

When I first heard about Mohenjo-Daro many years ago on the History Channel, I naively took everything that the Ancient Alien narrators said about as truth. Absolutely fascinated, I even told my family about it. Unlike the narrators of that show, the network, and their irresponsible propensity to omit facts (if not avoid fact-checking altogether), you most certainly did your homework. You did what they should have done a long time ago, which was review the story, which never becomes any less fascinating, no matter how many times I hear it, and then determined what was true and what was not. I also find it very interesting how different places on Earth are more radioactive than normal. Guess that even being buried under what is probably miles of rock isn't enough to keep the natural radiation of certain minerals like uranium completely isolated, but then again, I don't even know how far underground those minerals have a tendency to grow. Don't get me wrong, that show was and continues to be entertaining, but they also hurt the credibility of hypotheses such as the Ancient Astronaut Theory and Silurian Hypothesis, and take focus away from artifacts that might actually be odd or out of place, where time and energy might better be spent. Does these conclusions come off as a little disappointing, considering that I am guilty of loving a dramatic story? The answer to that is yes. But there is a time and place for dramatic story-telling. But in the case where the purpose is to impart factual information, that cannot take priority. It's also probably for the best anyways, because if the story were true as is, the implications would be fairly terrifying. But it also makes no sense for an alien race to nuke JUST Mohenjo-Daro, when there were many other contemporary civilizations at the time. It also makes no sense, when there is no evidence that Mohenjo-Daro was advanced to the point of possessing modern technology that could pose a threat to a nuclear power, unless they were just doing it for the laughs, or Mohenjo-Daro wasn't the target, but just collateral damage. Also, we're talking about thousands of years ago, so it is fortunate that we don't have to worry about any more powerful exotic weapons that could have been invented in the meantime. I mean, maybe we do, since there is the Fermi Paradox and Dark Forest Theory, but at least Mohenjo-Daro has nothing to do with it!

Luckily, with the arrival of a heavy thunderstorm, Hrithik Roshan realized that the dam would burst and the Sindhu River would flood the city. He rallied the people to lash boats together and form a floating bridge. They evacuated Mohenjo Daro and crossed to the other side of the river. The dam collapsed, and Maham, chained in the city square, is drowned. They moved on to a new river and he saw the unicorn he dreamed of before, they settled and named the river Ganga.

Mystery is what happened to people by tens or hundreds of thousands, only a few skeletons found in a strange manner. Mahabharat war dated to 7,000 years ago by some. Amazing thing is bricks from this place are re-used to build houses, railroad tracks, some modern bricks don't last beyond 50-100 years. So well planned, designed, multi story houses, remarkable 5,6,7K years ago, who knows for sure. Wish we have a time machine.

The radioactivity measured on some location(s) at Mohenjo Daro might rather be due to the use of Uranium ore(s) to obtain pigments for their manufacturing activities.

Chelyabinsk opened our eyes to what happened at Tunguska, and a Chelyabinsk type explosion most likely took out this city. Without findings of trinite fused soils I can't begin to consider an ancient "nuclear war."
@ericvosselmans5657

As improbable as a nuclear war is, an ancient city getting hit by an asteroid is perhaps even more unlikely. At these ancient times, the few cities compromised approx. 0 % of the surface area of the planet. One of them getting hit by an asteroid would be a case of astronomically bad luck... Having said that, I do agree. An ancient nuclear war is just nonsense.

Mahabharata was written from a much older oral tradition, so while it's less likely, it's not impossible that the poem is older than Mohenjo-daro.

1. The Great War (of Mahabharata) happened at the time when the 'Arundhati Nakshatra' was moving ahead of 'Vasistha Nakshatra' (cluster) which proves the destruction at Indus valley coeval. 2. The city of 'Dwaraka' has been found submerged under the ocean exactly as described in the scriptures. Dwaraka existed at the same time as the IVC 3. There were no major wars during the era (prior to the great war) confirms the era as 'Dwapar Yuga' as described in the scriptures. The great war and the destruction marked the beginning of 'Kali Yuga'. 4. Most of then existing kingdoms across the region joined the war at Kurukshetra either on the side of Pandavas or Kauravas. So everyone got involved in some or the other way. 5. The war clearly had some rules (as mentioned in Mahabharata) including the timing (from dawn to dusk) and the place (Kurukshetra) which couldn't be violated. 6. Shankhas (Conch shells) were found at IVC sites (currently on display in the museums including the one at Mohenjob Daro. 7. If one observes the skeletons in the VS Lane 4 or The House # 74 , one can clearly see that the deaths were sudden and not due to a disease. People don't attempt to run upstairs towards the street when they are dying due to a disease. One may also see a man and a woman trying to cover and protect their child by holding the child between them as if they were trying to save the child from a shockwave. 8. Why were only a few bodies found? Well that could be because the vast majority had already left in anticipation of an attack. Also a tactical nuclear weapon can cause limited damage and destruction, not all nuclear bombs are made to destroy everything. 8. There is a clear 50 yard epicenter of the explosion where the vitrification is evident. Which disease can cause that to happen? 9. The description of an ancient weapon can't be found if one reads in the wrong place. It's found in Yajurveda Vasistha Dhanurveda -Verse 83-84 ( and also in many other places / scriptures) . Hypothesis / conclusions can't be based on a misquoted version of the verses. One may not find that even if they search for a million years. So it's prudent to look at all the sources. 10 .If one says it's all imagination by some ancient people, I would say, how could they imagine something that immaculately matches the description of a modern nuclear weapon? 11. Bhagwat Geeta clearly describes how the Universe was created and what it is like (Adhyaya-18) which also describes Shunyakaha (No space-time) 10. Those who wish to live in denial can do so but that in no way would change the facts. 12. Greek Megasthenes in the 3rd century BCE. described how modern the civilization was and that those people worshiped the mighty Lord Herakles (Hare Krishna) of Methoras (City of Mathura, the 1000s of years old remains of which still exists for everyone to see) Thanks!

About the vitrified ceramics it also happened by mistake. I don't remember exactly where but in Crete there is a site where there is the remains of an olive oil storage from around that time who has burned and the heat was enough to vitrifie the walls and the amphoras.

As part of some folklore in certain communities in India, there is a legend of mass migrations out of that region due to progressive water scarcity caused by drying up of a massive river which flowed in that region. That seems to be the more plausible reason for abandoning those cities than the nuclear war. Also I would like to point out that kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLXfIiNnLWnZqM at 7:20 you missed to account for the oral traditions of India (aka 'Guru-Shishya Parampara'). The ancient Indian texts were memorized and orally handed down through the generations for many centuries before they were eventually written down. (This oral tradition still exists in India albeit in a small number of traditional schools). Hence referring to only the written evidence to estimate the possible time when it was created will skew the timeframe analysis. Regardless of this, I am not claiming that there are references to nuclear war in Mahabharata. Mahabharata talks about a 'Great War' that lasted for 18 days and many advanced weaponry & battle strategy was used and it is said that this war lead to colossal loss of life. Also the astronomical observations (by way of positioning of celestial bodies) quoted in Mahabharata doesn't add up to IVC period, it points to a different period.
