Mohnish Pabrai at U of Texas: "Your investment mandate is so sad"

In this latest interview with Mohnish Pabrai, he gives an in-person talk at the University of Texas on value investing.
The students have 3 big hurdles to overcome: Can't invest in nanocaps, can't invest outside the US, and can't concentrate beyond 3% at cost.

In my opinion he only owned Reysas and Tav in Turkey. (he never owned Agesa Insurance) I watched all of Mohnish's interviews. He never sayed he owned more than 2 companies in Turkey He has spoken in many talks about how much he hates in insurance companies and the mistake he has made buying one to invest the float like Buffett. This was a few years ago and he sayed he will never invest in insurance companies again. People see that the stocks Mohnish buys in Turkey go up a few hundred percent, very fast, as soon, as he discloses the position. They say that Pabrai bought something, just to pump the price and than sell with a short term profit.

He is just white noise. The great compounder Shinoken, the amazing golden goose Alibaba, the digital Warren Buffets at Tencent,… He is an amazing sales person though! Digital Warren Buffets 😂 you can’t make that shit up. Ok but later you realize that you don’t understand China. Circle of competence? But it’s hard to stay within your circle of competence if it is a null set.

Thanks for the thought provoking discussion. Interesting lesson. I've talked to wall street equity research who said they're happy if they do better than 50pct. Similar concept I think but much shorter term than buffet?
