Also from what manga readers have been saying, the ending was bad in part because it was very rushed and maybe the extra time they get from a part 3 could help make the pace of the ending better. And with Mikasa finally being able to do something for the greater good instead of just for her feelings to Eren (that probably tore her apart inside and created a trauma she'll have to deal with, but its about her moving on from her attachment to eren and being free to be her own person instead of living for someone else). It is a bitterwsweet ending even though I think it was the perfect way to end it. From what I've heard, The Final Season was supposed to be just in 2 parts and the first part was supposed to end on Eren starting the rumbling. But because of a certain virus and the pandemic, the studio was forced to cutoff the first part short so that they can do the animation justice with the amount of time they had. As for the 3rd part, as far as I know, the studio wanted to give this final arc some well deserved attention so they're giving themselves the time to animate it.

@Sweetdude642 жыл бұрын
@@Ez-pu4tl XD Your comment made me laugh, you are genuinely amazing, haha. Nah I just think if they wanted to go so many episodes without showing the rumbling then this was a perfect stopping point. In reality they sort of stopped it in a weird place plot-wise if you think about it... ending it an episode or 2 after being invaded and right as the fight on Paradis begins, just to pick up at the hype part that we were waiting for so long - the final battle of Eren vs Reiner, that was teased to happen in the battle of Marley. Eren talked to Reiner, then Reiner had time to think, and now they face each other again. For like an episode or 2. Then the rumbling. Then cut to side characters for the rest of the seasons. So my issue is that Eren vs Reiner was such a big theme in The Final Season Part 1 that their fight would have made for the perfect finale. Not only that, but we were teased what the rumbling was near the beginning of the final season part 1. This would have been the perfect stopping point because of that. ALSO this is sort of a changing point in the story because this effectively ends the Marley vs Paradis fight and immediately shifts the focus onto the next conflict for the rest of the season randomly. It's very clear that Part 1 could have been about Eren vs Reiner and Part 2 could have been about the Rumbling. Then, Sim's "Rumbling" Opening song would have been even better! And the Akuma ga whatever ending song would have been perfect, too... FINALLY I personally had a issue with the pacing. Final Season part 1 became too slow when returning to Marley in, like, episode 8 or 9. Also, Final Season Pt2 was slow after the rumbling began. In this way, both seasons would have condensed down the B, C, D, Etc. plotlines to focus on the actual main story, instead of cutting away or hinting at it this whole season, lol. We didn't need half of a season to show Gabi realizing Sasha was cool. We didn't need half of a season to show the Rumbling moving from Paradis to Marley. The Jeagerists were focused on a bit too much for what we got. Onyakapon is pretty cool, but Yelena feels like wasted potential. Etc etc. The main problem is pacing.

Rather, I cheer for individual character moments when they overcome trials and get frustrated when they make a wrong/bad decision (much like how I am to myself and people I care about). The fact I can experience so many emotions towards so many characters without the story being ruined, is a huge success. That to me is the best part about AoT; how it evolved beyond good guys vs bad guys. @scottbecker43672 жыл бұрын
The writing is subpar to me. The characters are very static in their motivations, and there are some glaring plot holes that make me question why the plot played out the way it did. In terms of spectacle, the show really doesn't have a rival though. It's very impressive to watch.
@gilsercrow35902 жыл бұрын
SPOILERS. I think the ending itself proves to me the story isn't very well educated. The way the rest of the world treats eldians after the rumbling is just so unrealistic. Racists don't become less racist after you feed into the stereotypes which is that eldians are murderous uncontrollable monsters. 5 eldians stopping the rumbling isn't going to stop the rest of the world from thinking they are monsters when thousands of colossal titans just trampled the entire world. I didn't like how convoluted eren's way of "saving" the world and eldians was either. It was to kill 80% of the global population so that Mikasa and crew would stop him so that she would cut off his head and then kiss it so that ymir with her Stockholm syndrome could see that even a monster can be loved so that she would turn everyone back to humans. Eren's motives get so messy because he can see the future. The thing is that if eren couldn't see the future all of his actions would still be very similar to the ones he did in the end and there motives would be much less questionable. He can see the future but it's also implied that he could change it if he wanted he just didn't want to risk it because at the very least in the future he saw he was sure that the people he cared about lived except Sasha. With how convoluted of a solution it was however I find it very hard to believe that there would be no alternative and that eren wouldn't try to find an alternative especially when you have ever adapting future sight. It would be one thing if eren couldn't see the future and resorted to desperate measures but it's another when eren can see the future, see how fucked up it is but on top of that see how convoluted the final events are that lead up to a final solution and still go with it because it's the only guarantee. Idk if this makes any sense. It's been awhile since I read the manga so all the details with my gripes over the ending aren't fresh in my head but yeah I didn't think the ending came off as well educated and I didn't think how eren handle future vision came off as well written either. Also the soldiers taking armin's word because he claimed if he could transform he would have was ridiculous. Realistically he would've just gotten shot on the spot. Imo there's two simpler endings that come to mind that would've been better. Either eren just straight up kills pretty much everyone and they're too late or they stop eren like they did but of course because they just feed into the stereotype as hard as they possibly could the rest of the world attacks paradise to slaughter the rest of them once and for all. Probably kill the eldians from Marley too after they just saw what they did. I like the latter because it shows an immense amount of sacrifice on the part of armin and the crew. It would've been frustrating and heart wrenching but also too realistic to have it any other way. In the end the eldians are wiped out but at least from armin's point of view the rest of the world gets to live.

@@isaaclevi1487 this is a response I gave someone else. "except it [attack Titan future sight] derails the plot. Grisha regrets giving Eren his titan powers as demonstrated by asking Zeke to stop Eren. His only motivation was that he didn't know what happened to Carla, but by the time Grisha gives the titan to Eren, he should already have known Carla died in the attack on Shinganshina. Therefore, his only motivation was gone. He should have realized Eren was planning something at that point and refused to give him the titan. The only reason he gave it to Eren was because the plot demanded it. Without Eren having the titan powers, we don't have a plot, but Eren should never have gotten the powers in the first place." This is the largest one I can find, but there are others, such as why Eren can't stop Eldians from transforming into titans, which would solve all of their problems. He can make them infertile, but he can't stop them from becoming titans? I don't buy that.

Humanity will always be at war with each other, and it's stated outright that Paradise sits over very valuable resources AND Marley's motivations for attacking Paradise was to obtain full control of the titan power, only motivated further by their hatred and propaganda. Eldia will never be at peace, the world at large will never be at peace. Looking at the conflict through this lens paints a different picture of the ending and even Eren's motives. I agree that future sight convoluted the plot and makes many things unclear, but we can still infer with what we know. Eren admits that his perception of events became difficult to distinguish between past, present, and future. He also outright says that he doesn't understand why he went along that path. He admits that he wasn't free, and he wasn't in control. He is just a kid for most of the show, he loses his family, and then he finds that himself and the only people he has to care for, his home, is stuck in a tragic existence that's influenced their lives and forced them to live through a never ending hell. He learns he has the power to possibly end this cycle, end the suffering that he and his friends and fellow Paradise people have endured for a hundred years. Eren without future sight would've likely went down this path. It only complicates his character further, but I have hopes that the anime will flesh out Ymir some more and make her plan more clear, including the true role of the Attack titan, Eren, and Mikasa in her plans. Hopefully. Sorry this was a rant lol there's some really good Eren character analysis videos on YT and I think they're worth a watch

@@bubs1233 except it derails the plot. Without Eren having the titan powers, we don't have a plot, but Eren should never have gotten the powers in the first place.

Biggest issue people agree on with the ending is pacing/breathing room - final season has about 8 episodes-worth of manga content left to adapt and previous 'parts' have been 12 episodes I believe. They have plenty of space to adapt things flawlessly. Adding to areas if needed (I think, as many do, it would really elevate the ending). On top of that the slightly smaller amount of content should give them more room to polish both the directing and animation! Hopefully the poor animators aren't as overworked too.

That was my thought. I don't really see too many manga or anime have such a divide in fanbase or create conversations like AOT. There are plenty of deep philosophical themes being explored in the narrative although sometimes you have to read passed the front and center story being told. I agree with Charlie that you can just sit and watch it and enjoy it but you can also dig deeper into the context and other narratives being told to find such a grand design of a story that really does cement AOT as one of the greats.

Say what you want about the ending but I think it speaks volumes of the quality of writing that people are actually arguing over justifying certain characters actions, beliefs and motives. And even using those to apply them to real world beliefs. The ended divided people so much and even the characters in this season have divided people into different stances. It just goes to show how well written the characters are when it actually pisses people off based on their beliefs and perspective. I genuinely like to apply armins philosophy to our own world and have done so before I even watched the show. Violence should always be a last resort, but sometimes we do let our emotions get the better of us as humans do. So I can very much relate to armin in that regard. Meanwhile you have other people saying big cock floch is right. This show is so complex and I can understand even the most heinous of actions in it because its so human. No matter if you loved, hated or are neutral on the ending, I think we can all agree we will never forget our first experience with this one of a kind anime/manga.

I can't get Hange's perspective from a few episodes ago out of my head, personally. Something like "Doing this will probably doom Paradis and everyone on it... but genocide on this scale is unthinkable. We simply can't allow it" There's no right option. Everything is fucked. Everyone is trying to do what they think is right and most of them aren't at all 'wrong'. Tragedy of the grandest scale and most extreme circumstances.

5:55 it's not the most thought-provoking, but it is thought-provoking enough. it really makes you think of decisions, and motivations while keeping us grounded in some aspects of reality like racism, xenophobia, the power of fear, the fear of the unknown, communication barriers, pride, extremism, and militarism. There are so many grounded themes that aren't being subverted but just beautifully mirror our own world and history with a twist on power and power struggles. Amidst that backdrop, the story that's told is one of characters, individuality, and personal choices which manage to become a greater focus of the story than the world that's built even though there are some existential issues, it's ultimately about people.
