Exactly, they KNOW the viewers want more, and seem confident in spreading character arcs over 2 films if necessary. I don't like when a 4-5 hour story needs to break itself apart into 2 separate 3 act structures because of standard movie lengths. I think the most frustrating thing is this 9 month waiting period to conclude the story. Once both movies can be watched back to back, you'll just have an uncompromised 5 hour film.

its funnier when you realize he didnt just give Gwen his dimension traver. He gave her one that he made himself. When he quit, he actually threw his dimension traveller away. He made his own "watch" with the parts that we see him steal here and there. It even funnier when you realize he asks Miles why he was even goina along with everything and miles says, "To get a watch" Hobie then says "Then make your own" He then proceeds to make his own and give it to Gwen for her to save him.

fun fact about Hobie’s animation: in the first movie, miles is animated in 2’s, which is a new position every 2 frames, and the other spiders are animated in 1’s, or a new position every 1 frame. this was used to represent him being inexperienced. in the second movie, this carries, and is also used to represent who sides with miles and who doesn’t. Hobie’s animation is interesting because he is animated in 3’s, or a new position every 3 frames, while also constantly changing color, which is a representation of his non conformist views. His jacket is usually animated in 3’s but offset a frame or so for added effect, his outline is usually in 2’s or 1’s, depending on his motion, and his guitar is animated in 4’s with its cutout outline changing but usually in 3’s.

When the first film came out I was still in uni, studying animation in my honours year. We spent the whole 4hr class just gushing about it. When I saw the second film, I nearly cried at how beautiful Gwen's world is. It's a moving painting. I saw people coming up with similar concepts in uni, but artists are so rarely given the opportunity to flex. Time, money constraints. Please support this film as much as you can, show the studios we want to see more of this!

Edit: Oh yeah, Gwen is the most pathetic Spiderman. Literally couldn't dodge a bullet to save her life. Fucking Batman could dodge a bullet from that distance! The real twist was the ending. There's only one previous movie (if you're talking about the Spider-Verse films). If you mean the Spider-Man films in general, then you will have a lot to catch up on, and films of varying quality. But I'd say it's a solid bet that if you cap them all off with the first Spider-Verse film and rewatch this one, you'll possibly agree that the Spider-Verse films are the best of all of them. In part for the simple fact of how they took something that could have been too complex and somehow made it all work.

In defense of the ending, while it did feel somewhat unresolved, both arcs with Gwen and Miles were completed. Gwen's arc was resolved when she made up with her father, and Miles' when he finally got the courage to tell his parents that he was Spider-man (granted it wasn't in his universe). So while the movie did leave on a cliffhanger with the final battle not taking place, the movie still is and feels complete because all major character arcs were resolved.

This trilogy is probably gonna be my favorite till time ends. I just love how the first movie has hints to the second and even third movie. I love how like you said, how dynamic the background color was and how it constantly changed to fit the mood and convey complex feelings. It allowed for us the audience to see the inner feelings of every character when they appear on screen and that's probably why animated films will always be my favorite. The amount of time and effort that was put into all of these movies can be seen. With animated films you really get to feel the life behind the art directors, their feelings and passion, burned into animation. It's unbelievable ❤

Not sure if anyone else felt this, but i loved how every time Miles would outwit or outshine another spider-person, it felt almost like another payoff from his immaturity in the first movie and how he's grown intellectually since then. A great example is when he's running from the spider society in O'Hara's dimension and we find out that he actually had a full plan, which contrasts greatly with how he ran - without thinking - from the Prowler in the first movie and led the villains to his friends.

We can see that Miles is one of the biggest brains and it's somewhat implied in the first movie where he faked getting a 0 purposely getting all the answers wrong in turn meaning he technically got 100% on the test (which is even shown in the first movie by his teacher\the person grading his test) and this is in an elite school mind you. 100% on a test from an elite school shoud put into perspective his level of intelect. The problem was, in the first movie, he was inexperienced, a lot was going on at once, he was panicked, he didn't even know how to control his powers initially, but once he did, once he got a grasp on it, we see his quick growth to the point where he outplays Peter B. (his mentor) before then going on to solo Kingpin. All that in just a week of life as Spider-Man. Flash forward to the beginning of the second movie where he's had 1 whole year as Spider-Man, we see how even while distracted by having to text his parents, keep conscious of the time and worry about being late, he's still able to take on Spot albeit rather clumsily. Those instances, he managed to hold on despite his handicaps, so then in a situation where he's experienced so much, learnt to calm down and can fully utilise his brain and body, it makes sense he'd be able to solo pretty much the entirety of Spider Society when he's got a plan while everyone else is blindly chasing him, planless.

Although I do agree that the cliffhanger is unsatisfactory and frustrating, I’d much rather prefer a story split into two parts than a movie that’s rushed and overly packed in with a never-ending stream of plot. I think the slow moving sequences of the film are crucial and play a critical factor in the progression of the film. I feel like if they were substituted in to make room for a fast-paced scene that throws information out then it takes away the appeal of love, anger, and sadness the characters hold for one another. It’s refreshing to see those drawn out, long yet sweet moments that really reflect on the character’s internal conflicts and nature, I’m beginning to become gratitude that it was split into two parts. But, even then, the second part will be out by next year, which beats five years, most definitely.

Yeah, I think majority of people agree with your sentiment but the ending itself could've been done in a way where it wouldn't have been disappointing. I think they should've ended the movie after the big reveal about Mile's home and rearranged the stuff with Gwen so her ending remains pretty much the same. Instead of continually building up to more plot developments at the end of the film those revisions would feel like a great climax to the movie that leaves people wanting to see the next one rather than wanting to see more out of this movie.

I found Gwen’s world to be the best part. I don’t know if was intended to be interpreted as I did, but I find her world to be a personification of her mood and depression in the beginning. The use of pastel, changing tones and shades as her conversations take different turns with her dad. Miguel is a favorite character definitely. The exaggeration of his new costume, his motivations, his desperation to hold everything no matter what the cost, and his personal vendetta against Miles is so damn good. Also, they had already announced that they wanted to make a two-parter. I imagine it was because of the fact that there’s only so much they could fit into one movie and make a successful story. The second part was actually supposed to be released for this year, with this movie having supposed to be released back in late 2020 or early 2021. I do get his sentiment, it really does end a bit abruptly, but the fact that time flew by so fast and didn’t have much drag is so damn good.

This movie was absolutely incredible. The masterful use of music to elevate a scene was something I thought was lost to time, but I stood corrected. The use of color as a visual and narrative device was great, it's not the most complicated aspect of filmmaking, but it is just so well done here. The Spot was good too, he was a goofball who's slowly descending into this multiversal threat and that was really interesting, he also gained a new level of mastery and handle over his powers so his fights were engaging to look at.

Just for anyone wondering, this movie took so long to come out because both this one and part 2 were in production at the same time. The scope was too large to just make one movie so they split it into 2 and the next part comes out less than a year from now sometime in march. I think if the biggest complaint about the movie is that they didn’t wait a year to release a 5 hour version… it’s a good movie.

I actually disagree, I really like the ending and here’s why: They clearly had a story to tell that is a great narrative with many moving parts. The writes and producers clearly realized it was too much for one film, and I appreciate that they just decided to make it two films instead of trying to compress it into one. I believe originally it was even titled part 1. In my opinion this doesn’t detract from the movie, instead it allowed the pacing to be great, and the emotional moments and character development to take its time. Nothing felt rushed or forced. I just hope that the beginning of the next movie hits the ground running with a fast act one and no gap in the action, so that as a complete experience they could be watched together for a full 5-6 act sequence. I think it’s totally fine to make a two parter, which this clearly is. The narrative is incomplete, but great so far and the movie is gorgeous. I just hope the next one doesn’t suffer as many delays-although I’m willing to wait for a quality product rather than have it rushed.
