I'm nearly 70 years old and this segment had me tearing up, I recently retired and was cleaning out my storage room and found a a nice cache of my cards some vintage all the way up the 2000s I recently jumped back into collecting, I was a team (1964-65 KC Chiefs/ 1960s Cardinals/Pirates/Steelers) set collector or series of my favorite players, been out of collecting and trading for awhile, I found upon my return the hobby is overrun with those strictly in for profit and and hype games. This video reminds me of the small shops of earlier times popping into the local Rexall drug store and buying hanger, Cello and Wax. I've found the design and photography of the modern cards be great some are works of art, I just like looking at the cards. I came back not knowing that the hobby has changed drastically and, I've join many different online groups but in most groups the conversations mainly surround money hardly nothing about the aesthetics of the cards or the players. if I've heard it once I heard it a thousand times. show me the money or "should I hold or sell it?. Bottom line if I had a shop like this near me I'd be there everyday so much that they'd probably would need a court order of protection. Headed to Ypsilanti anyone wanna ride shotgun 🚗

Literally walked in the door, looked to my left and spent an hour with vintage baseball! Owner is EXTREMELY knowledgable. Has binders of Tigers T-206 blazers. We were actual kids in the proverbial candy store. I'm a set builder-1953 Topps and up so I WILL be back as soon as possible!

This store owner has some great card knowledge. It’s good that the host is curious, but also pretty obvious the host is a “new school” card “investor” “flipper” type. When the masses wake up and realize how much money they are throwing away on the buzz or the “hits” and “bangers” they will most likely leave the hobby. Collectors are the only thing that will sustain this industry long term. Collectors that love the history. Not sports gamblers dropping thousands for a hit they can flip.

At 13:50 - how do we get back...? You promote the camaraderie of Trading. I'll give you an example: back in the late 70's, early 80's I used to trade regularly with Jerry Jarsma here in Parchment, Michigan. One session I traded him a '57 Mantle for a Kellogg's set. Some time later he found out the Kellogg's set was worth more so we traded back: no big deal. We both were BIG into Baseball Cards. He sold all his before the market dropped so he had a very good sense of timing to sell, or not to sell. 90% of my cards were stolen when I took them to Shipshewana, Indiana to trade with a BIG collector who had a booth there at that time.

you have to think about it this way the older people have the money... so right now the vintage stuff is worth a premium.... in 30 years what we are collecting now will be worth the premium and the current vintage stuff will have come down a little.... you see this in the vintage/collector cars....
@zachpierce6412 ай бұрын
I collect modern and vintage . Little bit of everything. One thing that’s interesting about vintage baseball. Most guys I talk to at card shows don’t even watch baseball anymore. I find that extremely common. The younger generation is really into sports cards , but they seem to just collect the stars . In my collection, I have random role players I like watching in the NBA. Mostly because I can pick up $5 autos and rookies , but when you ask somebody who their NBA team is they show you cards of the stars, they don’t even acknowledge the role players. When I follow a team I get to know a little bit about everybody. I think that’s a big difference between now and back then. To the modern collectors why would I want to collect a set when I don’t even know half the players.
