Thanks for the review, great stuff! Here's the official translation of the lyrics for you: A HANDFUL OF LIGHT EARTH deep into your arms I lay you dear children I will sing you one last lullaby and throw a handful of light earth upon you deep into your arms I lay you dear children I will sing you one last lullaby and throw a handful of light earth upon you go in peace go in peace I will throw a handful of light earth upon you light earth upon you got to get away from here into some better place to a place where the worm won’t gnaw where the cold won’t bite away from all of those who scoff far from those who put you down away from those who waste their lives far from those who know a truth go in peace away from here into a place where nobody owns anyone where no one knows of borders where power means nothing away from those who spoil the air far from disingenous talk away from the crowns of creation far from organs hanging loose deep into your arms I lay you dear children I will sing you one last lullaby and throw a handful of light earth upon you deep into your arms I lay you dear children I will sing you one last lullaby and throw a handful of light earth upon you go in peace go in peace I will throw a handful of light earth upon you light earth upon you

I think what makes Mokoma special is that when most thrash bands focus more on the guitars and the riffs, Mokoma is more vocal and lyric oriented.

if you had played me this without telling me where it was from, I would have guessed Finland. so much Finnish metal has that strong sense of melody and...almost folk aspect to its sound. even non folk metal...Finnish riffs have their own natural flavour to them.

Yea, some finnish metal bands (like Mokoma) have a certain kind of vibe and certain kind of melancholic melodies that used to be kind of common in the old finnish... kind of pop/easy listening music. It's nostalgic in a way.

Yes!! Thank you guys so much, you did exactly what I was hoping you'd do (encourage us hiphop listeners to listen to metal.) You said predicted what I like most about metal, the shifts from melodic to hardcore and back. It did sound like thrash, metallica type but then it turned into like bloodbath/mastodon crossover with some torture killer lol, I like it. sometimes it has to do with where the bands are from, as far as influence goes, but the good thing about metal is that no matter where they draw their inspirations from they still sound unique, like some guitarists are classically trained and thats why the solos can sound like slash (not all bands) You brought up another good point regarding lyrics. sometimes they mean something, sometimes you can't hear anything but the way I listen to metal is by just feeling the music, same as hiphop. Thank you guys for the video!

I'm a life long hip-hop fan (40yr old). I wasn't really into much rock until late 20's to early 30's. I love watching your reactions to rap and hip-hop, but I've also recently started branching out to more metal bands. I like listening to them while working out, so I'm definitely looking forward to hearing you guys break down and react to some metal too. Cuz i have clue what to listen for when it comes to these sub genre's of metal. Love your channels guys! Just start putting out more vids please if possible

Haha 2:36 the blonde haired one is not impressed. Never listened to much metal before, besides slipknot when i was in highschool. Maybe the genre will grow on me. Thanks for the content my friends. hopefully hiphop reactions will still be done, along with these intros to metal.

Mokoma are awesome! One of my favorite bands for sure. I would actually put them in a similar category as Lamb of God. The lyrics are really beautiful if you can understand Finnish.
@hiadrianbankhead6 жыл бұрын
from a hip hop subscriber - I really like this! Even more than some of the hip hop that you played! Although I'm of course as lost in thrash as you were in your rap reviews lol. Its great to mix music up.
@hiadrianbankhead6 жыл бұрын
Rap is all about its lyrical dexterity and its swagger, whereas doom metal is all about this aural wall of sound and technical mastery of instruments. Its just two completely different types of music that i would listen to for different reasons and while in different moods.

Wifey bought the album today. She was disappoint. Too pop maybe... We actually heard this song last year at a gig. It was the first time Mokoma performed it live. We're Mokoma fans since 2011 and go at their gigs at least 4 to 6 times a year. Seeing them in two weeks at South Park festival. They're performing between Accept and Helloween! ...in Mokoma songs the lyrics are almost more important than the song. Marko Annala noted as one of the great rock lyricists..

ricolync Damn! I will get it anyways. Cool to hear you are a fan too.

Wow, I'm surprised she didn't like it. I thought it was such a strong album. One of the best ones. Mokoma is a funny band in a lot of ways. They didn't start out too heavy, but got heavier over time, then started progressing more and more and experimenting. The sound they have achieved is in my opinion one of the most recognized Metal corner stones in Finnish metal.. The last album had such a variety of different elements that it might not appeal to someone looking for more of a.. Traditional approach. I really liked it, but it's of course not everyone's peace of pie. Sometimes it does take a few listens though to really get the songs broken down ;)
@h00lmberg6 жыл бұрын
It's so nice to see someone abroad to appreciate Mokoma. The fact that Marko only sings in Finnish is bittersweet. The music really works in Finnish, and he is such a wordsmith with our native language. I almost already consider him a living legend. His voice is so unique too. But the fact that you can't understand what he is saying is such a shame. But trust me, the lyrics he writes gives such layering and meaning to the songs. Fortunately the guys write such good music that the mere instrumentals are gold. I really recommend the latest album, such a nice ride. Thanks for the great videos guys, and I will hope fore some more Mokoma reactions ;)

I own Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper, Hate Crew Deathroll, the covers album, and Relentless Reckless Forever (I gave up after that one). Great band in the day, but none of their newer stuff has really motivated me to buy their albums. Am I missing anything essential since RRF?

My Hip Hop suggestions: Fight the Power by Public Enemy Set it off, Raw, It's Hard being the Kane, or The Wrath of Kane (Live at the Apollo) by Big Daddy Kane Follow the Leader, Let the Rhythm Hit 'em, or Microphone Fiend by Eric B and Rakim My Philosophy by Boogie Down Productions As a fan of Hip Hop, it's interesting to me that lyrics aren't important to metal-heads. Do you know sing along to your favourite songs or do you just sing along without thinking about what you are singing? As a side note: I think that most of the people here are requesting songs from the most popular era of Hip Hop. It would be nice to see something from the pre-'gangsta-rap' era when there was more fun to Hip Hop, but at the same time, a social consciousness. N.W.A. exploded the 'gangsta-rap' era with "Straight Outta Compton" and "F-ck the Police". Those would be good songs to react to but it would be nice to see some more stuff from the era when Hip Hop was untouched by commercialism. I love and appreciate that you guys went back and took a listen to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five!!!!!:) Another great video:)
