i ve been growing for over 35+ years. i started using molasses about 8 years ago. i am an organic farmer. i use about 5 tablespoons for 30 gallons of airated water. i use the organic dark molasses. i grow in soil. i have had the same soil mix for the past 25 years. i grow many clones, many strains. 8 years ago, i worked for an indoor grow in Sebastopol for two years. They were very heavy handed on their nutrients. They put raw sugar in the water. When they put too much sugar in the water, the plants locked up. i believe the soil does buffer the water from becoming saturated with sugar. the viscocity of the water changes when sugar is overly used. Its like people with diabetes, when your blood is loaded with sugar, the blood begins to clog. i have found light sugar adds taste. micro nutrients allow the plants to thrive in a environment where weeds thrive. i think less is more when it comes to sugar. i add sugar when i begin the flowering cycle. most of my strains finish in 8 weeks. i stop feeding them sugar in week 6. flush is not a practice in my garden. i like this video, a good presentation. its nice to live in a world where cannabis is proliferated with care and science. Cervantes is a good source. i grew up on ask ed! many good sources! burn green!

I use 1tbsp/gallon every water from start to finish. It lowers the ph of my water to 6.5-6.8 so not only does it work to feed my soil but doubles as a organic ph down and my plants love it.

Yes, I have been growing for 40 years. Always used molasses on my personal grows. Some of the corporations ive worked with used other fancy bloom builders. Every single one of them was mostly molasses. Some other plant sugars sometimes, yucca, etc. nothing works better than molasses tho. The Oldtimers in California taught me.

I started using molasses about a year after I started growing. It immediately made a massive difference in the overall health of my plants. They're green and full of life. I cut my nutrient schedule in half in veg because the plants get so full and bushy. Then I was able to step it back up to the full strength in flower when they were feeding heavily and got massive buds. I've found the soil doesn't dry out nearly as bad and it gets spongy instead of dusty and dry which helps it retain some moisture in the root ball. I use 1/2 a TBSP/Gal in veg and then 1 TBSP/Gal in flower and it's been top notch ever since. I go every other watering with nutes from Heavy 16 and only use molasses on the watering days that I'm not feeding nutes as I don't want it to mess with the PPM. They say the plant doesn't uptake sugars but the smoke has a sweeter taste in my opinion. Hard to compare though other than the first time I used it the strain I was using went from skunky to sweet and fruity. Might have just been the different levels up nutrient uptake. A little molasses and humic acid go a long way in cutting your nutrient costs... Happy growing!

Heavy16 A/B + Worm casting tea once a week during veg. Heavy16 A/B + Pinch of Epsom Salt + Molasses on flip, 2WKS, 4WKS, and 6WKS. In Flower every other day is a watering with Ph'd water. At 7.5 WKS nothing else added to water thru finish. Last 3 days before harvest is darkness. Results have been great with most strains. Ayauasca from Barney Farms hated any changes.

I've used Molasses for years now. Reading through the comments I will throw my 2 cents in. I love using Molasses in Flower. If I have an extra mix I feed it to my Veg plants. No harm no foul. I use it with my bloom booster between feedings after week 4 in flower. I use 1 Tablespoon per gallon. I take a pint jar add my molasses in that with an amount of water. Put on lid shake till dissolved no need to heat. In my experience I have had issues of Calcium and Magnesium problems when used in conjunction with Cal/Mag additive. Most UNSULPHERED molasses have those 2 elements in a sufficient amount. I've even used Molasses to correct Cal/Mag issues in Veg. Remember too not every Garden is the same so use what fit's yours. IMO Molasses is a great cheap booster in flower that helps the buds swell. I don't use Organic however I do read the label if I can't find my Favorite "Grandma's Original " Unsulphered Molasses with the yellow label. As Mr. Grow it said some companies will put anything in what we consume. ..peace...Hawk

Blackstrap molasses is 0.35N-0P-2.5K with 0.5 calcium, 0.125 magnesium and 0.025 iron. Its in there, just not overly significant. One calmag product I found is 2-0-0, 3.2calcium and 1.2 mag 0.1 iron. 20-25 ml molasses per gallon would replace CalMag fertilizers basically. 4-6x the dose.

..but then you can see that modern, not even "cutting edge" hydroponics without molasses easily blows away results using molasses. I wasn't even 20 years ago, people said molasses "goes into the roots", or "protects"... sure, molasses has some nutrients, but whenever you NAIL a grower on molasses and PROVE that "it doesn't do that", they just spin off into some new angle of "Bro-Gro science" without any real evidence. The microflora on the aerial parts of plants makes a much bigger difference in terms of the perceived "taste" or the produce than micrflora in the soil. Berry farmers know this as gospel.

@@Warren2490 mollasses is actualy useless to cannabis plants cannabis plants can not take it up due to their Caspian strip .also the sugar in it is not as useful to bacteria as bacteria like simple sugars in the form of (glucose)dextrose this is whats commonly used in bacterial plating and storage .also the cannabis plant its self creats its own sugars through photosynthesis which it them excretes back out its roots into the rhizophere which the bacteria much rather interact with, over added sugars its creats a symbiotic effect amd really shouldnt have to add sugar ever if your biome is in healthy order.bacillus subtilis is well known for coating the roots and inviting healthy bacteria that will convert the plants sugars into complexes for the other bacteria in the soil

I use natural unsulfured blackstrap molasses during the whole grow but during veg cycle i only give it to my plants a few times maybe every few weeks and then flower i normally do 1-2tablespoons every other watering seems to work great for me! i definitely notice the difference between using and not using molasses the buds just look a lot nicer and full out better definitely a cheap easy way for beginners to step up their grows!

Hi - enjoyed that video thanks for the upload - I'm in Ireland we don't get a lot of molasses here - I use Malt extract during flowering and basically the way you use Molasses - There's a mountain spring a few miles away and that's where I get my water (Tap water never) and warm it up to dissolve the Malt extract - I use that around once a week during flowering and with CO2 yields are excellent....! Rain water, two tablespoons per one liter. I use it when there is about thirty days left of flowering. Lots of composted horse manure with top dressing of straw chicken litter so the extra feeds the microbes in composted soil material. Drains well in soil here at high mountain desert plateau hideout NM. Using for twenty years and it's cheap!

Only thing that I've noticed. It's like the milk works it's way through some of the leaves. Leaves a dry residue. Small problem for the amount of frost. Worked very well for mendo breath & sour tangie

You can also pour your molasses in a small water bottle with a cap and a little water, screw cap on & shake until all molasses is dissolved then pour in your bucket, that's what I do to save time and stirring

Hi i have been growing for about 5 years now i started using molasses a little over a year ago i noticed better results when used mid flower around weeks 4 through 7 i usually use in between feedings with just plain ph dechlorinated water with cal/mag then next feeding ill use my nutrients with out molasses and i keep that up until its time to flush and i flush for about 2 weeks with plain dechlorinated water thats at the right ph. I've experienced better trichomes development and tastier, better smelling bud at end result. Later yall happy growing!

Totally agree with this and your methods with molasses, definitely more noticeable effects mid to late flower from day 21 onwards, I use it through flush also as it helps to reduce salts in the medium.

@@jonsmith2748 no, but I would try to wipe as much off as possible as you don’t want it on your leaves during the light cycle, liquids on leafs while light are on can burn the leaves and dry them out.... but, you can use molasses as a foliage spray mixed with water, ideally you would spray an hour before you cut your lights on. You don’t spray while lights are on, because you run the risk of burns your leafs.

I have been using molasses since the 1980’s after an old hippie dude told me the benefits of molasses during flowering. Since then i passed on this advise to every grower I met. I also been using alfalfa pellets since the 80’s as well after I seen the natives in New Mexico using alfalfa for their corn fields to improve soil and growth since they grow in desert like environment.

@@backbone93 it’s alfalfa. Just dried and compressed. alfalfa is naturally high in nitrogen. It also benefits soil microorganisms by helping them convert soil nutrients into soluble forms more available to plants. Moreover, alfalfa contains high amounts of the naturally occurring growth hormone, Triacontanol, which boosts the growth rates of plants. This is why alfalfa sprout tea is like steroids for plants.

Yes, I learned of this several years ago. The crude sugars blackstrap molasses provides feeds the microbial life present in the soil. Some years when I was making eorm castings tea, i would use blackstrap molasses to feed and create the active frothy bloom when aerating the tea.

Doin the same meself, with vege scraps +kelp + lemongrass + castings + racehorse crap + bird crap + my crap and my special butcherbird spew pellets, when I give my freerange songbirds a feed of mince , I wait until about 9am after they've had a good feed but when the mince is put out they fly over , stand around for 5 minutes, hang a crap, sing along with their favourites, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath , I play lots of everything but THEY PREFER those above all I kid yas not , then after our jam session, they kindly spew up a marble-sized piece of goodness in return for the meat, which is then added to my 20l bin of aerated organic elixir, that I call BBBoost, No I don't stutter, it's short for butch bird boost. I add basically anything organic and the wierder the better. Brew it for a month or until the pungent smell sweetens up from the mollasses just add it and your robert PLANTS and they'll be singing better than the butcherbirds. Love the shit

I used to use molasses with great success. I did switch to real growers recharge though. It has molasses in it amongst many other things such as microbes, humic acid, fulvic acid, and amino acids. It’s not necessarily cheap but a little goes a long way and contains a really good cocktail that covers many bases for healthy organic growing. Great topics. Thank you for the content.

Hey Chris, I use molasses and tea's but I am finding some interesting info as I do research. Have you looked into the living soil experts out in the organic gardening and agricultural sector? They are adding some interesting scientific peer reviewed studies on microbiology and plant health. Now that weed is legal they are professional allowed to associate with the canabis industry without risking their professional status. There seems to be a trend that is going towards simple extractions of microbes by washing them out of a good worm casting/ compost vs brewed teas with simple sugars as food.... Many benefits in the living soils that are being perpetually grown in. Not sure if it makes a difference in small pots that have not yet developed the higher order bacteria/ protozoa/ fungi of the life systems that are found in a more mature living soil. Have you considered getting a compound microscope to check your soil life? Love your video's. Keep them coming!

The only thing you didn't hit was how frequently should you use molasses. I use about 15ml per 4-5 gallons. Been incorporating it once a week with feedings. Should I be doing more than that? Or less? I know you said it won't burn the plant but I still don't want to oversaturate the soil with anything... Thanks! 👍

I stopped using in flower! Flowering period requires more Manganese than Iron! This is what I've heard from "Build-a-Soil". I was looking for some micronutrients and found a special version made for them by Dr Faust(?) of "Bio-Ag". This had more Manganese and less Iron than Bio-Ag's own version. I use Honey now, in flowering, along with Coconut water for Carbs/Sugars and it's high Potassium content (easiest/cheapest way is powdered Coconut water). I bought some Manganese Sulfate (very inexpensive, and very little needed), and put a tiny pinch in a gallon, here and there. I've used molasses for several years all through the growth/flowering period, and just brought a gallon of Organic Molasses, lol. It will last me awhile now! I still use Molasses through Veg, and the first 2 wks of flower. I use a "dime spot"(size at the bottom of a clear gallon container), so a few drops at most, but each watering. WARNING! USING TOO MUCH MOLASSES CAN CAUSE ROOT ROT! SO A SMALL AMOUNT FREQUENTLY, OR MORE, IF USED WEEKLY/MONTHLY! GREAT STUFF! INEXPENSIVE! BE CAREFUL THOUGH. AND PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LOOK AT "BUILD-A-SOIL" FLOWERING MICRONUTRIENTS, BY BIO-AG'S DR FAUST, AND THEY'RE FINDINGS WITH MORE MANGANESE THAN IRON. AT LEAST W/CANNA You may find out more info than me. I like to use a blender with my molasses water seems throughly mixed and aerated. Ive been trying and learning about living soil more this year and started feeding from seedling 🌱 it's been really nice so far. Granted the more and longer you test comparisons the better. I have found using a Pyrex or microwave safe cup to heat about a cup or 2 of water, then adding the tablespoon of molasses to the heated water helps break down the sugar easier. Then adding the Cole’s down mix to my gallon helps huge. No blender or furious mixing needed!

I use Myco Chum, which is a blend of molasses, fish hydrolysate, liquid kelp, humic acids and nutrients. I use every other watering but only as a ph down. The recommended dose of 5ml per gallon drops my water ph way too low. It usually takes about .5-1ml per gallon for me to go from a ph of 8 to 6.5. Combined with Recharge and Mammoth P, my plants seem to love it. ☮️

I use molasses in the soil for the last transplant, prepared before its transplanted and then in once a week from week 4 flowering. At the end of the week with enzymes and after one feeding. Finally I use double after the 48 hour darkness period and I harvest early morning after the leaves pop back up.

great video Chris, I usually add it in flowering weeks 3-5 a couple times no more then 3-5 feedings. I had a problem where the soil just held water and caused roots to not uptake the nutrients. Again i'm not sure if molasses was the cause, or not. Durning flushing phase i just do straight un-PH'ed water similar to what "grateful grower" suggests.

Hey! Hello from Canada. Love your show, I have recently started feeding with molasses at 1 tablespoon per 4 liters of water. I did note thanks to my son, the molasses changed the water ph by about. .2 to .3 in 4 liters of water. So we started adding it and any nutrients needed before ph down. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. But thanks to the new killer ph pen we can measure to .01 of ph. Thank you for sharing yourself with us and all the great people who come on too! Using organic unsulphered blackstrap molasses tomorrow for the first time. *Everything* organic for me (for both me and my plants). *A pH question:* What do you guys use to measure the pH? I tried strips from the pet store but don't trust the readings at all. Do you measure the water, the soil, or both in your grow? And what is recommended to bring the pH up or down? Grow is going well but I don't want to screw up the important pH necessary. *Thanks in advance* to anyone who takes the time!

(My Garden is organic but I'm certainly not;) Just use realgrowers recharge and don't worry about PH. :) Really as long as you're not using runoff from a sewer you'll be good in organic. When it comes time to check it tho here's what I do in organic 10 gallons but for the most part we can leave the PH/ppm to the coco and hydro guys. Measure runoff and fully mixed nutes and if you really wanted to adjust PH you can use PH up and Ph down solutions Perfect leaves zero burns or deficiency( a little light burn on one plant( 80% it's male haha) from a new LED but other than that a flawless set of runs) I use bottled spring water(Roxane) and have never worried about it(I checked it today wiith a amazon elcheapo ph meter and it was 6.8ph and 77ppm in the spring water bottle before adding anything), they say recharge will increase your PH reading at first but it would settle later but I've honestly not had any PH issues in organic. I'm just checking it for the transition to flower to make sure I don't toss out some crazy PH/ppm from the organic bloom nutes/silica/recharge/molasses/calmag combo they're about to get. I would be interested in a video about going away from 12/12 during flowering. I've seen outdoor plants of different strains flower very far apart. So I'm thinking some strains could go maybe 14 on 10 off and it could increase yield by possibly more than 15%. Maybe even going away from 24h cycles completely. I'm also interested in if there is any science on going down in light hours during the last part of the cycle. Like how nature does it.

i cant find recharge out here in Nevada, I heard its sold direct now? i used recharge wwhen i was growing in norco. i have alway grown in coco. and use great white and feed molasses about a week after i inoculate. and lightly when im flushing . seems to help. i wanna try Mills coco/ cork soil, has anyone used it? i hear it feeds for 90 days. im at day 20 of bloom and stripped them of all sucka leaves. should drop the humidity from 70% at night to 50%.and they starting to have the frosty sugar leave. keep growing ya'll

Last time i added my worm casting tea I noticed an instant yellowing of the fan leaves during flower. Then I heard a microbiolgist say that the microbes actually eat up the nutrients from the soil and store them until they die leaving them available for uptake. This can cause a small shortage in nutrients for the plants when the initial bacterial tea is added. This is a natural cycle and how the soil food web works and should quickly become available nutrients for the plant to uptake in the natural order of the system. Has anyone experienced something similar or contrary?

When flowering you want the plant to cannabilize itself of nitrogen resulting in yellowing and die off of fan leaves. This is both normal and desirable.
