Boatbuilders typically do not share decades of boatbuilding experience with "anybody" however the Buskens family is not holding back anything. This is such a valuable channel for the weekend warrior fixing up a boat, or building a console, or engine bracket, or a wannabe professional boat builder. We are learning all the professional techniques and materials to build professionally. It doesn't get any better than this. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to learn the right way to build and fix boats. Thank you Captain Joe, with great respect.... Joe

@@FishBumpTVBuilding, repairing, or modifying a boat, especially its hull, is serious business and must be done with the proper materials and procedures. I have seen so many poor choices of materials and substandard work done on KZbin videos that affect the ultimate safety of those that will be aboard the completed boat. It makes me cringe. This is “not” what we see on FishBumpTV, only professional processes on this channel. I hope that all wanting to tackle a repair or modification to their vessel will find your channel and learn the right methods and materials for their project to assure a safe build. We all should work to push this channel to the forefront of boat work sites on KZbin. It serves the best interest of all… Joe

@@melinda5777 I believe this is partly true. In my channel, I commonly peer into the analytics of videos and use the watched moments (where folks skip to and watch) to be very valuable and can tell me a lot about what my viewers want to see. Its amazing how you don't see the brush marks.🤣🤣 The 1st time i was painting my boat and i had help bc I didn't know how the Ablative Paint would work, he said you Roll and I'll Tip. I said, What?!! Well it all worked out fantastic! When you do it yourself instead of paying the boat yard to do it, you save thousands of dollars!!! Anyway, never did a hard top mold, so this is great!! What a great project! This is something I'd be interested in tackling so am curious to see how you attach the fiberglass top to the t-top or whatever you plan on building. I have a Robalo R200 with an aluminum t-top with a fairly nice canvas top that's laced into position, but a hard top would be so much nicer. I've watched most of the Buskens 2900 build episodes and it's awesome seeing how you build such a quality boat. I will say that my boat has lost a bit of its shine after seeing all that you've done, but it's all good. 🤣 Thanks so much for all your hard work and for sharing your extensive knowledge.

Another great video. You mentioned what else to build, I see on many boats very swish custom grill/bbq cabinets matched into the grp of the boat with lids and doors etc. But I haven’t seen anyone build one on KZbin. Perhaps there’s complications needing to mimic cabinetry with hinges etc , and also the heat considerations. Maybe you can put it on the list of ideas for a video any way .

Also, could you explain when peel ply would be needed or if you guys even use it….
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 9 күн бұрын
Peel ply is used to reduce or remove amine blush when working with epoxy resins. I prefer to work with 2 to 1 ratio epoxy which doesn't usually produce amine plush, or I just remove the blush with warm water. I know lots of people are interested in Peel ply, so I will try to make a video on the topic for you guys. Thanks for watching!

Hey Joe Thomas from Denmark again, i have a problem right now that a video could help. I would like you to show how to fix glasfiber where you only Can get to from one side. It would be Nice if it was from diffrent angels, mine is Hole in the buttom that has to be fixed from outside, and with the buttom Down. Then the floor Witch has to be made from the top, and it Maybe has to be a Big Hole like 3x3 feet, again only from one side and this time from top wich turns up. Best regards. Thomas Just loving your videos Long as short😉 Have a great day

Love these videos Capt. and as always great job my the camera man. When using laminating or tooling resin does cure hard enough to sand without gumming up the paper? I thought the purpose of laminating resin was to be able to add additional layers without the need to sand?
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 14 күн бұрын
Glad you are enjoying the videos and the camera work! You can sand laminating resin, but yes it will gum up your paper. Just wanted to show different resins in use and that many resins are compatible with one another. The dcpd ortho blend cures with very low tack, and could work good if you knew that you will be sanding it. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I bought it at our local fiberglass distributor. Their company name is Advanced Plastics. I would imagine most fiberglass distributors should have some. It is a 2 pound density, non structural, marine grade insulation type foam. It is pretty delicate when handling it, so that could be a reason why some suppliers might not be able to ship it. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Another great video! What type of foam board can we use when working with Polyester resin? Thanks in advance. I’m planning to build a hard top for my Cobalt ski boat wake tower. I plan to just build one of them so I’m planning to make it with foam core and coat top and bottom with fiberglass and resin. Any encouraging thoughts?

There are lots of different marine grade foam cores out there that could possibly work. One good foam core I have used in the past is Divinicell, I also use a lot of coosa board. I will be buying the foam core very soon for my hardtop build, so I will try to discuss foam core selection in that video. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

He's using a poly or PVC based foam that is compatible with poly resin. If you were to use EPS or XPS foam with poly resin the foam would melt. For those foams you would have to use Epoxy resin.

Once again, another great video. About the poly over epoxy issue, for stressed structural repairs, I always use epoxy. Then scrub with soap and water and scotchbrite, then sand and scrub again. Then, it's my experience that gelcoat is OK over this. In any case, epoxy sticks better than polyester with a mechanical bond, for example repairing an old hull (which is all that I can ever afford). Plus, I'm waiting on your skiff build...
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 14 күн бұрын
Thanks for your thoughts, and support of the channel! Vinyl Ester is another option for folks that want a very good bond and compatability with gelcoat. The skiff build idea has gotten a lot of interest, so we will see!

Just shaved before going out to work on the boat, This is something I have not heard in any videos, is that a respirator does not work with a stubble or a beard something you might want to add!!
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 9 күн бұрын
I think some respirators work better than others under different conditions. A full beard could be a issue, but the newer 3m respirators seem to work well with a stubble. Obviously if you can smell fumes, you might want to change your mask, or grooming. Thanks for watching and commenting
