Because our ancient ancestors went long periods of time little to no food and our bodies, like many mammals, adapted to it. It is only recently in history that the average human would eat 3 meals of day (carbs/sugar) a day everyday of the year. Our bodies haven't adapted to the very frequent and high daily intake of carbs.

@Tanvir Mecha Usually Autophagy time is begun after 14 hours fasting but it is powerful when you are fasting up to 36 hours, before go to next level if you are used to fasting then you can increase the hours if beginner may begin starting from 14 hrs 16 hrs 18 hrs then challenge yourself to next level Most people just do intermittent fasting because they don't want to bother about nutrients but if you go along with good & clean eating for sure lots of benefits you can achieve My suggestion, just slow down and after you enjoy it and ur body is adapted then you can feel by yourself and automatically you will behave on your food, cheers and good luck

Muslims fast for almost 30 days during the Month of Ramadan where they abstain from consuming any form of food or drink including water for a period that varies between 12 -17 hours depending on the location. The Holy Qura’an tells about fasting: “But to fast is best for you, if you only knew” Surah 2: verse 184. Moreover, it was reported that the prophet of Islam peace be upon him said: “If you fast, you get well”.
