@@josephwanjiku6853Nope, that is not how it works. First you need to get fat adapted with little to none carbs, and you loose mainly water the first week or so, with 16/8 autophagy is not really a big factor, 1MAD gives you more of the benefits. And once youbhave lost some weight, your metabolism is somewhat changing, so longer fasting periods keep you going. Also, the occasional carb spike like a Thai Curry with rice or a pasta dish and organic Greek yoghurt with blueberry and a tablespoon of honey keeps your body busy and ‚trains‘ metabolic flexibility. The thing is, you go about it the way you feel. Do your first fast when you feel like it, as long as you feel comfortable doing it. But the point is: your weighting not gradually going down in a certain amount of days/months. You also need to look into an exercise regiment fitting your individual body. Daily walks work wonders, and an App like 7MWC where you’re following 7 high intensity exercises for 45 seconds or so. The intensity is yours to choose. And you can do all of the exercising in your bedroom/living room - no equipment needed. Have fun with it!

After discovering intermittent fasting… I’ve lost 24 pounds in six weeks… I’ve noticed positive changes in my skin, eyes, hair, and even my gums… I was already eating a healthy diet. However, I was grazing all day long and even waking up and eating a sandwich at 3 AM… I cut three things from my diet beer, pasta, and bread… I eat 3/4 fruits and vegetables 1/4 lean meat… First meal at 11 AM second meal at 5 PM some healthy snacks in between if I want… I feel 10 years younger… I even noticed I can breathe deeper and I sleep better… Not only is this free medicine… But my grocery bill dropped in half☝️😃

I'm on day 14 of a 21 day fast & will refeed with a poached egg & very slowly & csrefully go back to a Keto diet & IF. This is to reduce inflamation which, I hope will reduce the chronic pain from stage 4 OsteoArthritis bi lateral of the hips before I have bilateral hip replacement. It's now about 50% reduced, hopefully soon I'll be exersizing & strengthening muscles. No hunger. Taking Omega 3, vit. " C" Vit.D3 & K2. There should be a balance between breaking things down and building things up. That principle is applicable in biology and can be generalized to nearly everything in this world. Going too far to one extreme or another is the root of nearly all forms of dysfunction and unhappiness. Thank you Dr. Fung for being the foremost voice in emphasizing the need for such balance in our dietary habits way BEFORE it became the popular thing for diet gurus to advocate.

Dr. Fung, I was having a terrible time with intermittent fasting. Every time I skip breakfast by lunch time my stomach hurts. This happened repeatedly. I figured that I just couldn't skip a meal. It doesn't work for me. Then, I discovered what the problem was. It wasn't the fasting that made my stomach hurt, it was the coffee. Even though I was skipping breakfast, I was still having a cup of coffee with heavy cream and butter. That helped me be full until lunch. But then my stomach would really hurt. I quit the coffee, now, no problem. I have no problem drinking water. Have you ever heard about coffee being an irritant when fasting?
@Ishmokin8 ай бұрын
the cream and butter removes you from the fast, is how I understand it.

I want to read your next book on cancer and it's relation to lack of autophagy due to our excess eating. I also want to read your next book about why we overeat? Do we seek the pleasure of food because our current urban lives are not as rewarding or engaging as is working on our farm, caring for our animals, tilling our soils? Would we eat less if our jobs were not part of our brainwashing that work is rewarding emotionally when work can never love us back? If there was more sense of community and dedication to love and community-communication about connected things that are emotionally important, would we not seek food as our main reward system? We go to work after eating breakfast. We get coffee with a donut when we get to work. Someone makes a delicious cake we all share in over our lunch break - extended break. We eat lunch to avoid the growling stomach and drop off of stimulants including sugar in the afternoon. We grab a protein bar, a piece of hard candy or even go outside for a nicotine stimulant. On the way home we grab a couple of beers-wine-shot of whiskey. We get home and have an argument with our spouse and go grab a few more drinks. We then eat some cheese and crackers to help with our upset gastrointestinal feelings. We might be lucky and have some meat and potatoes for supper. We might have a few chips with our nightcap. We then fall asleep contented in our fullness. We get up over and over in the night to urinate as our bodies want to dump the sugar carbs of the day. Sounds like food is our only reward. Are we eating too much because our lives are so empty of other satisfactions?

Dr. Jason is a superstar for reviving the ancient practice of fasting for healing and rejuvenation. Being fat adapted - that is Mr body is accustomed to burning fat for fuel- makes fasting doable for me. I had to ditch the carbs to do so. I keep them under 20 grams a day.

I've watched dozens of videos and read lots of websites that talk about autophagy, but this had a great balance of talking about the details of different kinds of autophagy without going into too much technical details about things that a layperson struggles to understand. It would be great if you could follow this video up with a *technique* video -- i.e. HOW to fast to achieve different kinds of autophagy for different goals. Looking forward to the next video.

I love the way you broke that down. I'm 52 years old, 5 foot 1 and need to lose about 80 pounds. I started intermittent fasting about a month ago for weight loss. I haven't lost any weight yet but my fingernails are back to being hard and sturdy after constantly chipping and breaking for the last 4 years and my energy level has gone up. I was a junk food junky for years and thought i would feel like I was dieing from starvation doing the 16:8 fasting but that didn"t happen.

I fasted for about 90 hours last week, and have since been fasting 20 hours a day. Autophogy is completely healing my entire body and brain. I plan to do another 48-72 hour fast this upcoming week. Keto+intermittent fasting allows maximum autophagy, which I’ve been doing as well. The keto allows your body to absorb nutrients and electrolytes more effectively rather than just breaking them down, following by autophagy which rejuvenates old/damaged cells. Thank you!

Jason... I don't know if you read these comments, but your videos have helped me a lot, and allowed me to lose a bunch of weight and get off insulin. I did have a significant medical issue this last week, that was related to my super low carb diet. I was going a bit crazy with sodium, adding salt to my eggs, and eating a lot of sausage. Also, a few spoons a day of salted natural peanut butter and cottage cheese, both of which are high sodium foods. It seems that all of this sodium made my BP spike and caused weird headaches.... Now that I've cut back the salt, and unfortunately started taking 40mg Lisinopril qd, things are getting under control... hopefully I can d/c or at least reduce the Lisinopril soon. Just a heads up to people who are going low carb... watch the sodium!
