@@arminius3808 it is actually a cycle, if someone is abused and they don't confront what happened to them, if they don't try to heal from it, they repress the pain and the shame and there's a high probability they will repeat the behaviors that were done to them. When someone is abused, ESPECIALLY at such a young age, that creates trauma and the brain gets stuck at that age. Children don't know to ask for help, to tell someone that something has happened, just like Larry said. Sexual abuse isn't about sex, it's about control. Often times when a child is abused, they'll grow up seeking to retain control and the most common thing that will happen? They'll reinact what happened to them so that they're in control this time.

Hey mate, I just wanted to say I was bullied pretty badly too when I was in school and it doesn't last forever. Find something to do you can be proud of and do what you like to do and everything will fall into place. It will get better. Larry you rule bro! I was molested by several men when I was young. A member of the "Big Brother" program, an English teacher, someone in the neighborhood. I was scared to tell anyone. These pedophile predators have a knack for detecting kids who have problems at home; and they prey on them with the perseverance of a wolf. It's so sad. These people need to be put away. I feel for you man. This stuff is traumatizing. I had a best friend who was about 5 years older than me, and I was in middle school. We were pretty close, and he took advantage of me and now that I look back on it, I realize that shit is messed up. It takes so long to register when you've been abused, especially if you're a kid.

Fortunately Pope Francis put a stop to the Catholic secrecy rule that protected a lot of these monsters. The same thing went on in our church and there was nothing you could do about it. What I've learned at my high school reunions about priests and the pain they have caused is absolutely shocking.

I was raised in an Irish Catholic family of twelve siblings. We attended parochial schools and were active members of St. John's RCC. This was in the 1960's and 70's. In 2018 it was discovered that the Diocese of Buffalo had kept secret files of abusive clergy for decades. The Buffalo Evening News and plaintiffs attorneys published these allegations. The files were stolen from the chancellor's office by an employee, S. O'Connor. The numerous abuse survivors now had proof to sue the various Church entities. Bishop Richard Malone was forced to resign and the diocese declared bankruptcy. This is the reason why parishioners have stopped attending Mass and/or financially supporting the church's ministries.

I was an altar boy for 6 years. Luckily, the priests I was around were very nice and did not do anything bad. Sorry for what you had to go through. I can not imagine what it must have been like. I am no longer a catholic, or I guess nothing really. I have studied the bible and other religious books extensively. I have found most religions do not follow their holy books. That is why I do not practice any religion.
