It's crazy, only doing a few days or a week in jail and then getting to a prison yard for the first time is nothing like you'd expect. Jail sucks, prison (depending where you are) is infinitely better. There's a lot to do, you can be outside, work out have a job. As long as you treat people with respect, stay in your lane and handle yourself like a man you'll be ok. Unless you have a fucked up charge or are an informant.

You know that that is though? That is pure frustration. People will behave and act normal when they are not being tortured, like inmates are by the guards. In prison people are indeed cool and respectful for the most part, its when a guards fucks with you on purpose to set you off and you cant do shit about it. I had some guards try to set me off, but they will never win. They never knew I was in the Marine Corp. Try to mess with my head all you want, your not going to touch a DI. Guard tells me to jump, I will jump how ever high he wants, most other inmates will say fuck you to the C.O. , grats on the more time you just got and the spot light you put in yourself. People who killed another person, ya it is true most of those people are good people like anyone else.. Think about being put into a situation that would set you over the edge..someone hurts your wife or kids.. youll go insane and probably severely hurt someone.

Never done any hard time or at any high level facilities but I’ve been locked up in county jails.. I can remember pretty much almost anything that happened while in lockup. I think it has to do with you are more aware of what’s going on. Wouldn’t say high alert but for myself I never felt like I was on auto pilot or jus dragging myself through the day. I Myself was constantly thinking or planning the small things I’d have or could do that day or ever the next few days but I always had my mind focus on something. Think that has something to do with it. Plus you have such few things to do an entertain yourself that everything is interesting in a way

It's funny because you come across a guy like this, and at first, maybe you feel sorry for his situation, or you think maybe he has a point about prison reform, but then two or three stories in, you realize, no, you ABSOLUTELY belonged there; you're a good person only insofar as all your animalistic needs are met and all of your pride remains untrespassed. It seems like for every bad thing you can say about prison, you got to do 10 other things, or got away with 10 other things that you ABSOLUTELY shouldn't have been allowed to do, and did you stop yourself from doing any of it through your own power of will? NO.

I'm kinda the same. Usually I'm really calm and it's hard to make mad, but if this happens, it's like preasure building inside you, you try to keep it under control and at some point you explode, you can't control yourself, you hitting stuff, breaking stuff, just like he described. It's not like I never get angry normally though, I do, but normally I'm more calm than others. I also capable of some sort of planned violet outburst like him beating a guy, you just keep your anger iside untill you able to release it, almost never had to do that though, luckily I never was inside such environment as prison.

Wishing Larry the best of luck finding true success in his new life. I was a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles, and saw this typical sad convict story, very much a scorpion/frog story. Cons can't seem to help their nature to break the rules just cause. The con has it really good, then they invent ways of f*cking their good situation up. They are smart and actually KNOW that if they play by the rules the system can't hurt them. Nevertheless, they are always looking for little ways of fighting the system that does no harm to the system, doesn't benefit them very much and only creates self-destructive situations. On the outside, when they commit crimes and being sought by the police, they are often caught due to an expired safety sticker, or speeding, or reckless driving or public urination or some other dumb minor offense. Sad, but that is what typically separates career criminals from normal citizens, they actively seek out ways to NOT play by the rules. Also, most convicts seem to be civilized human beings 99% of the time. But they seem to always be on a hair trigger to go on Berserker mode, and that 1% of the time when they release their pent-up rage ends up badly for themselves and the person(s) that triggered them. The most "successful" criminals are the ones that have no axe to grind against the "system", who ALWAYS play by the rules (current sticker, pay taxes, respectful to everyone and police, etc.), except when they break the law to score a $100,000 or $1,000,000 pay day. Then they go back to being basically invisible citizens (no drug use, no showing off bling, not hanging around career criminals, no partying at the strip club and bragging about their score, etc.). You rarely hear about these guys/girls, because they don't get caught. There is a KZbin video about FBI agents saying they rarely catch these "smart" criminals, and the FBI is a very sophisticated outfit.

I've been thru the BOP, but never made it to a USP, only medium and low, and between those two security levels, I'll take medium EVERY. SINGLE. TIME....that might sound crazy but there is a hell of lot less respect in the lows...ppl get comfortable, complacent ... Mediums are where it's at.

I went to a Great Jail which was Jones Farm in Trenton N.J! Volley Ball, BasketBall, weight room! Stinky inmates smelling like cow shit in B-Dorm which was the only thing that sucked! O.D.R chicken, crab cakes! Not bad at all! Minimum Prison! 🥵
