Why doesn't the robot do the food prep? I've been following this for years now, ever since it was featured in Popular Science, and the promise was that the robot would go from start to finish, prep to cleaning, fully autonomously. They said you could select what you wanted in an app on your phone, and the food would be ready for you when you got home. Please address this concern, and provide a time-lapse type video showing it make a bunch of diferent dishes. Thank you.

I absolutely love the concept, just a couple of personal feedbacks from what I saw in this video: 1. I would not want to do the chopping myself, if I have invested thousands of dollars into a next generation robotic kitchen. I cook myself and I feel like preparing the ingredient takes up a majority of my overall meal prep. I hope that the robotic kitchen can process ingredients from step 1 which is washing. Also, I feel like there are some basic techniques in cooking that takes time for people to master, which could be a constraint to home cooking. A robotic kitchen should be able to close that gap2. If we are only looking to replicate the final dish, why don't we break away from traditional cooking method and make it more industrial? For example, we don't really need to use a traditional pot and stir with a spoon. Instead, we can use a more efficient container and stir it by rolling it etc. I see a lot of potential to make the cooking process a lot more efficient. 3. It seems that it will take a lot of work to clean the robots and the station. Also, from a pure environmental engineering perspective, there will be a lot of electricity used in the process, which can be costly and environmentally unfriendly. These are just some of my first impressions.

Dear Yifan, currently, Moley cannot cut products because any robotic engagement with blades requires additional certification for security reasons. We are working on it. We also plan to launch a delivery service that will provide our clients with ready-to-cook products in a needed form and quantity. Product sets will contain the main ingredients for recipes from our library. Speaking about other tech advancement - first, it was our conscious decision to make all the processes accessible both to robot and human, second, we will soon announce a contest for tech development ideas, and you will be able to contribute with you expertise.

While I would love to see an automated kitchen and hope Moley succeed, I think it's fairly clear that this is still in its very early stages. They have taken on a massive challenge trying to replicate a human process for cooking that's difficult to overstate. This video would ideally focus much more on the robotics rather than the salesperson who if anything is rather diversionary, I strongly suspect because there are still a lot of issues to iron out. I do hope they get there though.

I think this as a demonstration is absolutely amazing, And to come up with the Design, Construction, programming of the entire kitchen must have taken a long time. I love people here saying its "Stupid", Well as it is the first time I have seen this kind of advanced kitchen robot. But I'm also thinking there could be a little business adventure in it for me. I would create a Company that Supplied the machine with all the Fresh ingredients, Peeled and sliced according to the "Specs/wishes" of the customer. Could do a Official partnership with @Moley Robotics to also help maintain/clean the Kitchen robots in order to extend the kitchens operating life. See that is a brilliant Idea. :)

so how long did this take to cook? cos it looks reaaaaally slow. I was half expecting that the oil will burn by the time Moley puts the oil container down. Also the stirring doesn't really imitates the human hand or technique... I'm pretty sure that a lot of that paella was stuck on the bottom of the pan. And I think preparing all the ingredients by yourself and putting them in the right place and then having to wash all those different containers... is actually taking a lot more time than it saves. Still a really long way to go for this to be any useful. And for that price I can probably hire a certified chef that can shop the ingredients, wash them, chop them, cook me meals and then wash the dishes too. It is good for the sake of technology, for research and progress. Eventually it's gonna be able to do the washing, the chopping and cooking by itself... but I am really put off by the claims that it actually saves time in the kitchen, that it mimics human movements... because it doesn't.

Some people here do not know the value of this advanced technology. What it brings the most to the table is the ability to cook for you the meal which you do not need to pay 5-star chefs or you do not need to spend time to learn those skills. All things you need to do is go to the supermarket buy the ingredients and find out the way to prepare them for the machine. If you cannot even do it, I do not even know what can you do :))))). For me, I can see its massive value since I do not fear having quarrels with my future wife. Life without her is still the same with robots, I do not mind. That's great technology. One thing for the Moley, fine-tune everything aspect you can, and your products will be more appreciated. When I'm rich, I will be your customers for sure.

What's the point of a robotic kitchen if one still needs to chop, and worse, measure, the input ingredients themselves? Those, and washing dishes, are the hard part of cooking that makes me want to look for automated solutions in the first place! Though, to be fair, the other part of that reason I was looking at robotic solutions was that I was not sure how it could be designed to do those things reliably and, since I had heard of robotic kitchens, was wondering if anyone had cracked how to do that yet. So, I guess it is not surprising that the first system that came up was not able to solve this main hard engineering problem yet. Even without a robotic arm, making most of my food, stuff poured into a pot and boiled, would be pretty simple. It would just need to pour water, turn on the stove, and release ingredients at the right time, which would not require complex automation technology at all. The hard part isn't that, but making sure those ingredients are ready, and cleaning at the end. How will the ingredients be retrieved from the refrigerator? Once they are retrieved, how will they be washed and aligned such that the robotic system can easily cut them? How will they be cut? And most importantly, how will all the cooking gear be cleaned? A blender would be a great solution to dicing onions for me, except for, well, what it saves in time slicing, it makes worse in terms of actually getting all the onions out and cleaning the blender. A solution to automatic washing of cooking gear as well as for washing dishes that do not need to be pre-washed manually, and automatically shifting items between everything, would be positively revolutionary. Someday... maybe someday I will find (or make myself) some solution to the hard problem, of preparing the ingredients for cooking and for automatically washing and sorting everything at the end.

sorting out, un-package, put in place, cutting ingredients is the real missing part of this, while it takes forever and is a messy part of the job. The operator's job should be limited to only deliver ingredients and robot should be able to prepare them. Wash, cut, peel off etc and clean up after itself. You should be able to go from shop and just put in the kitchen a bag of stuff and robot would take it out, unpack, put into locations and clean up. With todays ML & computer vision advances i expect to see all of the within next years. Also those hands should hide themselves better when are not in use. Maybe it's cool for showing off but it's not cool for a clean design to have some industrial robotics hanging at home. There could be a cabinet on the left side where robot would hide while not in use. Also sides where safety screen is mounted should have better material coverage, seems like unfinished detail of a premium product. Hopefully it's fixed when doors are mounted. Also that cover should be with glass panel, so people could see what happens inside. Of course automatically cleaned glass, as all surfaces inside.

Oh, and do this for 2-3 recipes at a time for a complete meal (salad, main dish, side, etc.), correctly timing each item to finish hot or cold for serving at the same time. THEN I'll think about buying one.

So you do the chore, like chopping, and the robot do the creative part, which is the cooking. Even if I had the money I would not be interested. I guess plenty of wealthy folks will love it though.

It looks great but not ready for mass production and current market.

Why make it anthropomorphic? It's just a massive layer of difficulty added minus like a thousand layers of functionality?

When engineers are lazy and have no ability to think different, this is the result. A machine that is designed by the idea that humans are the ultimate

Bcoz of covid n food poisoning. It must be a standard to have robotic chefs for better hygiene. N to improve living standards. I have a very sensitive stomach that I cannot eat from others cooked food unless strict hygiene is done. Otherwise I get very sick n food poisoning.

Loved the concept and implementation, looks great, even not as expensive as i was thinking. But please, make a recipe correctly. Paella is all about the type of pan and the technique (I don't care too much about ingredients, as there are a lot of types) but it has to be a low pan (if not the exact one, at least similar, so a frying pan is the closest) and grains shouln't be clumped Not to take credit from the nice engineering and intention, but come on :) just call it a rice with something.

Certainly, these will be as overpriced as cars to encourage money lending at nasty interest rates. There will definitely be a specific tax to go along with sales tax. Surely there will be a subscription fee. Highly likely for there to be an insurance policy encouraged or demanded. Ordering produce will go through corporate entities who mass produce gmo's at little cost, guaranteeing stable profit margins. What an awesome gig! If I knew about this a few years ago I would have invested. I will look into this now...

So it's useless. I understand refilling things like ingredients but it can't even cut the onion? Doesn't put the utensils in the dish washer, it's slower than I am. Really?
