@madmax8949 haha that is cool, I would like that. I only made a couple of rock concerts, Molly Hatchet at the Hampton Coliseum in about in 82 or 83 maybe and then zz top at the same place in maybe 93 and then Marshall Tucker once but man life for me then was a happier time and I think that is why I stay on KZbin a lot when not at work listening to the music from that time and it takes me back there for a while!

Every time I hear this song I wonder how come this didn't wind up my generation's signature southern rock anthem instead of Freebird. Lyrically, thematically, melodically, it's a much more in-depth, intense song. :)

+mrz80 THIS. No disrespect to Skynyrd but MH were simply far more talented. IMO "Tuesday's Gone" and "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe " were LS's best songs. They were better at soul than they were rock. MH is just on another level in terms of talent. Much like Rush and everyone else. To answer your question, I think because this song conjures real emotions of sadness, while "Freebird" is, like, all about that freedom, man.

I enlisted friday the 13th day of January 1984. Their was a firefight that morning at Beirut international airport. This song goes right to my hearth. Molly Hatchet, my all time favorite band, thanks for so much great music. Semper Fi. To all my brothers who got murdered in Beirut on that day. Army, Navy and Marines.
