Molly Tuttle is a national treasure! Besides her indisputable and recognized guitar mastery, this song showcases her incredible vocal talents. From her whispery, featherlike tones, to her brassy belting with its hard-edged resonance, to sustaining perfectly rounded vowels, the lady conveys both innocence and believability -- she makes it feel like she's telling you something about herself with the lyric, the emotion, the intensity. What a talent!

This interpretation of this great song is perfection. Molly Tuttle's "The Old Apple Tree" album version is very good, but this pared-down take is special. It's a shame it is only available as a low fidelity youtube video. Sorry for being an ingrate, but this performance is to die for. Maybe Under the Apple Tree Sessions will offer a download collection someday. edit: Molly does have a newer version of Cold Rain and Snow downloadable at bandcamp. Vocal and tempo are similar to this version. I still think this particular solo performance blows away every other cover I've heard.

This is a stunning version of this song! Can anyone tell me about the chords she's playing here? The main shape is the G, but what is the next one? It looks like 033010, but at one point it looks like she uses 033011 (with the capo being the nut). Does this chord have a name, or is it a partial? if so, a partial of what? There's a lot of variation in the chords used in the many covers of this song, but I think I like this one the best.
@Hillbilly_and_bike2 жыл бұрын
you need to put your thumb on the 1st fret (6 string). Both are f chord 133210 and 133000. This song only has 2 chords, g and f. In treble also use 3xx035 (G9) chord, and 1xx013 F(9) chord)

Anyone know who is the originator of this song? ...or is it one of those old Americana folk songs passed down generations to which no one knows where it came from?

It's a Bluegrass song from Kentucky and was written some time at the end of the 19th century. So there you have it, American folk song.
