-I took guitar lessons from her father, Jack Tuttle, at E.T.S.U. in the 90's. He played bluegrass for the Rounder Records label. He was a real cool guy, and he had a very strong passion for music.

Which he passed on; Molly and Sully are both professional musicians; not sure about the younger brother Michael, but he was not a bad mandolin player at 10. kzbin.info/www/bejne/borXeamBitqAeaM&ab_channel=TaterPatch

I played this very same guitar at Gryphon Strings a few months back, and for me it was hands down the best sounding guitar in the shop that day. Amazing rich sound...and this girl plays the hell out of it.

Pretty sure MtnLiner meant that “this girl” was funny because it doesn’t give Molly the name recognition she deserves. It’s like calling Roy Clark “this guy”. Even if Nashville doesn’t put her in her rightful place, history will be VERY kind to Molly Tuttle. She’s one of the greats regardless of gender. Her claw should be studied

That sounds better than any Martin I’ve ever heard. That’s a gem right there and in Molly’s hands it just sings.. she dropped that E to D and when she hits that gitFiddle it sings beautifully...

This is one of great prewar Gibsons, as it stands out so strong and balanced with such note clarity across the spectrum. Some of the prewar D-45's are as exceptional, but have a different richness to them. For example check out this 39 D-45 put through its paces by a gentleman named Duke Levine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opW2nXaOi66sY6s Gibsons are almost piano sounding, where as the old Martins have a distinctive warm sweetness to them. Tough call to pick one as the King of Hill. Martin and Gibsons have produced some of the finest sounding instruments on the planet.

similar to a tuning I use on my dobro. D C G C G and a low C. Sm to lg. It's a tuning my friend Ferrell Stowe developed for his song Stobro's Blues! He calls it the "Stobro" tuning! :-)
@howardemerson4575 жыл бұрын
A very late reply, I know, but I just saw this wonderful video of Molly. This tuning has been very common among a lot of Celtic players who call it open C, despite the 1st string being not being major 3rd, but a 2nd, or is it a 9th? In any case......I have no doubt that Ferrel Stowe lucked into it on his own. We've all done that, but of course nobody has done it as much as Joni Mitchell!

Spokane Man The song was originally a fiddle tune from the Civil War. It didn't have a name at all for many years, but it is known today as Bonaparte's Retreat. Molly Tuttle definitely does it justice.
@oldtimetinfoilhatwearer Жыл бұрын
@@charlesmcgowen7238 it's not from the civil war- it was written by Irish receivers of the unfortunate news that Napoleon had retreated and lost to the English, who the Irish hated😁

Is that a dreadnought or is Molly just handling it like a boss? No but seriously, is that a full size DN? I don't know if Molly is just petite or petite and taller in person. I've never met her and the guitar seems smaller than a dreadnought on this video. Or am I just not seeing it right. I'm looking at smaller guitars and if this is smaller it will be encouraging. Lol. I've always had dreadnoughts but can't handle the size anymore.
