A lot of you may know that my channel started from my love for Metallica. I first discovered Metallica in October 2023 starting with Master Of Puppets. Over the year, Metallica have definitely become one of my favourite bands of all time and the reason why I know love Heavy Metal so much. Through the journey there have been a few songs from the Black Album that I had came across. Wherever I May Roam being my absolute favourite from the album. I'll never understand why Metallica's black album is hated on. I honestly think this album shows the true talent of the band and having perfect studio production is the cherry on top. I haven't heard much else from Metallica after the Black Album so I am looking forward to hearing how much they would have progressed after that.
Here is my reaction to hearing Metallica's Black Album for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m not a fan of most of the lyrics, but I agree the production is absolutely mint. While I’m not thrilled with most of the songs (How is “Enter Sandman” written by the same geezers what wrote “The Thing That Should Not Be”? ), the good songs are GREAT. “The Unforgiven”, “Wherever I May Roam”, and “The God That Failed” are utterly brilliant. I think the subtle touches of unconventional instrumentation in “The Unforgiven” and “Roam” are some of the most brilliant touches on any album of the 90s.

According to Hetfield, The Struggle Within was written during the band's last day in studio. He admitted that the “struggle within” was the trouble he had coming up with lyrics for the track. He also admitted that, looking back, the song also represented the anger that he was feeling at the time. That’s what let out James loud scream near the end of the song. It is also the shortest song on the album.

"Don't Tread on Me" hits deep in my American heart. Everything from the name of the song, which is from the Gadsden flag from the Revolutionary war, to the imagery of the rattlesnake, which has been the symbol of the USA since it's inception, to the intro guitar lead ("America" from West Side Story) to the allusions to Patrick Henry (Liberty or Death), Francis Scott Key (What we so proudly hail), and especially Benjamin Franklin (Never begins it, never surrenders / Shining with brightness, always with surveillance) says 'Don't fuck with America'. Song gets me hyped every time.

I'm an 80s hair band girl, but saw Metallica 3 times, first time was in May 1986 at the Iowa Jam. This was only my 2nd rock concert, 1st of Van Halen 2 nights before. I had no idea who Metallica was..lol but the crowd was going nuts. It wasn't until Enter Sandman that I started to like them. I am a huge music lover, it all depends on my mood and what moves me(gets me in my feels). I would love if you would listen to Shinedown, so many great songs but Sound of Madness or Dead Don't Die, but they have so many amazing songs. They do a lot for suicide prevention, which I love! Their music helped me through a very dark time, after my husband's K9 was killed in the line of duty and my husband could have been killed that night. So hope you put them on your list! BTW, you are the same age as my 2nd son and I thoroughly enjoy your channel!

@VainRain69 I've been a MetallicA fan since 1987. I was 9 yrs old when I first heard anything from the band. My brother had Garage Days revisited the $5.98 EP. I listened to that covers album one day after I got out of school on a Friday. I binged on MetallicA for the next 39 yrs listening to everything they produced ,everyone they collaborated with, every cover song, every special appearance, every acoustic version, every late night show appearance from Jules Holland, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Fallon. It surprises me that the guys haven't done SNL. What I love about these dudes is their diversity as musicians, Hetfield's abilities as a writer and a singer, and Lars Ulrich's drumming abilities, Kirk's whammy, all with a history with the greatest bass player in metal history, the most energetic bass player in metal history, and their longest running member at bass. Yes, I agree they've got a few songs that just doesn't hit that funny bone like KeA, RtL, MoP, ...AJFA, The Black Album were able to do. Yes, St Anger sounds like shit! But I believe they knew it would and knew it would debut at #1. I will say this though. There are some killer riffs on that album, and the live version of a couple of those songs, and an acoustic version of another? Redeemed it on a small scale lol. LuLu was something they wanted to do, and people talked shit! James Hetfield wanted to be a table and a view, So fucking what!? Lol. DM, HtSD, and 72s are all awesome albums. And that's why they're the greatest BAND ever imo!

I've gotta correct something I said bout the band MetallicA and their appearances on late night Tellervision. I mentioned that I'm surprised that MetallicA hasn't done SNL. Well, they have done SNL. It's good to see reactors doing the whole albums now - more and more are reacting to full albums not just one song - back in the day - when I was a teenager throughout the 80s - we went to the music store to buy the new releases - we brought to our friends who were all waiting - we put the cassette tape or CD in the ghetto blaster and turned it up to 10 - we sat there and listened to the new album over and over again - that's how you are supposed to experience music

I grew up in the south of the U.S...... I started wearing all black and listening to metal after discovering this album. People thought my friends and I worshiped the devil for listening to this. It was nonsense and we laughed it off. I really enjoyed revisiting this part of my youth. Thank you Declan.

Fun Facts: from Google, the Snake from the Gadsden flag, a symbol with origins in the American Revolution, which often is associated with Individual rights and opposition to tyrannical government. The Gadsden flag also features the motto "Don't Tread On Me" which is the name of the Black Albums sixth track. Peace 😍✌️ Gary 😃 Great Reaction👍

Oh this will be a good one. This is the album that got me into metal in the Summer before 8th grade (that's 13/14 yrs old here). It's what got me playing guitar (along with Nuno's insane sh*t from the band Extreme), and it helped me plot what I wanted for my future even further in a sense with "Wherever I May Roam." There's an RV in the driveway right now I mean to fix up so I can finally live that song, and half an hour ago I unpacked and put the Gibson Acoustic I learned these songs on back on a stand in the studio. 1968 J-50 for anyone who GAF, it was in the attic when I got to earth. We always come in with the tools we need to fulfill our purpose.

I listened to the black album in the 90s when it first came out in my dorm room, now 30 35 years later still going strong. For me this is metallica everything after no where near same quality. It was an album that took this heaviness, with classical elements and darkness and put it all together perfectly

Inamorata, for me, seems like a sequel to Orion in a way. Not to mention, it is probably the most perfect way to end a bands discography, period. I love listening to whole albums / whole discographies when I listen to music. Inamorata just seems like the perfect book end for me. It feels complete to end off on that song. Trying to continue to listen to anything else from any of their albums directly after Inamorata just feels off to me.

@Blackened30 12 күн бұрын
@@MonkeyKing3333 They started hating when Fade to Black came out and wasn't a million miles an hour. Then they hated because Battery had an acoustic intro and wasn't "Metal enough." Then it was because they made a music video for One. Then it was because the Black album was too commercial. Then it was because they cut their hair. Long story short, any time you deviate from what you were in the beginning some fuck decides you've transgressed. Hell, even Slayer got crap for "changing" and they're the least changeable band to ever exist.

@@Blackened30 Like maybe some hasbeen douche from the 80's sure, but the more commercial nature of black boosted them if anything. The anticipation for load was epic and when it came out people were like wtf. Personally I liked load and hope mollyboy does some like mama said. Not many reacts to that album which is a loss imo.

You show an honest and unbiased interest in this and with the journey you're on... "Bruv"... you have a long, long, trek to hike! And I'll be there watching... and wanting so, so much to go back to those days when I blasted this into my foamed earphones from my Sony sports yellow walkman on my way home from school after missing the bus - again. Truth be told, I missed the bus a lot just to sneak in a smoke or two. Keep at it, my man! you have so much to get through!
