Plus Gane fought afraid. -is actively ducking and snubbing the interem champion so he can instead hold the entire division hostage to fight an old, inactive Stipe who hasn't won a fight in 4 years and is mentally-checked out of the sport. -Refuses to relinquish the belt despite a catastrophic injury that will take a year to repair, again opting to hold the division and deny the rightful champion his chance to prove himself. -Will declare that he's the HW GOAT because he beat an out-of-prime Stipe (who got beheaded by Ngannou in his last fight).

I was lucky enough to catch Tom's first fight in the UFC. His first knockout. I was actually at my mother's house during that first fight and she freaked out... I was also there for his second fight and i told her she needed to watch this guy, and he did it again. There has never been a fighter that I want to see succeed more.

In the UK, for some strange reason, we call adrenaline "butterflies" .. so, we give it a negative connotation as if it is fear. Tom saying "fear" imho is the same as him saying "butterflies" or adrenaline. THAT'S really what it is, ADRENALINE! And if you don't feel that before ANY sporting event then you will not perform to your best. So, you can interchange Tom's use of the word "fear" with "adrenaline," and people will understand this better imo. Great video, as always.

Aspinall is fantastic, Gane was a relatively easy win for Jones. Aspinall is relatively underrated still in some fans eyes but not here, moves like a welterweight. Class all round fighter with respect. A young man with a grown mans attitude.

Maybe not that he doesn’t deserve one, it’s more that he has no chance being mid fourties’ and haven’t fought in 3 or 4 years. Think about it if Ngannou was still champ and they were going to fight for a third time. At his age, regardless of how great he is, another knockout like he took from Ngannou last time might kill him. I don’t think Jones is as dangerous an opponent as Ngannou would be for Stipe, but I think the outcome is just as certain. There are more talented, more deserving fighters to go the next shot at the belt.

We will probably never see another fighter have their entire career handed to them on silver platter like Jones. Popped for PEDs multiple times, arrested multiple times, domestic abuse "scandals", hit and runs,avoided fighting younger upcoming guys for most of his career, stalled lhw and now hw,eye pokes, gets pass for throwing the same elbow when a ref told him to stop(legalize 12-6 elbows, also stop throwing them when the ref tells you to tho), threatened a drug tester, and only ever stripped 3 times and came back every time to immediate title fights, never had to fight his way back up, just placed right at the top like nothing happened.

Aspinall is way more experienced at the top level. people weighed an obvious favorite against an unknown and chose to overestimate the unknown because it's exciting. if Pavlovich had won his path would be a meteoric rise similar to Pereira, that excitement blinded people. but he still has a bright future in HW if he becomes more defensively sound.

I have a feeling Jones won't fight Tom. Jon is chasing Stipe because Stipe is the guy to get the best of Jon's biggest rival, DC. Jon is chasing the legacy that DC left behind, so the fight with Stipe seems personal for Jones. Both of them sound like they are going to retire afterwards. This means Tom is basically already the champion because the other two plan on riding off in the sunset. To save the perception of his title and have it mean something, he's going to need to fight Alex Pereira and beat him, and then he needs to do an immediate rematch with Blaydes, who has a similar skill set and as well rounded as Tom, while also being close in age. If Alex beats Tom, the divisions title perception and legitimacy problem fixes itself right away. He just fixed LHW by defeating it's pretender champions, I wouldn't be shocked if he leaves it in the same state it was in before he got there but it would save HW. lol

I think things are pretty clear. Jones has one, maybe two, paydays left. He ran from LHW after Reyes got robbed and it was clear that guys like Reyes and Santos were catching up (and LHW has only gotten better since then). Dana wants to maximize those paydays, while Jones wants to retire undefeated. So if he goes out there and dominates Miocic, he has beaten "the best HW" (other than Fedor and Cain) and can retire as "the GOAT". If it is close or he loses then they can drag out a rematch. For White, Aspinall can sit with the interim belt as the unofficial champ until Jones retires. Hopefully that doesn't take another 2 years.

To be fair to light heavyweight, while the injuries undoubtedly take away from the prestige, i feel a lot of people point to the high turnover rate of the belt as to why the division hasn't been good since Jones left, however the high turnover rate in the era ended by Jones v. Shogun was what lead to the excitement of the division at that time, and some of the turnover was due to incredible performances (jan to get the belt, glover to take it, jiri to take it, hill to get it, Pereira to get it, etc.)
