Colby Covington (born February 22, 1988) is an American mixed martial artist. He is a former Interim UFC Welterweight Champion. As of December 14, 2019, he is he is #2 in the UFC welterweight rankings.
Jorge Masvidal (born November 12, 1984) is an American mixed martial artist competing in the UFC's welterweight division. A professional since 2003, he has also competed for Bellator, Strikeforce, Shark Fights, and World Victory Road. He holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, at 5 seconds. As of July 8, 2019, he is #3 in the UFC welterweight rankings.
American Top Team (ATT) is one of the primary teams in mixed martial arts. The gym was founded by Dan Lambert. ATT's main academy is in Coconut Creek, Florida, and there are affiliated academies throughout the United States. ATT features professional fighters who have competed in many major promotions, such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), PRIDE Fighting Championships, DREAM, K-1, Strikeforce, and Bellator.

I kind of dont buy the story that he was almost cut and therefore forced to become a character. There's alot of fighters who are as generic as Colby would be if he acted like himself, yet those guys are still fighting for the UFC. I'll use Usman as an example. Zero personality, excitement, charisma, no controversy (controversy sells), no NOTHING except that he's a good fighter, as Colby is also. If anything, I think Colby just wanted attention, good or bad, didn't matter, and well he got it.

I dont like that, unlike Conor and Chael, Colby felt the need to bring politics into his character. Very cheap, lazy method for a "heel". I dont hate the guy, but I am worried about his return after the damage done to his jaw Yeah its "badass" he kept fighting with a broken jaw for 2 rounds, but that most likely will have a permanent impact on him.

Colby puts on a persona because he's in a business that rewards the biggest draws which is usually the loudest or most controversial, not necessarily the most deserving. He tried it the correct way, probably his natural way and saw that doesn't work.

Great video. It’s interesting that Colby is overly sensitive but people think he’s emotionless. The way he talks about Masvidal and their friendship is emotional. I'm so glad you incorporated the "Tales From the Grind" clip in. I watched that after Colby's loss to Usman. It made me sad because they were such good, normal run of the mill friends. Two guys from different backgrounds having a real good run of the mill bromance but also united by their desire to manifest their deepest dreams. Sad to see that bond lost. OH! Also-I remember a long time back hearing about Dennis Rodman's personality shift. Even in the NBA he wasn't always "The Worm" I wonder if looking at that story might help explain Colby's better. When it really comes down to it-I sincerely believe this: Colby has shown he's a great fighter, but he's hidden his sweet nature-you can see it in those older videos and even some more recent ones. In the hand's of PR people more capable than I-that could be an incredible contrast to promote and market Colby's personal brand.

I doesn't matter that its real for Poirier... Masvidal and Colby has been friends for years. Just 1.5 years ago Colby named Masvidal his best friend several times. They always said they were willing to fight each other, but only for the title. The last 1.5 years they realized they were on a collision course at the top of the division and decided to make the best of it. They had to fight each other anyway, so why not make a hell of a lot money at while doing it? They are clever and well spoken. Its so easy for them to tell a few lies to the MMA media, and they are gonna make a lot of money because of gullible MMA fans.
