Tonight Tom and I are going on our monthly date night. Even away from home there's a bit of parenting to do! We run into some Pokemon Go fans who see Tom's phone in its holder showing the Pokemon app, see our friends' new baby and discover we've lost a carton of ice cream. No, we never found it! (Tom is using the Pokemon Go Plus device that allows you to push a button without looking at the phone so he can get the Pokestops while we're sitting at the stop light.)

I can feel Tom's hurt pain and sorrow. It has been 3 years for me and I had a crying spell today. I just could not imagine being Behind with nine Children. Seems like so much more heartache cuz he has to watch his little ones grow up with out there beautiful Mommy. My heart and prayers are with them all I never stopped thinking of Tom and the children.💔💙

TOM AND ANDREA! Tillamook cheese is here in Oregon! The peanut butter ice cream has huge amounts of peanut butter. Giant chunks of HARD peanut butter. It is legit. You should totally get it. Next vacation idea- Oregon coast, Tillamook cheese factory tour! You can eat all the cheese samples you guys can pack in, and then get ice cream.. And buy random goodies in the shop. Cheese curds, special types of cheese you can't get in the grocery, bits and pieces.. And the coast is gorgeous in the summer, even on a gloomy day there is an appeal! :)

That pretty much sums up our date nights - dinner at the same few places and then we usually end up at home depot or menards. Sometimes we will stop to get snacks to bring home or go to a coffee shop for a dessert coffee to prolong the time out. I have five kids, 3 boys, a girl, and a boy. They are 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 and I can't imagine my older boys being able to hold down the fort. You give me hope, lol. :) Thanks for taking us along! Oh - and the car of teen boys was hilarious!

We've recently gone through a rough patch and called off our engagement- but are still together... we're trying really hard for our sons sake. _Everyone_ goes through rough patches, even Tom and I. Our early years had many bumpy periods. We still have our moments where we are so _not_ on the same page. They do become much fewer and further between than they used to. My biggest piece of advice to anyone, good times or bad, is to accept that you cannot control another person; you can only control yourself. All you can do is love and do your best and put the results in God's hands. I'm praying for you all...

we once forgot\lost a red bell pepper in the back of our car, we couldn't find it no matter what. We thought we forgot it at the store but then it started smelling so bad and we found it at the bottom of a pile of reusable grocery bags. The smell stayed for months. :s I hope you find the ice cream quickly!

That does make it really tough! We've had times when we didn't have anyone to watch the kids so we'd just make a special dinner at home and use the "fancy" dishes or eat dinner on the porch or something that was different than the usual after the kids were in bed. Just doing regular things in a different way and calling it a date still feels nice.

Sorry if this has already been asked but are there time frames for date nights? Budget? Do the children always wait up? Do the baby sitters just stay with them or do stuff? Sorry for the questions. We have 8 aged 11 and younger and home school so we only get out together about 1 time every 6 months. We need a better plan (both grandparents work full time and some can't babysit the children). All of our friends have between 3 and 5 children each so not sure WHO and HOW we can get it done.

My first thought is that you should do an exchange with one of your friends. They bring their kids over to your house once a month and you bring your kids over to their house once a month. Our kids love it when our friends come because they play games and have fun together. We don't pay them and they don't pay us. (To be fair, their boys don't need babysitting anymore; they're both teenagers now. They also have foster kids from time to time.) Maybe a schedule like 2nd Tuesday of the month is your date night and 4th Tuesday is theirs or something like that. If our friends stay with the kids, my friend gets them to bed at their regular bed time. The last 2 months they haven't been able to stay so the older boys have watched the younger kids. We've tried to get home a little earlier. The kids are pretty capable, though, and can get the little ones to bed. My friend still comes and checks on everyone if we need her to. On this date night I knew we wouldn't be out that late (we were home before bedtime.) Eden is supposed to go to bed an hour earlier than the big boys because of being on a lower privilege level, but I figured she'd feel sad going to bed when everyone was having fun and we weren't home so we told her she could stay up. It turns out we were home before bed anyway. We don't have a particular budget for date nights; it just comes out of our general spending category. It usually costs in the neighborhood of $40 for dinner and more if we do any shopping or go to the movie. Of course, if money was tight we could do fast food or pack a picnic. We're usually gone for 2-4 hours depending on what we do.

How far away did you have to go to get to the town for dinner? Is that in the town where the Wal-Mart is? Just curious. I am from a very rural area in Kentucky.

It's 26 miles from our town to that one and, yes, it's the same place as Walmart. It's the "big city" as far as my kids are concerned. :)

The only thing in it was a Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree and some restaurants, no chain stores like Hobby Lobby, Office Depot or anything. I recently moved to Greenville, SC and I never thought I would say this, but I miss my small town life. I'm not very materialistic or much of a consumerist and this all seems a bit much for me. Wal-Mart was all I needed after all. Lol. I really enjoy watching your videos! Keep up the good work! You have an amazing family and you are truly teaching them what is important in life!

Our friends are foster parents and they've had some younger kids that need to get to bed early so lately our older boys have taken care of the little ones and our friends just stop in and check on the them. If we're going to be out very late my friend will come over after she gets her little ones to bed and stay until we get home.

Yes, tonight the older boys were in charge. Our friends have had some younger foster children recently that have needed extra care so they just check on the kids for us rather than stay the whole time. The kids miss having them come play, though, so hopefully we'll be back to normal soon.
