Exactly. When you’re in the industry, you have to have tough skin because they’ll give you the truth whether you’re ready to hear it or not. That’s what you submit yourself to the moment you decide to go professional. Plus, in the industry, criticism doesn’t have an age limit no matter how it comes across. From a performer’s perspective, I didn’t feel that Howie was rude in the clip. He was just giving his honest opinion and it sounded like constructive criticism to me. The problem is we’ve become too soft as a society where we’re afraid to hurt other’s feelings and where everybody’s given an award just for participating, which in turn, gives off the message that we’re good at something even if we would need to improve. There’s no pass or shortcut for hard work in the real world and we need to come back to that principle.

Agreed 100%. If these kids end up in Vegas they will face worse scrutiny than Howie Mandel. He wasnt wrong for his honesty...maybe his word choices were bad and he definitely could have said the same thing by finding the right words...But if they end up in an even bigger spotlight during their careers, they need to learn that criticism is very real in show business. If their mom also feels attacked because she is, in a way, living vicariously through her children, she will wind up becoming a miserable and angry parent when/if they do become famous beyond AGT.
@KevBuckets3 жыл бұрын
@@EmoryBlake4Music he's only doing them a favor when he criticizes
@EmoryBlake4Music3 жыл бұрын
@@KevBuckets You're exactly right. That's pretty much what I said. He wasnt wrong for criticizing and I have nothing against it, but wording changes everything. I know this because I'm a school teacher. As I already said, if they get into the professional dancing circuit and under the microscope of the mass media, they (and their brother) most likely WILL end up hearing more comments similar to Howie's. Their mom needs to understand that what Howie said is like a bee sting compared to the bullets fired when it comes to what could be said by hateful people on social media. But this show is not all about preparing talented people for the negative aspects of a life in show business where the judges give negative reviews as if they were art critics. It's to encourage contestants to keep moving forward throughout the season and to get better as they advance throughout the season. He definitely could have chosen better words. Bad reviews coming from art critics is something they might have to deal with later as they rise to fame. But comments like Howie's is enough to make someone feel so discouraged that they give up continuing to try. So, their mom could very well just be angry at the way Howie said what he said, but not at what he said. I also find it very interesting that Howie asked if they knew someone that was on the show before. I dont recall if that's something usually asked by the judges. But it seems odd to me that he would just happen to ask that, have it confirmed true, then the angry mother is ready backstage to go give Howie a piece of her mind. I'm definitely not 100% on this...nowhere close (and if I'm wrong please feel free to just let me know) but it seems like this may have been one of those times when a performance is partially or even fully scripted in the hopes for better ratings.

I couldn’t agree more. Shows evolve now more than ever because of what people desire. Sob stories win. That’s what tugs at the heartstrings. It used to be more realistic in the beginning because that’s how the world is; cut throat. Feelings didn’t matter, making money mattered. Then they realized that these sob stories brought up the ratings. I feel they are selling the sob stories more than they are the talent. The judges attitudes also evolved. I don’t know them and assume like most “reality shows” they are playing a part, a character. With the addition of other competitive shows their character evolved. We as a society has also evolved. We want to see these sob stories, these vendetta’s, and these wrongs righted. We’re rooting for the underdog! I am not implying any of this is right or wrong but only my observations.

@@allenchua823 why are you even comparing those acts? This act was not at all "worse", as you say, than the one performed by their mother and elder brother. You can say that the one performed 6 years ago was 'better' if you want to compare. They were so young and still performed really well. I mean, can you do this even at your age? You maybe a teen, an adult or a senior citizen but you're not their age and you probably can't do what they did on stage. And I bet after a few more years of practice they'll get to their mom and brother. What I meant in my previous reply was that Howie had to apologize. Because that act by their mother and brother was spectacular and he said no just because that boy was "playing with his hair too much". I definitely don't dislike Howie but I'm just saying that he had to apologize for that and I'm glad he did.

Imagine someone tell you a joke.. You find it funny and you laugh.. Then that teller thought it is so funny and tell you again and again.. And soon you will find it annoying...
