They're on a show for TALENT, not good music (unless of course the song writing is a part of the talent that you are demonstrating, which even in that case sometimes you can still see their talent in singing and not just song writing). She clearly has talent, and that is what this show is about, not individual taste in music. This was a clear case of letting your bias cloud your judgment and nothing else. I personally am not a huge fan of the song choice or musical theater but I cannot deny that she has talent and deserves to go through.

@@BlackHayateTheThird He was a bastard in his older stuff for sure, and he still can be. The difference is that he tends to at least be in the ballpark with his insults. He might be blunt and cruel to people he thinks did badly, but he is generally right that they did bad. It reminds me of the difference between Gordon and Joe in the US masterchef. Gordon has his quirks and can be extremely abrasive, but the combination of his charisma and the consistency of his criticism makes him tolerable even when he is roasting someone. Joe on the other hand oozes sleaze and dishonesty, and his criticisms are often bizarre and inconsistent. So he is almost intolerable. Same kind of thing here. Simon commands respect with his opinions, even when they are harsh. Howie comes across as a buffoon.

I think Simon used to play up being a dick back in the day more before these types of shows were so established because as much as people like watching talented Acts they equally liked if not more the acts that were terrible and would get ripped apart or when some awful singer was delusional and would fight back against the judges it was a big part of the show but now it's more about the talent than anything else and even back in the day Simon used to say all the time that he was very knowledgeable about pop music and knew everything about what a pop singer should be but was not as knowledgeable when it came to the other genres but either way people know when they hear Talent like this and saying no is just

I hate when the judges say that they dont like the act just because it's not their personal preference. Theirs lots of things in the world that are amazing but may not be your personal preference and that doesn't mean that it's not worthy of being good. @@bigjun913 you’re completely right. but his job isn’t to give his personal preferences. what the lady wants to do is musical theater. howie should listen to her voice and tell her if he thinks she has a shot. like you don’t say “oh this genre sucks, nope.” that’s completely immature. for howie or any of the judges you need to set aside your personal preferences and be professional. howie isn’t the only one who did this. simon too. simon sometimes gets picky about what other people are wearing. and that’s completely out of line. it’s their style. it’s their preference. if the contestants had to choose music and sing songs from the judges favorite genre the show would be so bland. this show (should) consist of different music genres because the contestants have different taste. like simon said in this video, they know where they want to go. you shouldn’t diss them because you don’t like the genre. you have to be professional about it.

Howie's behavior tonight raises a serious question about his ability to judge contestants. To not vote for an incredibly talented young woman because he does not care for the genre of music she performs, is not only ludicrous but was so rude, immature and just inexcusable. It goes against the premise of the show to advance talented people with promise to continue their journey in the competition. His taste in music is irrelevant and has absolutely nothing to do with the talent of the contestant in this instance. As a judge, he should have known better.
